  1. Einobi, I think you will find I never denied the success of Eve, nor your statement that they are the best survivor in terms of MMO's. I merely pointed out that they should not be considered to be either an early poineer, or the sole successful one. I also did not call you stupid or a crybaby. Beyond that it is not my role in life to provide you with answers, merely to channel your own research by pointing out where you have gaps in your knowledge. Regards Wolfy
  2. Hi All, OP, whilst I disagreed with a number of your points, I was somewhat impressed with your knowledge on the subject at hand. Then you wrote the above. If one is going to speak with authority on a subject, it is generally good practice to get your facts correct. Placing the infancy of MMO's and the internet in 2003 and Eve Online as THE pioneer of the MMO is a tad shortsighted. You need to do a bit more research in that area . Regards Wolfy
  3. Greetings All, I have a couple of points to throw into the mix, but first a straight answer to the OP's question. Should groups of 3+ be forced to queue for Ranked Warzones? No! Ranked Warzones (the way they are currently set up) are for dedicated guilds/groups of 8+ people with multiple WH geared lvl 50's who form 8 man tactical squads to match strategy and tactics against other like minded groups. It is a high-end PvP option for a small (I assume) percentage of the player base that currently (from what I hear/read) is not being used much. The points I would like to make is about two words used a lot in this thread; Fair and Fun. Many people in this thread feel that 3/4 man teams who know each other and are using voice comms to co-ordinate their play have an unfair advantage over solo players. This is untrue. What they have is an advantage. For it to be unfair would mean that other players have no option to play in this way. If you choose to play solo, not engage with others and not use a Voice comms systems, then that is your right. What this does mean is that you are choosing to put yourself at a disadvantage to those who do. Before I get flamed, I understand that some people are unable (for a number of valid reasons) to use voice comms, they still have the option to ask for additional assistance in playing warzones. One of the best PvP'ers in my Guild is Deaf. When they play we make sure that critical tactical information is typed in ops chat as well as called out on comms. So the ability to group up with freinds, discuss tactics and communicate outside the game does give you an advantage. But as ANYONE can with a bit of effort choose to be in a position to do that, then it is not unfair. On the other hand, I have to agree with an earlier poster, that constantly losing match after match of PvP night after night can be not only un-fun but potentially soul destroying (in a game sense). So I understand the desire to somehow balance the game so that choosing to play solo and PUG still means a chance of winning. I totally support the idea of Bioware continuing to work on the matching system and improving it, but I don't believe that adding more bands/grades etc. is the answer. I would far rather participate and grab whatever fun I can from 4 mismatched Warzones with only a 2 min queue than have to wait 30+ mins between matches for a supposedly balanced match (that I may still lose). However I am also fully aware of the immense difficulty in creating such a balance, and the problems this could create. No form of balancing is ever going to completely accurate. Imagine if BW introduced a system that matched 4 man groups with 4 man groups based on Level of Gear, number of Warzones played,, wins etc. Sounds great right? Wrong? What happens to the group of 4/5 freinds who tend to warzone together casually every Friday night (and have been doing so since lauch). They are not that serious, their skills are average, they don't really worry too much about tactics, as "it's just a bit of fun with mates". Their record is ok, they tend to lose more than they win, but because they have been grinding so long, they all have EWH gear and lots of stats, 1000's of WZ's played 1000's of kills etc. The simple fact is though they are not that good. With the new system, they would likely never win a Warzone AGAIN, EVER. OK that is an exageration, but you get my drift. If they are now forced into playing in a more "elite" band, they are going to suffer badly. So what has improved the Quality of Game Life for some has now reduced it for others, and therein lies the problem of "balance" I understand the desire of people to be able to queue up for a Warzone any which way they choose and have a 50/50 chance of a win. However there is no technology on Earth that could analyse every facet of an individuals ability, playstyle, build, etc. and those of everyone else queuing simutaneously and create matched games. So could it be better? Well of course. Any system can be improved over time. Are BW working on it? I can only read the news where they say they are and assume that is the case Thanks for listening Regards Wolfy
  4. Hi All, The thief or thieves tried the same to us last night. Thanks to this and the previous thread we were already pre-prepped to deal with it and the scumbag got no further than recruit. He claimed to be me (Guild leader), but all my officers were wise to this little trick and so after a few minutes of whispering people in chat and getting nowhere the piece of excrement \gquit and went to look for easier meat. So thanks all for getting the info out, I am prettty sure our Guild security would have minimised any major losses, it's always good to be aware of the current scams. Regards Wolf
  5. Hi All :-) As a person who worked for almost a decade in the industry, working on weekly/daily/hourly updates to a massively larger user base where failure had a potentially much higher cost than just a large number of peed off users, I cannot help but be sympathetic for the people currently trying to resolve this issue. Right now there are a bunch of dedicated people with families who are no doubt trying as hard as they can to resolve a situation that was not directly their fault, who have a bunch of executives hovering on their shoulders going "Have you fixed it yet?" My support and sympathy goes out to them. Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc Regards Wolfman
  6. Cool thread OP I would have to say my Vanguard would be played by Tommy Flanagan (SOA). I even did my toon with the glasgow smile scars in his honour Regards Wolf
  7. Hi All, I always find it interesting when people bring the anonymity of the internet into these arguments. I assume they are suggesting that people who post their views would never do so face to face in a discussion. In my experience, people who will lurk and gank lower levels from home, will quite happily sit at a booth at a convention or LAN party 5 ft from the person they are ganking with no worries whatsover, and will defend their viewpoint vocally when challenged. In fact, doesn't suggesting people wouldn't do this or say this "to your face" imply that you would somehow intimidate them physically hence scaring them into acting the way YOU want rather than the way THEY want? Regardless of that, I always enjoy reading the polarised opinions in these threads as they come up week in week out. The simple fact is that the game mechanics are set up in such a way as to allow this behaviour. Calling for it to be changed (fixed) is something the OP is perfectly entitled to do, however OP you must understand that an alternative DOES exist for you which is the PvE servers. It sounds like you want open world PvP, but want it to somehow be "fair". There is no such animal in MMO's. All fights are going to be "unfair" one way or another. If 3 level 50's in full Warhero gear had appeared on your side and killed the "ganker" would you have considered that fair? justice? No, that would have just been ganking the ganker ( a fun a wonderful pastime BTW). As to the comments about "spoiling a persons gametime", well to be honest I find this a non argument. Player x loves to Warzone but nobody on his server is queing - They are spoiling his gametime Player y loves to win and hates to lose - Anyone who beats her is spoiling her gametime Player z loves to craft and sell gear - Nobody is buying and so is spoiling his gametime. So almost anything anyone does in an MMO is going to spoil somebody elses day in some way Everyone has a personal code of ethics that includes how they behave in MMO's. If a person chooses to derive enjoyment by Ganking lowbies, then that is their personal choice. If they find a game and/or a community that allows this behaviour then they have the absolute right to enjoy themselves. If a person hates ganking and gankers and finds a game and or community that allows this they have many options 1. Don't do it, ignore those that do and just accept that it happens 2. Do something about it within game - Organise Anti-gank squads on their Server, join a good guild, etc. 3. Roll on a PvE Server 4. Choose another game that does not allow this. 5. Petition the game designers to change the game to suit them. Look at this list and ask yourselves which of these options sounds the most selfish? FTR I chose option 2 Regards Wolf
  8. Hi all, To clarify all the info here. There are NO daily commisions vendors on the Fleet There are 2 Mission support vendors on Ilum, Corellia and Belsavis. AFAIK, they are the same vendors on each planet (i.e. there is no advantage to going to one planet over another), however they 2 vendors DO sell different items. (Anyone clarify this is correct?) Regards Wolf
  9. None. The Impossible secter (Republic) gives 2 DAILY Comendations Regards Wolf
  10. Hi OP, From what I have seen, the Biometric Crystal alloy drops about 50% of the time (from the 120 fleet commendations box level 7?), I have seen it drop 1 2 & 3 at a time, so it is a small gamble. With a fully maxed out ship and a completion on all the missions you can easily earn 60 -70 commendations (+ 2 Daily commendations), a tonne of credits and some legacy (or pre 50 real ) xp. I have become quite addicted to the space missions and normally spend 30 - 60 mins each play session getting the high value ones done. This has so far allowed me to donate 6 Biomentric crystal alloy to our guild bank (and keep a few back for myself) in about 2 weeks of play. Hope that helps Wolf
  11. Ok, one of the most glaring is as follows. Ben Kenobi to Luke in ROTJ "When I first knew him, your father was already a great pilot. But I was amazed how strongly the Force was with him. I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi. I thought that I could instruct him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong. My pride has had terrible consequences for the galaxy." In TPM when Obi Wan firsts meets Anakin he has never piloted a ship in his life, and Ben did not "take it on himself" to train him, he was asked to by his master Qui Gon. I could go on and provide all the errors, but it's game time. Regards Wolf Edit - Sorry I posted this while you were writing your reply. I shall take some time tonorrow and do you a bullet list :-)
  12. I'm not 100% sure what you mean with that last post. There are some very obvious differences between what is both said and implied by characters in the OT and events that happen in the prequals. Now some of them can possibly be explained away but many cannot. At the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with liking all 6 movies, and enjoying the story as presented, but that does not mean you can brush continuity errors under the carpet and pretend they don't exist. Qui Gon was a late addition to the story and as such his introduction contradicts direct statements and storyline from the OT. Now Lucas did a great job in the OT of changing some basic plot elements as the trilogy eveolved and coming up with reasonably plausible explanations for earlier contradictory statements. I feel however he did a bad job of it with the Prequels. Regards Wolf
  13. Hi All, This has been a fascinating discussion and I would like to add some points for consideration. First off let me state that I felt Liam did a very good job with the character and despite what I write next, I enjoyed him as a character in a movie. However the problem I have is that he is a contradiction in an already contradictory story. The on camera dialogue from 5 characters in the OT tells a very clear and compeling story. Owen and Beru Lars are Luke's real Aunt and Uncle. Whilst it is never made totally clear I was always of the impression that despite the last name difference, Anakin and Lars were brothers. They all three grew up on Tattooine and were close. Anakin was a "great pilot" implying his age was late teens to early 20's when he meets a young Jedi by the name of Obi Wan Kenobi ( A man trained by a Master Yoda). Obi Wan takes it on himself to teach Anakin to become a Jedi (as Yoda had trained him). Anakin then follows Obi Wan off to fight in the clone wars, becomes the best star pilot in the galaxy and a close freind of Obi Wan. Somewhere along the line he meets (and possibly marries) a nameless woman. Not knowing she is pregnant with his children Anakin is then seduced by the Dark Side and helps the Emperor hunt down the Jedi. Obi Wan changes his name to Ben and returns to Tatooine. At some later point hearing about the birth of Anakins children Obi Wan visits their mother and persuades her to go into hiding. He takes Luke back to Tattoine and gives him over to the care of his Uncle. Leia and her mother are hidden away on Alderaan. Some time in Leia's early childhood, her mother dies and so she is adopted by the Organa family. That is the story as it's told in the 3 movies by the characters, and it is the story I think of when I think of Star Wars. No amount of revisions, prequals, cannon, non cannon, explanation or otherwise can change that for me. Nowhere in this story is there a mention of a Qui-Gon Jinn and in fact almost every point is contradicted by the prequal movies. To my mind, the prequal trilogy is more of a reboot to the story than an actual prequal. Regards Wolf
  14. My feedback from another thread http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=4088483#post4088483 Regards Wolf
  15. Hi OP, You asked for constructive feedback so I would like to provide some. FTR I play on a PvP Server and as such had zero issues. A number of cases / examples have been brought up here and in other threads so I'll try and list them and the solutions from my POV. Low level toons questing on planets other than Tatooine. - The issue appears to be that other players carried the plague to these planets and stood around in market/taxi/rest areas infecting others. Now as the explode mechanic was random, and gave a warning (which froze the character in place) which allowed you to move away, I can see the first couple of times being annoying but after that it should have been fairly simple to avoid. So for 9 days, players had to exercise a certain amount of caution in public areas. Even if players were infected, there should have been no issue in carrying on with their questing and just accepting the occasional freeze / death from the plague. Once they were out in the quest areas I doubt they would be reinfected so not a huge issue. Level 10's coming to the fleet and getting infected. Now I can see this happening as on a crowded fleet it would be slightly harder to avoid multiple explosions. That said, There are only really 2 reasons for a level 10 to be on the fleet in the first place. Either they just want to look around, in which case the plague was nothing more than a minor nuisance, or they were going for Flashpoints. I completely concede the point that acess area for the flashpoints perhaps should have been off limits to infected players. I however stress again that unless there was a massive mob of people in this area, just quickly running through, acessing the quest and entering is a very short time to be randomly caught by an explosion. It's possible, but I feel less of an issue than is being made out here. Opposite faction on a PvE server infecting you and causing your PvP flag to activate then engaging you in PvP. I agree that this is wrong and probably an oversight on the part of the Dev team. Now if the vaccine stopped this, then it is less of an issue as regular questing should easily nett you way more than 2K every 6 hours. So the real issue which could have been improved (and again I think was an oversight) was that the vaccine dissapeared at death. That simple change would have allieviated the issue. The final complaint I have seen is in regard to Warzones. To me this is a non issue. If you engage in warzones then regardless of your server type, you are engaging in PvP. The plagued warzones was a 9 day event that effected both sides equally. All in all the only instance I can see from all of these is if whilst minding their business on a PvE server getting some questing done, a group (2+) of toons from the other faction deliberately chased another player round the map trying to infect and gank them. The only way of avoiding this would have been to keep running for as long as it took for them all to pause and explode, however good timing on their part could keep this chase up for hours. I agree this would class as Harrassment/griefing. If anyone did experience that siuation then I fully support you for raising a ticket and I hope Biware would have responded to that particular situation with action. All other instances I feel are not griefing or harrasment and should be left alone. Regards Wolf
