  1. Hi all, As the title suggests, I'm trying to optimize the FPS of my game the best I Can. I have done a ton of research myself but I figure it never hurts to ask the forums as someone may have a bit of info I haven't seen. My current specs: GPU: NVidia RTX 2080; Control Panel set to all highest performance CPU: i7-8700k (Quad Core, 3.70 GHz, 4.0 GHz when gaming, hyperthreading so technically 8 cores) 2 TB SSD 16GB of RAM G-SYNC Monitor (up to 144 refresh rate) So my rig is in a good spot and I'm happy to report that the game is always in a playable state. I do see FPS drops, but never below 30. Warzones are the obvious areas where the game dips in FPS. However, I tend to get a ton of microstutter issues, particularly in Warzones. My FPS will kind of just fluctuate without reason, even when I'm not in area with high activity and it's a little bizarre. At this point I'm aware getting near 60 FPS in this game in Warzones is unreasonable, so at this point I'm just hoping to smooth it out. My current in-game graphics are set somewhere between medium and high. Here they are (as I remember anyway) Fullscreen [Windowed] (I did this as setting to fullscreen caused some more microstuttering issues with my setup for some reason) V-Sync: Turned off (I have a G-Sync monitor so its pretty pointless) Framerate cap: 60 FPS just so my GPU/CPU isn't in overdrive all the time. Shadows: Set to Low; cascading set to their lowest settings. Textures: All set to high except for Anisotropy, which is set to Medium. Bloom: off. I haven't really messed with the ini files as I'm not sure how worth it is. Anyone have any tips to squeeze out a bit more FPS without dropping quality too much, especially in Warzones?
  2. Maybe it's because I am still working on gear, but I no matter what class I play, Mercs give me the biggest issue. I can see their defensive cooldowns, but I just feel like when I try to kill them I'm just pounding my face against a wall because of how many defensives they have. They can kite, eat damage to the face and still blow you up. When I'm on my Op I seriously feel like I can't do anything to them.
  3. I feel like the reason it ended up like this was because in the original class design, they could still shoot from cover. Then all of a sudden they moved them to be more melee-centric and suddenly their main weapons saw far less use. I've gotten used to Mobile Strategies on my Operative so it isn't as big of deal anymore. However, I still have some gripes/approvals: Scoundrel: - The Bludgeon animation sometimes bugs out and uses the Pistol Whip animation, BUT I'm actually okay with this because I use the Zakuul Pistol with the Bayonet on it. So when it does bug and use the Pistol Whip animation, it actually just looks like I'm slashing them with the Bayonet. I actually prefer it bug out more because of it (lol). It seems to only bug out against non-humanoid enemies, which is ironic. - I still hate the surrender animation. There's nothing buggy about it. I just don't like it. - My choice of pistol matters in cutscenes, and it also helps that the voice for the Smuggler is pretty nice. Operative: - Knife animations are pretty neat. - The lack of use on the rifle is somewhat countered by Mobile Strategies so that helps. - I still hate the Kolto Droid animation because it doesn't follow the Operative (or anyone) right. If I use Exfiltrate or any sort of mobility, I end up far ahead of the healing droids and they are just floating around nowhere near me. It really wigs me out. I much prefer the animation of Slow-Release Medpac. - In cutscenes, it's odd that he will whip out the "cutscene pistol" and personally, I don't like the voice on the Agent anywhere near as much as I like the voice on the Smuggler. I still can't pick who I will main for the life of me.
  4. Hey all, I've recently come back to TOR and I am really conflicted on maining my Operative or Scoundrel. I really like them both but I can't decide. Keep in mind I primarily use Concealment/Scrapper. Operative: I love knife animations a lot. I know to some people it seems repetitive but that isn't really my issue. The issue I have is that they carry around a Rifle and literally never use it except for maybe Overload Shot if I decide to use Mobile Strategies. Otherwise in a normal rotation it's just... there. I don't hate it, but it does kinda make me scratch my head sometimes. However, I really hate the Kolto Probe animation. I will just have 2 of them floating around me all of the time, and they don't even follow me correctly. If my movement speed is anywhere above 100% they just fall behind and it just looks janky. However, everything beyond that, I really like their animations for basically everything. Scoundrel I like the fact that they have pretty varied use of most of their kit. They actively use their Blaster, Scattergun and Fists throughout their rotations. I don't really love the punching animations, but I don't hate them either. I definitely prefer the stabbing to the punching. Same with the Scattergun. It does seem silly sometimes that I will just punch Sith in the face, and it's just plain odd-looking against bigger enemies like Mechs. This is sorta mitigated by the potential for brass-knuckle looking skins, but I seriously can't find many skins like that. If anyone has any ideas for skins that make it look like my Scoundrel has Armblades or spiked-knuckles (or something of the like), let me know! Beyond that, I just really hate the Surrender skill in general compared to the Operative's Countermeasures skill. What's everyone else's opinion on the subject?
  5. I'm personally kinda upset that this new social bar decided to plant itself right in the middle of my screen, and now I'm not even able to move it. Don't even get me started on the Quickplay. It's stuck at 0% for me so I can't even play.
  6. Everything I am testing is fully hypothetical. I am fully aware of the fact that getting upgrades and running tests on the game will lead to the same conclusion. I am just covering all of the bases I can before I can confirm with 100% certainty that this game is suffering from memory leaks. The only thing left to test is that the game is trying to access a certain "pipe" that is causing it to crash. I have a GeForce GTX 560 Ti, and I have no idea how to figure out if the pipe the game is trying to access is broken or is just not compatible with the game. Although the possibility is miniscule, there is still a possibility that it may be the video card. I only started having these issues after they released several patches that were meant to "improve game performance" so for all I know something got botched. I ran a stress test with furmark on my gpu and nothing came up in terms of anything being faulty. But at the same time we also have to understand that this problem doesn't extend to just this version of video card. It is happening on models of different makes and manufacturers across the board, with no apparent connection or pattern. Both people using halfway decent rigs to over-the-top gaming rigs are experiencing the issue. So I feel like the problem being my video card or the pipes that are being accessed isn't actually what is happening. We also have to understand that more people DON'T have this problem than those that DO. I have looked at the specs of people who are having the problem, as most people have posted their PC specs. One thing we need to look at is what setup the people who aren't getting this issue have. The very second I see someone with the same setup as I do, or video card as I do, I will know with 100% certainty that the problem is purely with the game, and needs to be fixed, or I won't have any choice but to quit the game. I have made a little bit of progress, though. I did replace my hard drive as I said, along with windows 8 in 64-bit and an increase from 4gb of ram to 8gb. The game runs alot smoother, and now it actually does run significantly longer before it does inevitably crash. So basically, the problem isn't gone, but I think the increase in memory has just allowed more room for the game to leak in to. But windows 8 actually has a nifty built in memory check/cleaner, something xp didn't have (and I don't know if 7 had it). Either way, as I played through the game it did slowly use up more memory in my cpu the longer I played it, nearly doubling after 2 or so hours. After it did inevitably crash, at least this time the desktop didn't lock up on me, so it didn't force me to shut down my computer. This time I just got the standard error report as if it were standard crash, with no forced shut down. So basically, the game is still broken for me. It just isn't slowly killing my pc anymore, which is better than nothing I guess. At least I can do my pvp dailies and leave for the day now without it locking my desktop, now that it takes longer before crashing.
  7. Christmas has passed and I got Windows 8. One of the possibilities of the memory leak was that I was using XP Pro and the game didn't like 32-bit. That is just a theory, however. I now have Windows 8 64-bit and I am going to see if that makes a difference. I also got a new Hard Drive as well, so let's see what happens.
  8. So I changed the user profile I used the game on, and that didn't work. I made sure it was in admin mode, and that didn't make a difference. I downloaded a memory test utility that they recommended (memtest86+) and tested my memory, and nothing was found wrong there. I figured it would be pointless because I recently replaced my 2 2g RAM sticks with a pair of 4g RAM sticks by crucial bullistix. I downloaded a GPU test utility called Furmark to test my video card, and all of the pipes came back fine, and when I stress tested it, it only finally crashed due to overheating (the whole point of stress testing). I even tested it again during gameplay and believe or not the memory the game used up did slowly work its way up. But just to be safe I even tried reinstalling the game AGAIN but on to a different hard drive just to make sure it wasn't my hard drive acting up, and that didn't work either. It may just be my operating system entirely. I'm running XP Pro, what is everyone else using? Quite frankly, I'm out of options here. The game is slowly killing my pc so I'm going to have to stop playing for a while until they decide that releasing new content is not as good as fixing the major amount of bugs that this game has accumulated. A word for advice for you guys in R&D, don't release new content until you fix all of the problems the last bit of content caused. New content may sound cool and all, but what makes people want to keep playing a good game is that the game doesn't slowly kill their PC like a bad habit. My advice would be to dedicate an entire patch, not update, PATCH to fixing bugs and issues like these. We don't need more content as much as we need the game to work. These aren't just simple isolated incidents, this is a major issue that happening to alot of people for you to assume that the problem is on our end. It isn't exactly a big secret that this game has enough bugs that if they were termites they would have already consumed the entire north side of my house. There is no shame in admitting the game has bugs and several issues, as long as you take initiative to fix them. WoW had to dedicate a patch-sized update to fixing bugs and issues in their Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Guild Wars 2 shortly after its release had to dedicate an entire update to bug fixes. Even though I very much prefer SWTOR over those two games, the difference is that neither of those games are slowly killing my PC, so I don't really have a choice.
  9. BIOWARE FINALLY GOT BACK TO ME ON THIS ISSUE (my ticket) After several weeks of waiting, customer support finally got back to me. He said he reviewed the info I sent them and they said there found multiple instances of my Kernel32.dll crashing. They explained it has to do with graphics or memory. I was confused by this at first because normally if the issue is caused by kernel32.dll, it would display an error message. Then again, the desktop doesn't usually load upon crashing, so it is possible that I'm just not seeing them. The things they recommended I do in order were: 1: Run the game in Admin Mode 2: Change or create the pc (not game) profile I play it on, as it may be directly related to a corrupt user account. 3: May be an issue with my own memory (lol), so I should run memory tests. 4: The video card may have a faulty or broken pipe that this game may be trying to access that other games might not, causing crashes. The best way to test it is to run a graphics test utility (if I have one) He also stressed that there were several linked issues to this involving corrupt user accounts on the Microsoft Discussion forums. So here is what I am going to do: 1: The game has always been on admin mode, so that got scratched out immediately. 2: I'll try making a new PC profile just in case he is right about the corrupt user profile, although I doubt it will help. I'm still going to try it to at least say I did. 3. He recommended I run this application called memtest86+, so I'll give that a try. I'm dubious as to whether or not this will work, as if it were my memory specifically this game wouldn't be the only one crashing. 4. I already have furmark on my pc, so I doubt that there is anything wrong with my video card or I may have caught it already, but I don't know how to test specific pipes. I'll figure that out myself. 5: This is something I am going to do myself. On the microsoft support website it mentioned that the kernel32.dll may just be faulty in a single program if there is only one system crashing. Since this is the case, it recommends just reinstalling the program. I have already done this and it didn't work, but I also have 2 hard drives, C and D. Most of my games and applications are on Drive C, while SWTOR is the only one on D (besides league of legends). League of Legends matches normally don't last much longer than an hour, most matches being 30 minutes before it puts me back in the client and back to windows. If it did have a similar issue, I wouldn't notice it because the sessions are usually short. I'm going to try reinstalling again, but this time on my C drive to see if that has any results. Questions for people: Has anyone had an issue like this but had it solved? And does anyone know specifically how to explain the kernel32.dll in lay-man's terms for those that aren't computer experts? And how do I go about testing a specific pipe in my gpu? Thanks.
  10. But on my computer the game itself runs fine (until it crashes that is). I can run the graphics on high and have very few fps drops, except in the fleet when there are like 200 people all in the trade market. Otherwise it runs fine no matter what I do. It's just when I'm trying to leave the game that it crashes on me, and I will sometimes experience choppiness after an hour or so, but nothing that drastic. The only real issue I am having is the game crashing my PC by failing to load the desktop after playing for an extended period of time.
  11. I don't think anything about this setup is outdated. How much was this setup may I ask?
  12. Saw these specs then I proceeded to brown my trousers. Then it made me realize that upgrading my computer won't do anything.
  13. This is likely a good thing for the players because the chances are that they are the ones who screwed it up to begin with. Maybe if we are lucky they will hire new ones who will actually fix the issue.
  14. Tried it anyway just so at least say I tried. Didn't do a thing.
  15. Okay, I also tried playing the game in windowed mode so that the desktop doesn't totally freeze up upon exiting, as some people have had success with that. It didn't work at all. I did however have a theory and tried allocating more virtual memory. It didn't solve the problem but something I did notice is that I can play the game give or take 30 minutes longer before experiencing any issues. This was just 1 instance though so I can't really be 100% sure. All I know is that at some point I am going to have to reinstall the game. If it doesn't work, then sorry SWTOR, I love you but you are also slowly destroying my PC. Considering the Devs won't even bother to respond to this issue, you aren't giving me that much of a choice.
