  1. If you are happy with windows 7 then keep using it for as long as you like. Hell, some people still run windows xp! I've been using windows 8 for a little over a month now (retail) and I simply refuse to go back to windows 7. Win 8 has replaced the OS on all 3 of my computers. One being an all in one touchscreen that I use for school. A good example for me is that I have a LOT of programs on my PC. So many that I had to scroll around to find the program I wanted in the old start menu. Yes, I could have pinned the programs or created shortcuts but I like a tidy desktop screen. Which is my preference. For me, I hate having to Click start, click all programs, scuffle through my list of programs to find my program then click the link. With windows 8 I just hit the windows key, start typing the program name I want and it pops up for me. As other people have mentioned it is relatively easy to get rid of the Metro UI and switch to the traditional win7 desktop mode with a simple net search. Just like anything we all have our likes and dislikes about everything on the planet. What one person says is a nice feature another may say that it is a horrible idea. That is just part of what makes us all individuals. Try things out for yourself and make your own decision based on experience instead of through the opinions of others.
  2. The new system is a bit faster IMO. Instead of the start menu you hit the windows key and then just start typing the program you want. Or just sticky a program to the screen and click it. Very simple once you get away from having to click 'start, all programs, accessories, notepad' for example. Now it's just windows key, type notep and it shows up. The 28 was a typo, should have been 27". It's a dell xps all in one PC that I use for school which runs around 1,500. Though, you can get a ton of touchscreen monitors from 10" up to 60" and they all range from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216893 for how to enable/disable the windows key. I never give any real credibility to people that review things for a living or a paycheck. I'm much more interested in making my own conclusions on products by trying them out. Some reviewers just complain about any tiny thing to hear themselves complain. Some are right some are wrong. But, the only way to find out if you will like a product is to try it out for yourself.
  3. I have seen a couple threads on this in the past with people wondering how SWTOR will work with Windows 8. The short answer: - Windows 8 runs SW:ToR perfectly just as it should and w/o any changes to the system. I have tried both a Win7 to Win8 upgrade and a straight Win8 install (after formatting my HD) and it runs flawlessly. For the longer read and those wanting more info on Windows 8: I have been using RETAIL (not beta) Windows 8 for about a month now. I got it early because of my courses in college. In my time using it I have been quite impressed with Windows 8. Win7 Impressed me as well but Win8 is a much better system. It took a little bit to get used to it but after I got used to the setup and how things work I love it. I won't go back to Win7. I even put Win8 on my old dual core Asus laptop and it runs like XP did if not faster! But, what is the differences between Win7 and Win8? One of the most impressive aspects of Windows 8 is the touchscreen capability built into it. It loaded up and runs perfectly on my touchscreen monitor. The other great thing is that I can use my touchscreen or use a mouse/keyboard or a controller to navigate. It's very versatile and very impressive. Though, Windows 8 is a bit different from windows 7. What makes Win8 different over Win7 is that there is no start menu. The start menu is now a large graphical screen that can be navigated and searched for the progam you want to use. Which is insanely easy. I can hit the Windows Key and type anything and it will show up the programs that are installed which match what I am possibly looking for very fast. I have a 28" touch screen monitor and it's amazing with Win8. But, even just using a mouse and keyboard Win8 is actually easier to move around for applications than any previous Windows version. Win8 is also very fast to load and shutdown. As far as I have seen and compared it barely looses out to linux loading and shutting down. Which is something Microsoft should be proud of. Windows 8 has all the aspects of Windows 7 and more security than any other previous version. With built in anti-virus and enhancements to the networking and security options it surpasses anything Microsoft has done to date. The ONLY fall back on Windows 8 is that very old games/apps won't run on it at all since it is new. But, once Windows 8 is out and public then any game/app maker will be able to make the changes to their programs for them to run on. Which is not the fault of Microsoft, it is the fault of the companies that makes the games to post patches and updates to make them compatible. Hope this helps even one person as I was a die hard winxp fan, that through experience turned into a win7 fan and is now a full time user of win8. And if anyone disagrees I will see you in PvP!
  4. Keep naming them, might spare us from seeing Futura later on.
  5. I have to admit that I really needed a good laugh today and this was absolutely priceless. I'll try to keep this short. Won't happen. TLDR is at the bottom. Personally, I don't care either way about the combat logs. I've been able to look at the damage on my screen to determine how well I am doing just fine. It is my responsibility to be a good player and not anyone else to concern themselves over. That said, since the start of this whole debate over combat logs there have been literally thousands of posts about the topic. Threads have been created, made, re-made, deleted, filled and had to be re-created by mods because they have hit the thread limitations of the forums. An INSANE amount of posts have been made. So many that some have suggested it as being a fact that the 'majority' of players want combat logs. I mean, that is a TON of posts by.. people.. that.. want.. the combat logs. To see everything that they and others are doing right? This, so called, 'majority' of players have the opportunity to vote now. On some random website and what do we see? There are 32 votes who are for and 118 are against traditional combat logs. Yet, there are literally thousands of posts and only 150 people actually voted! I'm sure that I may be the only one who finds this remotely hilarious as this so called 'majority of the players want combat logs!' has been reduced this small number. If we go by the poll and take it seriously: out of the million or so players only 150 people care enough vote. After reviewing said poll I would assume that the majority doesn't even care at all. Yet there sure are thousands of posts by the same people who are clearly assuming that they are the 'majority' of the population. INB4: Not everyone votes and reads the forums. - The heck they don't! Those people that were complaining that they wanted combat logs were constantly participating in the threads which is why they are being added! They are either here and have voted or went back to their old game or they just don't care anymore. TLDR: If we take this poll as being anything accurate as of how the current community feels then BW just wasted a HUGE amount of time and money for 150 people. What a waste of time! That and people should vote more to also help out. hah!
  6. I fitted my char and all my companions in orange gear and I have 400 in every craft through alts. I just craft everything I need anymore. Takes a little time but worth it.
  7. It's going to be interesting to see how this whole ordeal plays out. I just use the /who list to find people. Simple enough but, I wonder what the threads will be like after the LFG utility is released. Anyways, I did want to bring up something. The new LFG utility has to be cross server from one PoV. The problem I've seen the most is that not enough people are flagging themselves LFG to begin with. This could be due to the majority of the game can be done with a companion and or that the game play is more casual, who really knows why. That bit of information got me thinking: If people are just not setting themselves as LFG in the current /who list then what is going to make them set their LFG after a different lfg utility gets implemented? At this point the utility is on its way and no one knows how it is going to affect the community yet. It could be the worst thing to ever happen to the game or it could be the best thing. No one knows or will know until after it is implemented.
  8. Selective hearing is a gift! I don't even hear the guy anymore. Here is an off topic story, I was in a bar and was talking to some new people and I went back to my drink. Then, like 10mins later I catch a chirp of some girl in the background yelling at some guy. I to this day have no idea how long she was just yelling as I was sitting there peaceful and quiet while watching a bit of the news. Which I heard plain as day. What really sent her off was when I looked over to see what was going on and then realized she was yelling at me. Yes, Selective hearing is indeed a gift!
  9. I never played WoW. Considering the community that it has created I'm rather glad I passed on playing that thing. Guess that just made it 3 kinds of people. I'm sure you'll learn about more.
  10. They have been slowly adding more npcs that run around/walk and droids that roll around the areas slowly. Though, From a server aspect not having npcs move around too much can save a ton of bandwidth and free up a lot of cpu both server and client side.
  11. You can do that now. It's in your preferences as an option that you can turn on.
  12. A couple days is a good period to wait before bumping an informative thread.
  13. Always good to see another quit without even posting what it was that he/she/it found disappointing. Good luck in D3 as if you look around I've heard nothing but horror stories about it. D3 sounds great though. I mean who wouldn't love a game that demands that you log in to some obscure service and that the best gear in the game is reserved for those who are willing to pay for it with real money. Good luck on that! You didn't like 1 class out of the 16? Shame you missed the other 15 of them.
  14. Just a suggestion which is why it is here in the suggestions forums. I would like to suggest that the forums have a 1 post per 24hr per person limitation placed on them. Why? It will cut way down on people's posting over and over and over and hopefully induce more constructive posts. If people know that they can only post 1x a day they may be more apt to posting something that really matters rather than something that does not. The restriction would also greatly reduce the stress on the mods of the forums having to watch over everyone like they have been as well.
  15. Contents: - Purpose. - Never Used the /who list before? - What are some of the search terms? * Some Examples on how to use these terms. - Can we combine Search terms? * Some examples on how to combine terms. - Major LFG issue! - Conclusion. Purpose: This is an attempt to help those who are not familiar with the /who list and how to utilize it through their time in-game. This is NOT a discussion about wanting/needed a new LFG/LFD Tool and there is a thread for that already elsewhere. This is not comparing the game's current LFG/Who list feature to any other game and there is a thread for that already elsewhere. This is about how to use the current tool. Never used the /who list before? One of the ways to open up the /who list is to simply type /who in your chat box and hit enter. By default the /who list is not bound to any key and if you choose to do so you can set that to your preference. What are some of the search terms? The /who list is quite robust and very useful when searching for players in many aspects. Utilizing the /who list you can find other players by: 1: Name(s) 2: Level(s) 3: Area/Planet(s) 4: LFG 5: Job(s) 6: Guild(s) Some examples on how to use each of the terms above: 1: Name: You're looking for a player. a: Type the player name into the Search terms and hit enter. 2: Level: You're looking for a group of people by level. a: Type 20-25 or 30-31 or 50 or any other term and hit enter. 3. Area: You want to see who is on what planet. a: Type Hoth or Korriban or Tatooine and hit enter. 4: LFG: You need to search everyone on the server that has their LFG comment set. a: Type LFG into the search box and hit enter. 5: Job: You want to find a specific job. a: Type Juggernaut, or Mercenary or Sage or any other job and hit enter. 6: Guild: You want to see a guild roster. a: Typing the guild name IE: Some guild name and hitting enter Note: This one took some research but I believe that the results were based on who was a member of said guild but I think the results included online and offline players. Everything listed as plural (s) means you can search: Multiple names IE: JohnDoe JaneDoe PaulaDoe Multiple levels IE: 10-15 30-40 1-3 Multiple jobs IE: Sorcerer Mercenary Juggernaut Can we combine Search terms? Yes! Which is one of the best features of the /who list. Some Examples on how to combine search terms: I want to find a level 12-15 sorcerer who is currently looking for a group. - I type: Sorcerer 12-15 LFG and hit search. - The /who lists returns everyone who meets that search criteria. * Note: Here is the hitch! Not everyone sets themselves as LFG so we need to remove the LFG from that search to get more results at this time. I want to find a Sniper who is on Quesh that is near my level which is 40-42. - I type: Sniper 40-45 Quesh - Or: Quesh Sniper 40-45 Let's get a bit more messy. I have multiple characters. A sin (20) a merc(40) and a jugg(50) I want to do a 2+ flashpoint on each of my jobs and I need either a merc(20ish) a jugg(40ish) or a sorc(50) - I search Mercenary Juggernaut Sorcerer 19-20 38-42 50 - I get the results for everyone of each job for those levels. Note: Though, you can sort by job, class, level etc by clicking the appropriate header, this can generate a lot of results so keep it as precise as you can. Major LFG Issue: Actually there is only one major issue that I have seen utilizing the current system which is that most people are not setting their LFG comment or checking it. Sometimes our comments get set to just "lfg" erasing what we had in there originally. Conclusion: While the current LFG/Who list may not be entirely what some people "want, expect, believe that it should be" it is still a very useful tool for finding people as is. It's a shame when I see people that are shouting LFG/LFM anywhere and I ask them if they searched for people on other planets to help them along and they have no idea how.
