Considering the Star Wars universe has podracing in it, why not maybe integrate it into the game? It would be a one against all race and people can have the chance to build up and customize their own racers.

-Separating it for 8 player races (Light against Light or Light against Dark players)
-Several options for where the races can be held already..

-Separate racers by tiers. (Underground style for lower rated podracers and tourniments when they improve themselves, those who put more customization into their racer would get ranked up for better races, payouts, chances at better equipment for the winner.)
- To keep the "newbies" from playing into the higher tiers before they are ready, make certain equipment available only by wins (like 1st - 3rd place gets rewards)
-OR-
Create a experience system similar to Valor in pvp that only beyond a certain rank may they move up in tiers.
-Allow players to have a "practice area" with no rewards or anything as a part of it so they can learn the quality of their racers.
~Allows for customization appearances for pod racers, and possibly design so it can be purchased in cartel market.
~Crafters can make the basic modifications for racers to improve their power / ability. (Best rated gear being available by race wins only)
