  1. Thanks for all the input guys I appreciate the help. EDIT: I actually found an old SSD lying around the house. It's a Crucial M4 128GB will this be of any use?
  2. Thanks for the advice guys, I'll definitely go for the SSD and aextra memory. Actually got in touch with a mate who is familiar with building pc's, so he's gonna help me build one from scratch and has a few old parts to spare that i can work with
  3. Ok so 16GB RAM is a definite anyway...but Graphics, CPU etc. all good?
  4. Hi guys, Finally upgrading my outdated rig (it's a HP about 9 years old) I have a rig I managed to design for €850 Just wanted to get some opinions on how it will play SWTOR, before I go ahead and buy it? Stats are as follows; Case Game Max Destroyer Midi Red - USB 3.0 CPU i5-6400 2.70GHz Skylake Cpu Cooling Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 €+23 Motherboard Gigabyte B250M-D3H Intel KabyLake MATX Memory (RAM) Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (1x8GB) 2400MHz DDR4 Memory Hard Drive 1 (HDD) 1TB Seagate Barracuda Hard Drive 3.5 SATA III Optical Drive (CD/DVD) 24x LiteOn Internal DVD Re-Writer Graphics Card (GPU) GeForce GTX 1050 2GB €0 Power Supply (PSU) 500W Aerocool Integrator 80+ Certified OR Similar Wi-Fi Card TP-LINK 450Mbps Wireless Dual Band PCI + €40 Keyboard & Mouse Powercool Lightning LED Blue/Red/Purple Keyboard + Mouse Kit+ €25 OS Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit Pre-Installed So if i could get some feedback about what setting I can expect to run SW on, that'd be awesome
  5. So I've been running TOR on my current setup now for a couple of months, it barely passes minimum requirements, lags an awful lot, cannot hope to deal with pvp and all of this is with the graphics to the very lowest possible... I used to play on a better quality desktop but TOR has stopped working on it, presumably due to a fried graphics card. But what I think i'll do is a buy or build a new setup. I've never tried my hand at building a pc but from what I've read and heard, it's not too difficult and can be learned very quickly. So I just wanna know the pro's and con's of building vs buying. And also what kinda results i can hope to achieve with a budget of say €700($955)?? Bearing in mind, that being from Ireland, I don't have the same ease of access to computer parts without incurring horrifying shipping costs.
  6. Selkath maybe?? Or a playable Geonosian would be awesome
  7. OK, some of the ideas have been helpful and i've been looking into them. But, it seems to me that the majority of the problems that my pc has hardware-wise, start with the motherboard and it's capabilities yes? And I have also seen quite a few suggestions to build my own pc. Well could I not just get a new, better motherboard and work my way up from there? The pc itself is an ex-custom build job in an xBlade casing (not sure exactly which one, but probably a few years old). So instead of waiting and saving, and trying to fund a brand new desktop, could I not use what I already have and start to build around it? I don't really know anything about hardware and how to measure what's good and what isn't, but a new motherboard would allow for a more powerful CPU and RAM which would already increase my performance? I'm not looking for top-quality graphics that mean I can run everything in ultra-high with shaders, textures and shadows all the way up. If that was what I wanted, I would have just saved myself the effort and bought an alienware desktop. However, I do like the sound of a custom-build and wouldn't mind having a go at it
  8. I'm not financially ina position to buy a new custom pc, hence why I got this older budget one. Now you guys keep saying things like mt chipset are outdated...But can't I realistically just get a new CPU or processor or whatever the main components are? Ok so what's an SSD drive? Also, I live in Ireland, so if I were to buy a custom pc. Online is out of the question because I would have to pay an absolute fortune in shipping charges
  9. OK what I asked for, was helpful suggestions of anything I could do to mod my current pc setup to improve performance, not negative comments about my poor choice of pc purchase (which I payed €275 incl. a 26" monitor) or how outdated my software is. I already know these things, hence why I asked how I could improve it. My graphics drivers are 2012 so they aren't too outdated. Also as far as "effectively failing" at reaching the minimum spec...Well a moderator told me my pc passed the minimum spec and the game does actually run on medium graphics. So if anyone has anything useful or helpful to add, don't hesitate. But please keep smart comments to yourself. As I said, I know next to nothing about computers
  10. I won't be getting a new pc, I only bought this about 2 months ago. So that's not an option. Well my brother's pc is running vista 64 on the same graphics card as mine but he has a quad core processor in his. And his game runs faster on better graphic settings than mine
  11. Personally, I'd like to see the Nikto in the game as a playable race. They seem to be mostly Republic sided, but because of their limited facial expression and just evil reptilian look, I'd like to be a Sith Warrior Nikto
  12. OK so, this is probably the only forum I have an account on, and I am completely clueless about the hardware aspects of a pc. So I was hoping one of you technical genius' out there could help out. I am currently running SWTOR on the following; OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ RAM: 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR @ 167MHz (3-3-3-7) Motherboard: DFI Corp,LTD LP NF4 Series (Socket 939) Graphics: SyncMaster (1920x1200@60Hz) 512MB GeForce 7900 GTX (XFX Pine Group) Hard Drives: 233GB Seagate ST3250620A ATA Device (PATA) 466GB Hitachi HDS72505 0KLA360 SCSI Disk Device (ATA) Optical Drives: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS70 SCSI CdRom Device DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device Audio: NVIDIA® nForce Audio And what I want to know is, how can I increase my game's performance? It's quite laggy at certain points, mostly the Fleets and during PvP, and is also quite slow to load new worlds/flashpoints etc. I don't want to lower my graphics quality for better performance or any in game options. I just want to know hardware-wise what can I do/buy to increase my computers overall performance for this game?
  13. I just decided out of curiosity to check the cost of an upgrade pack for my standard edition to a deluxe edition. At which point I discovered that it was €20, so I said that's far too expensive for the few limited items i would get. Just to confirm, I said i'd check the cost of the deluxe addition as a stand alone, at which point I discovered that the standard edition is now only 12.99 and the deluxe is only 14.99! So how can it be that I paid 54.99 for my physical copy of the game, my brother payed 34.99 for his digital copy of the game and I'm being told that it will cost more for me to upgrade my game that to buy a grand new digital copy of the game! This is ludicrous! If i had waited 2 months longer, I could have bought about 7 deluxe copies of the game for what I paid for my 2 copies. And i have also seen that as a "consolation" existing and current players will get a few measly Cartel coins or whatever they're called?? How is that a fair trade off for the fact that I paid full price for the game and a full monthly subscription and new players can buy the game for 12.99 and play to level 50 for free with a few restrictions!? I feel that I am being unfairly ripped off by Lucasarts and am extremely unhappy with this situation
