  1. Login service is unavailable for me after logging out briefly. It was fine until NA woke up, so I'm guessing their servers can't take all the F2Pers right now. Pretty poor form IMO.
  2. I have only two things to say: XWING, and XvT. It's a no brainer, or should be. Mission based, open space multiplayer combat. It's just not as hard as everyone seems to be making out.
  3. XWing. XWing vs. Tie Fighter. Make it so. It's a no brainer. The tube shooter is well done (mostly), but was only place holder so they said. The game needs open space combat. Whoever is making the decisions that don't include this, are making the wrong ones. It's Star Wars for goodness sake.
  4. I found a few of the LS choices cheesy, unrealistic, and to display a lack of understanding of what the light side was (at least, what it was set up to be in the movies). I quickly lost connection with the mechanic because of this. Ditto with the dark side stuff. It's not very well done sometimes (though sometimes it is). The choice can be not meaningful enough, and then impenetrable i.e. you just did some thing bad and gained LS points, or both choices suck and it seems arbitrary which one is which. In the end, the mechanic has revealed more about the moral ambiguity of the designers and writers than the world of SWTOR
  5. ...you're completely missing the point. Maybe reread the thread? *shrug*
  6. Not exactly, and sorry for the tight reasoning. It was a *Jedi* mindtrap.
  7. Here's the thing though: how many people would have been on the edge about continuing to play SWTOR, and then saw these axes and it's changed their mind? And then how many have been on the edge, have seen these axes, and it's been the last straw? I'm betting there are more than a few of the latter, and none of the former. Which makes me (and others) wonder at the thinking that came up with this and other ideas. It's not going to get better.
  8. I actually typed "canon" and deleted it before posting. I'm impressed you have used it though I read a lot of books and comics inbetween the first three movies. The lore within them generally made sense, and the authors were exceptionally careful about maintaining the tone of the universe. Beyond that, Lucas got all money hungry (that, or he didn't have a good grasp on what he had created in the first place - witness midachlorians) and begin green lighting all sorts of extravagant and tone breaking stuff. Hence now you have a literal mish mash of broken lore. So in a way, yes, I appeal to the first three movies on their own as the standard for lore. And yes again, much of what has been produced since is tripe, and diminishes the tone of the universe. There is a lot that is good too (often fan created). TL;DR appealing to some fanciful, awkward "sciencified" notion of magic metal that somehow resists lightsabres is bad enough. Suggesting Jedi/Sith would choose them over a clearly more powerful and useful lighsabre.... well. The effect on the tone of the Star Wars universe, and the core of the Jedi mythology and idea is fatal. Things immediately get smaller, and less compelling. KOTOR were good games, as they were. The lore they used (vibra swords yadda yadda) was feaking awful and sacrificed authenticity for gameplay. This is the biggest problem with all SW games past Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, XWing etc. Bioware have always created awkward half-good half-bad games. But in no way should they be used as the basis for wider lore! Anyway, it's all moot. Bioware are going to do what makes money now, not what makes better games. In this they are in the same boat as Blizzard (Jedi axes belongs in the same bucket as a Monk summoning a temple to "explode" upon its enemies). What bemuses me is how so many players no longer feel the conflict between what is happening and the original Star Wars. It shows that the circle is indeed complete :/
  9. That would be fine, so long as it cost an incredible amount, was difficult to get, and when the game rolled a fumble, you removed a limb (not having the ability to see the future and react to it before it happens, as Jedis/Sith do). ... I can't believe I'm arguing the finer points of Star Wars lore. I've turned into those geeks from the 80's.
  10. There is lore, and there is lore. The universe established by the first three movies (and let's face it, they're the only ones that can be taken seriously) would not have Jedis with anything but lightsabres. But meh, if you don't see it and it has to be reiterated, there's hardly any point being anything but whimsical. So the only thing I'd really like to know is when we'll be getting a sparkling pony mount.
  11. Axes are fine. Jedis trading lightsabres for metal axes is the issue. The fact that quite a few don't immediately understand that, and why, emphasizes the point. Rather painfully, btw.
  12. The issue of manufacturing lore to fit game mechanics is kind of my point. It's always (always) a bad idea. The only games that got the Jedi/Star Wars experience right were the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games. In an MMO, you would have had to exclude the "class" from players to avoid diluting and diminishing it to fit gameplay balance concerns. SWG initially were on the right track with their approach, but players tantrumed so much they changed things. So, the point of magical metals ("sciencified" to make them somehow believable) actually makes my point for me. You can create any sort of device within lore that you want to, and manufacture any sort of explanation as to why it exists. That doesn't prevent it diluting and reducing the universe - which is always does. It takes real courage to maintain a fictitious universe and keep it authentic to itself. I agree that Star Wars passed that point years ago with the prequels. None of which stops Jedis using axes instead of lightsabres from being a fatal undermining of the things that made the original Jedi idea, and the original Star Wars universe so compelling.
  13. Despite the implications to games everywhere, I genuinely loled.
  14. I say we just throw a portal in each Fleet to Dalaran, Iron Forge, and Stormwind, and be done with it.
  15. Well, building something into the lore post 4/5/6 and confabulating an awkward explanation does not make it rigorous or logical. Midachlorians anyone? If lightsabre hilts were able to be made from such metal, why are they continually severed by single strikes in the movies? But the inelegant contrived lore is a side issue really. Axes and Jedis? It's a complete dilution of the fantasy. You guys are undermining your own universe.
