  1. I really wish I could say the same. I could put up with the waiting in the quese, got in via early access days ago. But the lag is so bad I can't even navigate through doors. Can't tell if the computer didn't register the keystroke, or just hasn't reacted yet. I get on the forums try all the "I had lag & then I did this" solutions, nothing works. I just don't get it, I never have problems with my internet doing anything else, it's a new desktop computer only had it a year, system specs match up. This the first time I've tried an MMO, usually I am playing my usual franchises Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Fallout, Bioshock, & Dragon Age. I was really hoping for another franchise to add to the mix. All I know for sure, is I work sixty to eighty hours a week, & my willingness to invest time to get a game to work has limits. Especially when I can play Skyrim whenever I want. Unless something changes by the end of that first thirty days, it will also be my last MMO, & SWTOR simply becomes in-store credit towards the next game. Really kind of sad, especially when I consider how much I loved playing KOTOR 1 & 2, which was the primary reason I was willing to give this game a try to be honest.
  2. In all likelyhood you are correct. There was already a lot of talent involved with the making of the prequels. Lucas simply needed a wingman willing to challenge him, not simply give in to his every whim. Lucas was sent back to the drawing board several times on the original trilogy, & had people willing to challenge him during the making of those films. THe difference in the end result is obvious to everyone.
  3. According to the lore Exar Kun created the double-bladed lightsaber. He was the first to use it.
  4. To an awnser this question I think you have to first state what is right with the prequels. What's right with the prequels: 1: An excellent cast Christopher Lee, Liam Nison, Ewan McGregor, Ian McDirmiad, Natile Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, etcetera. Rarely do you see a movie, or a series of movies with so acomplished a cast selection. Normally a cast like this indicates your going to be watching something that is a least above average. 2: George Lucas+Special effects. While it's fairly obvious from the prequels that Lucas isn't an actor's director, it's also fairly obvious from his body of work over the years that he knows special effects. Simply put we have a movie where a director is being given a huge budgett, the freedom to make the movie he wants to, & is making it in a genre he excells at. Couple this with the cast & how can we go wrong? 3: Highly talented support staff. Whether it be composers, fight coreographers, set designers, etcetera. You had a lot of people who have done very impressive work over the years. So not just are your face people high caliber, your behind the scenes people are as well. Now normally when you combine these three elements in any film you end up with a winner. Perhaps not another Star Wars, Blade Runner, or Dune; but an above average film you will seek to watch more than once. However, if I had to equate the prequels potential, with its' actual preformance it would be as follows. Imagine your a die hard fan of your local sports franchise. It's opening day, & your stoked. New managment has come in, a coach that has lead many teams to the big game is now leading your team, they've recruited some of the top talent from other teams, & the franchise has spent a bundle on new training equipment, trainers, etcetera. & before the opening whistle, pitch, tip off, what have you; your team begins pummeling each other in a bout of roid rage induced psychosis; as the fans, oppossing team, & sports casters all look on in confusion. What's wrong with the prequels: 1: Actors as little more than props that talk. Their characters consistently do actions that seem to fly in the face of who the character is, are completely unbelievable, or in general defy the logic established by the story. Natalie Portman's character is a perfect example. I trust we can all agree the young actress has demonstrated her acting ability in multiple films, yes. However, through out all three movies this characters contorts themselves around the various plot holes to attempt to make the narrative cohesive, no matter how illogical. Whether it be going off to clean a droid while the Jedi & fake queen discuss what to do next; marrying an emotionally unstable mass murderer a few weeks after meeting him; or simply having "lost the will to live" after just giving birth to twins & stating there is still good in Anakin. We are constanly asked to accept actions from this character, that fly in the face of everything the story tells us this character is. 2: Unlikeable protagonists. Whether it be the falling flat of Jar Jar Binks attempts at comic relief, or Hayden Christensen's constant whinning; so many of the characters we are suppost to sympathize with are simply completely unsympathetic. If you can't make your audience care about the journey of your characters, then you've already failed as a story teller. 3: The lack of the everyman character. The Phantom Menace is a perfect example of this. Through out most of the movie we are surrounded by people who know what is ging on & never explain the basics. Who, what, why, where, & when are all known to everyone with the exception of Anakin & Jar Jar. & both fail miserably at being our eyes into the world by being completely unrelatable to. Anakin because of his age is largely oblivious to the greater situation, & Jar Jar by virtue of him being largely oblivious in general. True, an everyman character isn't essential. But, it does help us gain an understanding of the world we find ourselves in. & this lack of an everyman character, coupled with a lack of dialouge in general to expalin the situation cripple the story. Information that found it's way into the novelization of the film, as well as supplemental novels surrounding the time line. I could make this list considerably longer, however I believe I have made my point.
  5. Not sure of the exact wording of the wuote or it's source to be honest. I used it because everytime a versus thread involving Sidious, Vader, or both springs up it seems to be the default argument for a large percentage of forum posters. However, with as many times as it's been posted, I can't ever remember someone posting a counter argument that stated the quote was false. Though your posting does make me curious, was Lucas intending to state that Vader only reached 80% of Vader's potential, or only reached 80% of Sidious potential? Hmm, going to have to go looking for this interview when I get a chance, find out the exact wording Lucas used in the interview. When I wrote this I was intending to say Vader reaches 80% of Sidious' potential, not 80% of his true potential. At least that was the meaning I always took form the quote people use. I'll clean up the wording a bit.
  6. I think these trailers demonstrate the potential of the medium, now it simply needs a real story of a caliber worthy of the title Star Wars. Simple name recognition will ensure the revenues from the project. I would much prefer it to be about something far removed from the movies timeline. Just a few examples of characters I think deserve their own movies: 1: Darth Bane 2: Exar Kun 3: Naga Sadow 4: Ajunta Pal
  7. The problem with this line of thinking is that Lucas doesn't consider the EU part of his Star Wars universe. So most of the feats people reference Sidious doing, actually didn't happen according to Lucas, as Lucas has also stated that Sidious was never cloned he dies above endor on the second deathstar.
  8. Possibly, however it seems that a lot of posters on these forums don't consider game mechanics canon. & if the do consider it canon, the consider it canon of the lowest caliber trumped by books, movies, interviews, etcetera. Which of course leads us back to the original problem the validity of the 80% quote as it relates to these versus threads.
  9. So is the whole "Vader is 80% of Sidious power" a legitimate argument as it is always refrenced in Vader versus anyone debates?
  10. So dear forum members I would like to pose a question to you. As the re-emergence of the versus threads has proven a certainty, a Vader vs. Revan thread is already posted. It seems likely that one featuring Sidious will not be far behind. So before that happens I would like to discuss some often cited bits of canon lore that will no doubt be used. Now we all know that Lucas states that Sidious is the most powerful Sith ever. & we also know that Sidious in the EU, is for all intents & purposes the "force devil" to Luke's "force jesus". Something which some fans complain about, yet it is canon noe the less. So most largely except Sidious as the most powerful Sith. Now Lucas states in his version of Star Wars, that Sidious isn't cloned he dies over Endor on the second deathstar. He also states that while Anakin had the potential to reach 200% of Sidious potential, because of the actions on Mustafar he only reaches about 80% of Sidious' force potential. So which version of Sidious is Vader 80% as powerful as? Only the Lucas' version of Sidious, the EU version of Sidious, both versions of Sidious, neither as the canon has become to convuluted perhaps? Just looking to see what everyone elses thought on the matters are, especially considering the versus threads are starting back up again.
  11. When the movie first came out the complaint was that Jar Jar Binks, seemed to resemble hollywoods potrayals of African Americans during their less PC days. Mainly it seemed a throwback to a rather negative era in films. Lucas probably didn't intend it to come across as such, but it was how it was precieved by some.
  12. Irksome, befuddling, or just plain what the hell thing in the Star Wars movies? Not many just the following: 1: A democratically elected monarch that is a fourteen year old girl in the midst of puberty? 2: When they escape Naboo & run the blockade & only one ship is shooting at them? 3: Gui-Gon, Obi-Wan, & Padme insist on taking Jar Jar Binks around with them everywhere, yet are willing to leave behind more competent & skilled people? 4: Having Padme clean R2-D2? 5: Anakin Skywalker & his mother are slaves on planet run by brutal intergalatic mob bosses who place explosives in slaves. Yet anakin & his mother have a multiple room dwelling? 6: Watoo is described as greedy & cruel, yet Anakin has the parts to assemble a fully working droid? 7: The planet they live on is described as being a place of last resort, where desperate people hideout; yet Anakin assembles a working speeder that sits out in the open for months that isn't stripped for parts or stolen outright? 8: Darth Mauls death scene? 9: Why would anyone listen to some mystery hologram of some random guy you've never met, & launch a fullscale military invasion of a planet because he says so? 10: Who would design a ship that allows you to fly right into the hanger bay, pull up to critical engine parts, hit it with a couple bits of light ordnance, & then the whole ship explodes? 11: Why does an entire fleet of ships leave when the entire situation is still in flux, & the treaty being signed is so important? 12: If the treaty is so important why is Padme sent to away from the palace? 13: Where did all the starships, drop ships, tanks, & various other military hardware they used in Attack of the Clones come from, if they were still debating the creation of a military? 14: Who was bankrolling the creation of an entire army & all their hardware, & yet was still able to hide it from everyone for ten years? 15: How does Yoda leave Coruscant, & mobolize an entire army on Kamino, & then launch a corodinated assault on Geonosis; just minutes after Mace Windu & the other Jedi arrive from Coruscant? 16: How does a strong willed & principled woman who always seeks the peaceful resolution to any situation, dismiss a homocidal rampage with "to be angry, is to be human"? 17: Having that strong willed & principled woman then marry said mass murderer after knowing him for a few weeks, because of lines like "You are in my very soul tormenting me"? 18: & then having that strong willed woman just die, because "she has lost the will to live"; even though she just gave birth to twins who need her, & she believes there is still goood in Anakin? 19: Leia remembers her "real mother", yet Luke doesn't, even though she dies five minutes after giving birth to both of them? 20: Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn't know R2-D2 or C3-PO? 21: Pretty much every line Obi-Wan Kenobi says in A New Hope is retconed thanks to the movies that come after? (SHRUG) Not to many things all & all. Just most things involving the prequels or the connections between the originals & the prequels.
  13. The reason why you are confused is you are trying to link up stories that are written decades apart, by an artist who hadn't created the material happening prior to the original trilogy yet. Lucas actually started working on the script for Star Wars back in 1973. It was re-written several times before they started making the film. Here is a list of just some of the changes. 1: Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally intended to be General Luke Skywalker. 2: The "Dath Vader" character was origianlly divided between two different characters. One who redeemed himself by helping the heroes, & one that stayed evil. 3: Luke Skywalker was originally Anakin Starkiller. His father was one Kane Starkiller who dies during the course of the story. 4: Han Solo was originally a large green alien, then was changed to a flamboyantly dressed pirate, (read rumors physical appearnce was homage to Coppola) & then finally becomes the Solo we know. However, Solo's character undergoes the fewest changes between versions. 5: In certain earlier versions "Leia" is a demi goddess, in others she is a witch. The sister angle wasn't created until after A New Hope. The rescue of the princess & the romance of the princess by Han Solo was present from early on. 6: The "Vader" character wasn't originally intended to be Luke's (Anakin Starkiller's) father. The plan once the "Vader" characters were combined into one character, was for "Vader", along with "Anakin Starkiller's" father, & "General Luke Skywalker" to have all been friends & have been Jedi together. "Vader" betraying the two of them as described in A New Hope by Obi-Wan, was actually a plot line that emerges in later rewrites of the script before filming ever started. 7: The original trilogy was intended to be one movie. Hence the title STAR WARS, originally The Star Wars. Lucas split it into three films when he realized the film would be to long. The events of The Empire Strikes Back were originally not part of the original script or the various rewrites. The primary events of the story focused on a version of the events that would become the film A New Hope; later rewrites would add elements that would become the film Return of the Jedi. 8: The "R2-D2" & "C3-PO" characters were originally human bureaucrats. They weren't changed to droids until later rewrites. 9: The Ewoks were originally suppost to be Wookiees. Chewbaca was to help the heroes enlist the aid of the Wookiees in assulting the fortress. That just a recap of some of the major shifts, there are quite a few more. The original script was rewritten several times before the film was made. & so Lucas has been backtracking & retconning his own scripts & films since A New Hope. The whole "Vader/father", & the "Leia/sister" angles were created after A New Hope. Which cause the creation of that line we all know so well. So remember I am not wrong, "from a certain point of view".
  14. Could go one of two ways. A) People start whinning about the Glowstick Brigade & how everyone is playing them, balanced needs to be worked on, etcetera, blah, blah, blah. Sith Inquisitor will be the primary nominee then. B) Glowstick Brigade ends up largely played by the inexperienced players, who in turn get crushed by more advanced players who actually understand game mechanics & strategy. Imperial Agent is probably going to be the class of choice there to single out as overpowered.
  15. Ill-equipped to conduct a harassing hit & run campaign against the empire, no. Ill-equipped to engage the Imperial Army & Navy in conventional warfare, yes. It's why I feel one of the best thing the EU did was have the empire still hanging on years after the death of the Sidious & the destruction of the death star. With Sidious, Vader, & Grand Moff Tarkin just to name a few all dead by the end of Return of the Jedi, there was no highest echelon of command as it were. However, you still have massive amounts of military hardware floating around the galaxy. So as stated in some of the earlier EU books you have a bit of an Imperial civil war, while the various warlords, governors, moffs, & admirals try to sort out who is top dog. Meanwhile the New Republic rolls in consolidates, makes treaties, aquires members, etcetera. Simply put, if Thrawn or cloned Sidious was quicker on the ball of getting people in line after the battle of Endor. The empire could have still taken the alliance in an open military engagement.
