  1. On the other hand, those of us who pre-ordered at Gamestop have been playing the Early Access all week. I got in the 3rd wave on the 13th, while those who pre-ordered via many other places got the shaft on Early Access. So, I guess it evens out. I'll be at my local Gamestop tonight to pick up my game.
  2. Launch will be at 8PM your time (Pacific) tomorrow night, or as it says officially Midnight East Coast time. That is stated in several places.
  3. Well said. Bioware can't get caught in the trap that plagued and continues to plague WOW. There is no way to force people to think things through when choosing a server. Look at all the people who refuse to reroll now. Adding servers doesn't solve that problem. It will only help those who are willing to reroll on the new servers, and based on the forums here, that doesn't appear to be many. The people who refuse to reroll on already existing low pop servers want server transfers instead. Bad idea. This was and is a major problem for WOW. Allow server transfers without careful planning and all you'll do is shift the overpopulation to different servers. Same problem, different servers. Combing the two ideas, lots of new servers and allowing lemming server transfers, is the worst idea of all. Bioware is being cautious for a reason. It isn't even launch yet. They are proceeding with care so that they don't end up in the musical chairs server trap that was WOW for years. They are adding new servers in situations where every server type in that location is already full, as they should. Hopefully they won't buckle to pressure to add servers where a low pop server for rerolling already exists as an option. In that case, the players have a choice, reroll on the low pop server which already is available or suck it up and deal with playing on the popular server. As the population influx stabilizes a bit after a few weeks, Bioware will be able to more accurately predict server populations. At that point, limited server transfers might be a viable option. But not right now. Not when the lemming reflex will kick in and just make the problem worse.
  4. Are you on Taris? If so, there is an entire thread about it as well as a post a couple of days ago in the dev tracker.
  5. I am enjoying myself immensely. The only problem I have is not enough hours in the day to play all 8 of my characters. The story lines are great. The devs did a great job and have overcome my reservations about EA's involvement in buying Bioware. The Early Access was handled very well and it looks like the launch is going to be free of server problems. All in all, I'm happy I pre-ordered.
  6. No. Server transfers didn't do a thing to help WoW. The new server becomes overcrowded and the old server becomes the dead one. The failed non-solutions from other games aren't going to start working here when they so obviously failed elsewhere. Bioware can't force people to spread themselves out sensibly. Those who started playing earlier in the week have a (slim) excuse in that the servers weren't full yet. Now they're paying a sort of price for getting to play before others. Those who started later in the week and rolled on already medium or full servers have no one to blame but themselves. If you don't like server queues, reroll on another, less-populated server. The game hasn't even launched yet.
  7. There are many more, in fact, 79 titles total at the moment. I would tell you the web site to go find them, but there is a rogue GM who is banning people for linking to outside sites to help others with info, calling it advertising. Just think of a comprehensive information site for MMO's, the kind of info about TOR you could keep in your head (hint, hint).
  8. Control-u then control u again will reset your UI.
  9. If you do only the class quests, you can get it by around 12 or 13 maybe. If you do everything but the heroics, by around level 17 or so. If you do Esseles and the heroics and all the side quests and grind a lot of non-quest mob kills then you'll probably be over 18 by the time you get it. It is all dependent upon when you finish your class quest line for your capital world.
  10. Really? Did you consider that no amount of planning can make people spread themselves out over the available servers? The populations are excessive on some servers, but not all. And they're adding more as needed in cases where all of a type of server in an area are full. But they can't do anything about every kid wanting to be on the same server as every other kid. No way to plan for that. They can't do anything about people complaining about overcrowding yet refusing to move to an underpopulated server.
  11. I just got to Taris. Now I'm concerned. I don't want to get stuck like some people are reporting, right at the beginning of a weekend. Looks like it's time to work on an alt until this problem is resolved.
  12. From my own choices, I needed 14 commendations to get an orange (moddable) double-bladed lightsaber and another 14 to get an orange robe. That seems to remain true across most of the worlds, as far as I know. Those 28 commendations will buy you the two good pieces for your class from that world's commendation vendor. The locked containers are hit or miss. Every one I've purchased has had a gun in it, and I'm a Jedi Shadow. So a waste of commendations, for me. You could also purchase an armor piece and in some cases a weapon for your companion/s as well; although not for Qyzen, since the early commendation vendors don't stock techblades. Other than the above, there isn't really a lot of choice in commendation equipment. But that one armor piece and weapon are by far better than anything you're likely to get otherwise at a comparable level. It might be a good idea to visit the commendations vendor as you get to a world, see what they have available and plan accordingly. Total up what you want to buy, reach that total and then just start picking a quest reward other than the commendation after you have enough.
  13. They should have everyone who pre-ordered in the game by tomorrow at the latest. These are the people who didn't get the pre-order code registered until December. Had Bioware stuck with plans to begin the early access yesterday instead of Tuesday, then most of those playing this weekend would have been looking for something else to do this weekend. I am not a Bioware fan. I still have my doubts that EA can manage things without screwing it all up, and I have some reservations about the game itself. But having played games "at launch" since the late 1980's, before many of those whining here were born, I can state without reservation that Bioware handled this launch extremely well. Have servers gone down constantly during the early access? No. Are there bugs which make the game unplayable? No Is there a problem with lag due to poor servers? No Does it appear that the servers are going to be stable at launch? Yes. I can't think of any other major MMO launch which can answer the same to the above questions. Certainly not WoW. The first few weeks of WoW were a constant mess of crashed servers, unscheduled "maintenance", the infamous stuck in loot kneeling position, hours spent trying to get through the account authorization process before even being able to spend hours stuck in loot position and much more. The same or similar problems plagueing launch goes for every other MMO launch of any size, including EQ, SWG, DAoC, WHO, AoC, Aion, Rift, Vanguard: SOH, Earth and Beyond, Eve and many more. I can't think of an MMO I played at launch which didn't suffer major problems. Frankly, I think people need to get a grip and try to remember that other games wouldn't have had Early Access at all or would have botched it or released unplayable bugged crap. And launch isn't even until next week. The people who spent this last week whining, complaining, carping, crying, moaning, insulting and just generally being childish when given the unprecedented opportunity to play a major release MMO days before launch need to spend the next few days, when they aren't actually playing, posting apologies to the staff at Bioware for putting up with their pre-adolescent crap.
  14. I've tried relogging, different cantinas, dismissing him and resummoning him - no good. He wants to talk but I can't talk to him.
