  1. Hi all I recently started the game again after many years away, mainly to play with my kids. I wasn't familiar with the classes so I thought I would re-watch the promo videos that Bioware released that compared the classes, the 'Who would win' videos. I like the idea of an imperial agent, the kids are playing light sabre wielders, and enjoy a mobile shooting character. So I watched the youtube video setting the agent against the jedi consular to get a feel for the class. One of the things that was mentioned in that video was that the 'agent wins with preparation', and likes to control the battlefield. What does this mean in game terms? Is there stuff that I need to do with the character before engaging in battles? What do I do to control the battlefield? Is it a character that uses a lots of stuns and stuff to slow down others? Thanks for any help you can offer.
  2. Just to answer some points some people have made.... This discussion isn't about whether books are better than films as an art medium. They have different strengths and weaknesses. However when one is adapted from the other, the new art form tends to be weaker. In other words, films of books tend to be inferior to books, and vice versa. In the case of Star Wars, the reason it was so big was because it did something on the cinema screen that no other movie had done at that time. Audiences were wowed and captured by a new cinematic experience. The books and spin offs comics that followed were not groundbreaking in any way because they were not produced by a visionary or creative genius the way the films were. They were mediocre books that would not appear on a single 'must read' list, unless you were a star wars fan starved of new star wars material. The expanded universe is weak because of this. There is nothing unusual or remarkable about it. I actually agree that the expanded universe is only going to expand as a result of the new films. New films means new spin offs. But the inspiration, and what captures the imagination about Star Wars is what appears on the cinema screen, no one got into Star Wars from reading the books.
  3. Any expanded universe is standing on the shoulders of someone visionary. Whatever else George Lucas has done wrong, he realised a universe onto the cinema screen in a way no one had ever done before and it connected with audiences unlike any fantasy/sci-fi film before. There are few visionaries in the world. It's easy to write a generic story from another's work, and the expanded universe has nothing unique or special about it. If Disney go safe and create a one dimensional repetition of the original films, it will be another cashcow reboot. However, if they get someone unique and talented to write and direct the films, the reboot can breath new life into the Star Wars franchise. No novel or comic written by a competent but unimaginitive writer can do that. A reboot in itself is not a terrible concept. How it is handled is what matters.
  4. Sometimes they are done well and breath new life into a franchise. In some cases they improve it. Look at the new Batman films which are the best ever Batman films. Also the new Star Trek film is arguable the best star trek film ever made. Star Trek the Next Generation was the best star trek tv series and that was a reboot. Casino Royale breathed new life into the tired Bond franchise and by all accounts Skyfall is even better. There are plenty of examples of successful reimagining or improving on a franchise.
  5. It seems Disney intends to take forward Episode 7 with a new storyline. I think this is good news, there will be less of a feeling that a dead horse is being flogged, and hopefully not too many geriatric ex- star wars actors turning up. Although I can see Mark Hamill coming back as the new Obi Wan Kenobi role. What is also good news, is that the ridiculous post ROTJ books will not be made into films. Star Wars is the films, for better or for worse, and devaluing the product to make more money by releasing all these books and comics, is a sad reality of the modern world. We don't need to compound this by turning them into films. The franchise needs a proper reboot, like they achieved with Star Trek, not re-animating second class literature.
  6. i haven't renewed my subscription, it is simply running down, and like many people, time is a precious commodity for me. I am not trying to stir up anything, I haven't been back on SWTOR because the game didn't pull me. But it has been a few months now, I was wondering if anything has changed.
  7. Hi I stopped playing SWTOR because I found the gameplay repetitive, the same things taking place on different planets, and the PvP, which is my favourite part of MMOs, was just endless Huttball games. I do love the Star Wars universe, and I heard that the PvP was going to be significantly improved with world PvP on the cards. What's the general state of the game? Is it worth returning?

    Warzone woe

My favourite part of the game is PvP, and I really enjoy warzones. But I have to say they are less fun now. The majority of teams I face are premades that just roll over my group which are a pug. This really makes the games not as much fun. I dont have the time to regularly commit to a guild, I like dipping into the game when I want to and to play warzones and get battered 80% of the time is not what I was looking for! Pugs and premades should be separated, it cant be that much of a challenge for premade teams, surely they would want to fight one another?
  9. I am an altoholic. Enjoy vigilance guardian, pyrotech powertech, shield vanguard, combat medic commando, sawbones scoundrel, and currently I am playing assassin, too low level to spec yet! None at 50, but having great fun!
  10. How will the assassin/shadow be affected in the next patch?
  11. Hi. Really enjoying the game. But have one slight problem. I play a Jedi knight guardian specced mainly into vigilance and focus, I am level 32. I really enjoy the gameplay because like taunting and playing sometimes as a tank in soresu form. I struggle though to dish out the damage. I have good gear, some PvP gear but I must be missing something because I find myself struggling to out damage people 10 levels below me. I am talking about my warzone performance in terms of damage. Are there any good damage dealing tanks? I was thinking kinetic shadow..... Even when I am in a no tanking stance, I still don't really hit big numbers. Cheers for the help....
  12. I think this whole thread is unnecessarily negative and critical. You are supposed to be part of a team. You don't hate people on your own team! Face palm.
  13. aaaaahhhh! Why does no one tell you these things! So much of playing an MMO is working stuff out yourself or asking other players. thanks so much...
  14. Quick question. Does anyone else find it difficult to pass the ball in Huttball? I keep pressing my hotkey and nothing happens. I have tried doing it after targetting a friend, face a friend, you name it. Occasionally it works after pressing my button about ten times! Mostly I get killed and then shouted out by my teammates! Any ideas if it is something that I am doing wrong, or if its a lag in ability activating problem?
