  1. At this point I don't think even the devs themselves want this. This feels like someone above them who's not actually familiar with how this game works just gave them a series of mandates for them on the basis of "this game is 10 years old now, we need to 'modernize' it". That's the only way I can imagine so many unpopular changes on this scale that run contrary to the previous direction changes have gone.
  2. This is the most backwards thing I've seen a game developer do. Why would anyone new be attracted to a game that arbitrarily limits the content they're allowed to play at a given time?
  3. This is such a contradictory update. On one hand it's supposed to simplify things to appeal to new/casual players, but on the other the UI has been reworked in such a confusing way that even veteran players can't figure it out? What was wrong with the basic character window again? The gearing, outfit system, light/dark bar, and etc were all easy to understand and easily viewable in one place. Now I have to navigate between bulky tabs to do anything. And the best part is the gear icons are all so tiny now which makes the wasted space on the character window even more confusing.
  4. You both met each other as Padawans and you're roughly the same age. Kira acts more like the Knight's partner and equal than a student, and she has a lot of life experience outside the Order. It's fine from an ethical perspective, but the Jedi in this time period forbid unions between Jedi who were not both raised their whole lives in the Order and Kira began training as an adult. The relationship that is more dubious is between the Consular and Nadia because she is definitely your student, younger than you, and she has little life experience in the greater galaxy beyond what you're showing her so you got a lot of influence on her development.
  5. So recently I finally got my player ship geared enough to try to heroic space missions available from my bridge, because I finally want to get my reputation up and unlock the "Hyperspace legend" title. It took a lot of effort but I finally was able to beat some of these missions. Problem is, I've done 3 now and neither the trophies or reputation are showing up anywhere. It will say I claimed them when I look back over chat, but nothing shows up anywhere. I check my reputation counter and not a single point has been added. I check my inventory and the trophies, "lost crates", are not in there either. In the last match though I saw "target invalid" in red letters come up the second I claimed them before the loading screen came up to take me back to my ship's bridge. I'm guessing that has something to do with it? That somehow the reputation is consumed while still in space which then doesn't register on the character? Either way, either I'm missing something or there's an actual bug preventing me from getting what I supposedly earned.
  6. Yeah they were sort of put in a bind, this wasn't entirely their choice. Because this bug was originally discovered during the holiday season when the majority of Bioware staff were on vacations it became too widespread for them to easily deal with, so they decided to accept this as a feature instead. I think the reason they didn't just change it back to its original state was that a certain amount of people made a lot of cartel coins at the time ( trust me A LOT ), and if they were gonna forgive the people who first took advantage of that then they'd have to make it open to everyone so they could have the same chance at making similar amounts otherwise it'd be unfair. ---------------------------------------- I think if I may go off what you said, while it is clear that most people who click the links aren't new players, I should point out that thanks to this a lot of people on the forums have their links in signatures, and I know from my account's log of referral link clicks that new players and returning looking through the forums for the first time do actually click on the links, with some subscribing later and some not. This has basically made referral links so common and widespread that more legit new players are now using them than they ever did before this happened. Albeit not in the original intended "personal friends" way, but still in a way that might be encouraging to a new player who is going through the forums curious about investing time and effort into this. So in terms of that while you are right in that the original purpose of referral links has been undercut, the tide has raised all ships.
  7. I wouldn't consider this pay to win at all. You basically pay for the chance ( since the prices people will pay for your cartel items aren't guaranteed ) to skip grinding credits the old fashioned way. Even then I know from experience how long it can take to potentially offload a bunch of cartel items on the gtn. If someone can literally get the exact same gear without paying and potentially not even going through too much difficulty ( after all credit grinding is very easy, just tedious ), then it's not pay to win, especially if the actual gear isn't being sold, stats and all, for real money.
  8. Well, I'm one of the earliest people to have ever done the link thing almost 5 years ago ( I sort of became a pariah for a while until Bioware said it was perfectly ok and normalized it, it's a very long story ), so I think I can offer some half-decent perspective on positives and negatives this brings. ------------------------------------------ I do think a positive is that the link sharing encourages people to keep investing time in the game by showing they don't necessarily have to shell out a ton of money to get the most in demand skins or save up months of cartel sub grants for one speeder or some armor, and thereby that keeps some people interested who might have otherwise looked at that and been put off. It does also give people something extra to work towards related to this game, also giving incentive to invest time into this. I've also seen that this has been helpful to certain swtor content creators ( youtubers, streamers, website owners, etc ) who are able to post their links which gives their fans a way of helping out those whose content they enjoy. The free week sub time is also generally encouraging to people either wanting to try getting into the game again or want to start. ---------------------------------------- Though a negative is that since this was never intended to work this way, it probably affected the game's cartel profits ( though I can't guess nearly by how much, given I don't know how many people who used the link referral system would have spent actual money on the coins otherwise, or on the other hand how many would have bought coins if the referral link system hadn't made it so certain cartel items would make their way onto the gtn cheaper so they could just spend in game credits ). It also gives the people who sell credits illegally a potential way to fundraise ( but it's not like that wasn't already a problem years prior anyway so I doubt there's been so much damage done in that department that didn't already exist ). And yeah there's the link spam thing, which yeah is annoying, and I sometimes rant in chat when someone does that in ways that make me feel like an old man yelling at kids to get off my lawn. In my day we just put them in our forum signatures and posted frequently on the forums ( even though I haven't posted on the forums for YEARS despite being a continuously active player, I see I STILL get clicks and subsequent coins from people going over old threads I posted in ), so I really am interested in knowing how many clicks people have gotten with that method compared to the forum method. I also never quite understood why people feel the need to shell out credits to get people to click their links, I mean you get a week free sub time and free inventory space which is worth more than the 100k I see typically offered for clicks. I mean I'd lead with the free sub time first rather than that. I guess credits get people's attention more immediately, but still. If I was a new player and saw someone begging me to click a link for credits in chat, I would immediately think someone was trying to give me a virus, whereas on the forums you know mods are active so there's a level of safety. Either way I don't see a real solution to that, if Bioware can't stop the illegal credits-for-money spammers then I think similar issues would arise in trying to deal with link spammers. -------------------------------------------- I think in the end there have been enough positives with the experience overall, it's a common thing people use and engage in that keeps people interested, and as I've mentioned it helps SWTOR content creators who provide some pretty good guides about new game content. And if it affected things too badly I think Bioware would have stepped in and changed it long ago to something more restrictive, so I think the effect on their end is either positive or at the least negligible enough that they're happy to let the players keep enjoying it. Out of curiosity what were your thoughts about solutions OP? And what balance issues do you see?
  9. I think the problem is that each species in the game use the same set of human-like facial features and expressions, and none of those four species have a human like face. Which would create complications in the case of the Kel Dor for example whenever a romance scene comes up that requires kissing. At this point the Chagrians as mentioned earlier would probably be easier to make for this reason. They got the human like facial features, and it's been proven with the Togruta and Twi'leks that the rest of their heads can be taken care of. There's not much chance we'd see them implemented at this point but still probably a better chance than the others.
  10. oh yeah I remember, Wildstar used to be talked about so much on these forums years ago. People used to say it'd outlive this game and that it was the next evolution in MMO's or something, I guess that didn't quite happen in the end
  11. Nothing lasts forever, but I'm honestly happy we get to have this for a while. I honestly didn't think after the last server merges that we'd get anything like this ever again. I'm happy to once again be around a large population of players after everything had felt so empty for so long.
  12. It's probably on your end. If the server merges were the problem you would at least be able to get to the server selection screen. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game yet?
  13. Tarkin (mistakenly) said Vader was all that remained of the Jedi. As for Kylo he leads the Knights of Ren so his order, while not Sith, is still very much active.
  14. Sometimes when you redeem a code you will find a link in Shareable links that will allow anyone you share the link with to get those same rewards. For example, right now players are able to redeem the code SPECIALFORCES to get a free armor set, and while this promotion only lasts until the 20th you are allowed to share this reward to 3 more people until Spring 2018 by going into Shareable links and sharing the links with people. Hope that clears it up
  15. Through planning and scheming over the past few weeks I actually managed to retake every single name I had lost both in the original server transfers (such as Nightprowler ) and when I transferred from Bastion to Harbinger ( like Starforce, Firefighter ), as well as maintain a hold on the rarer names I have like Fusion. All in all it's been a pretty good night and I already had a free rename I got from long ago so I didn't even have to spend too many Cartel coins reclaiming them
