  1. I actually unsubbed prior (I have maybe two weeks left) because I wasn't playing enough to justify paying at the moment. I unsubbed with the intention of coming back when I was able to really play again. Now, I may or may not re-sub depending. If everything remains the same and F2P is just limitations in game with a cash shop full of purely fun vanity ****, then I will sub again in a heartbeat. If I can buy gear (with stats) and mods or anything that gives folks with a blank check a hand up on me for being a subscriber, then I won't bother. So far it looks as if they're doing this the right way though.
  2. TOR has been a success, overall. But the dead server complaint is valid. There are too many servers. Hell, there are nearly as many servers here as WoW has...and WoW host nearly 10x the population. I love TOR and have very few issues with the game (Dailies take too long and feel too mandatory for example), but a consolidation of servers definitely needs to be done. I've not been logging into TOR as of late since D3 is out, but I plan on coming back once I burn out there (which after 2 acts into Nightmare....is starting to happen ). I'm looking forward to 1.3 and hope the LFG system and server transfers help the problem some. I don't think the game is in as bad a place as the more vocal players seem to think though. (Opinions are opinions however)
  3. As someone who has not been playing SWTOR as of late due to the fun that is D3, I will be back. D3's extended shelf life is really limited to a small number of people, most will play through the 4 acts, and maybe through nightmare difficulty. Most will not bother with Hell or Inferno and will go back to TOR/WoW/Rift/etc.
  4. I enjoy the VO a lot. It brings more to the table for me. It definitely makes it less boring to play alts. Do I use my spacebar to skip stuff? I skip daily dialogue, yes. That's about it though. The dialogue is slightly different depending on class and choices, and those slight differences keep it fun for me.
  5. There are two camps here and they will not agree, EVER. Camp 1 wants the old style of grinding mob kills to level and devoting lots of time to doing it. They like taking months or longer to reach level cap while still playing 4 to 6 hours a day. They like getting together with however many players as it takes to take down raid bosses that are all out in the world and not in an instance. They like penalties for dying and failure. Camp 2 wants to experience more story and wants the story to pull them in a sense of progression. They want to be able to spend and hour a day or less and be able to reach level cap without it taking years. They want to be able to play solo or in a group depending on what they're feeling at the time. They like bosses and the like in instances because they can take it on when they choose vs. having to hope the boss is up when they can get a group together to do so. They don't like losing levels/xp for dying. I can honestly understand both camps' reasoning and sympathize with both. I generally find myself in the second camp, but there are things about the first that I like. Camp 2 is, for all intents and purposes, the silent majority while Camp 1 tends to be the vocal minority. Unfortunately no game will appeal to both in full (WoW tried hard to pull it off).
  6. Yep, you could easily do the EQ grindfest in SWTOR. Commendations drop from mobs, credits drop from mobs, orange, purple, blue, and green gear all drop from mobs. You can heroic mob spawn camp to your heart's content. I'm sorry there isn't a game like the hardcore and old school EQ folks want, I really am. I don't begrudge you your wish to play the game you used to, how it was played. But this game was designed with a different philosophy in mind. The Kickstarter option really is a good one, but you need to find a developer willing to work with you as well (or find like-minded folks who have the skills). It isn't perfect, but it is a great game IMO. I fully agree with the linearity complaint and I hope that it is something they expand on going forward. Will I last in TOR for as long as I've played WoW? It's too early to tell, but for now I feel like I'm getting my money's worth.
  7. Back in my day the only raid boss was Trogdor, and no one could ever beat him.
  8. Back in my day... I could not get ye flask, and the only exits were NORTH, SOUTH, and DENNIS.
  9. Honestly, I played EQ for a while and just couldn't do it. Maybe it was because I worked full time, had a young child as a single father, and went to school full time as well. But when WoW released, I tried that and was able to stick with that for 7 years now (though the last two have been very spotty). Maybe EQ was fun if you had the time, but games like SWTOR appeal to the folks who want to be able to feel epic yet don't have a lot of time. As a previous poster stated, most people just don't enjoy sitting at level 15 and logging in to do nothing but grind mobs for their hour or so a day or less. I agree that SWTOR could use a bit more open questing, maybe even branching class quests so there is more than one route even there, but going back to EQ-style gaming just doesn't sound fun.
  10. All in all the game is a lot of fun. But there are issues. Are they game-breaking? For me no, but for some yes. Server populations are being addressed, which is good. Would it be nice if they did it faster? Naturally. But I don't claim to know what their infrastructure looks like and can only assume it's taking some work to get it perfected (Yes, I'm aware they already are doing it with APAC). The LFG tool will be nice, I'm a fan of it, but I don't feel it's exclusion is the end of the world. I'm on my 3rd character (50 Corruption Sorcerer, 50 Immortal Juggernaut, 21 Arsenal Mercenary) and not only are the class quests fun, my 3rd time through the non-class quests is equally enjoyable. Sure I spacebar through some of it, but I enjoy the slightly differing responses based on class and my replies. I think alot of people were expecting a WoW-killer (which is stupid, since the only game that will kill WoW....is WoW, but these aren't the forums for that discussion). And they're upset it isn't. Yes, Bioware dumped $300 million into it. A huge chunk of that went to voice acting, which, IMO is great! Features will come in time, just enjoy what you have, or find something you do enjoy. It is, after all, a game.
  11. Odd, I'm on Legacy Character number 2 and skip all bonus series (not bonus missions) and group content. I've been leveling along quite naturally. Not sure what to tell you.
  12. Ok, so I have played EQ, DDO, Lineage, CoH, CO, LotRO, Vanguard, and WoW. WoW being the only one I stuck to for very long (as in I'm still subscribed and have been playing since the beginning of Vanilla). I picked up TOR because I love Bioware games and KotOR was an amazing game. I am enjoying the game very much and will continue to subscribe for some time. But I understand why some don't. I think some of the bug complaints are exaggerated and there is an unreasonable amount of vitriol being spewed at Bioware and EA, but there are a good number of people with valid issues. I have 2 level 50's at the moment, and they are now sitting there while I work on my 3rd. At 50 there isn't much to do since server pops are so low. For folks like me who love the **** out of the story, this is fine....for now. Once I have 8 50's I will probably be changing my tune here some. But I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now and will simply say that no MMO I've played had everything right away. Yes, some of these things are considered standard and should have been included. It wasn't, they're working on getting it in, harping about it not being there in the beginning does nothing but make you look bad. At 50 all you really have is PVP, FP's, OPs, and Dailies. If you hate PvP period, like myself, that's out. If you like PvP, the low server pops mean long queues. FP's are great, but again, low server pops make finding groups harder; Ops have the same problem. Dailies, unfortunately require a lot more time to complete than I have (and with the cost of the vendor items it really does feel like you HAVE to do every daily on all 3 planets to get anything). TLDR: The game is a blast, but it definitely needs some work. The leveling experience is very well done, but at 50 you're left with nothing to do, primarily due to low server populations.
  13. No, Will I play less in May? Absolutely, Diablo 3 is coming out...I will be playing the hell out of it....then I will get bored and put it aside and work on my TOR characters some more. Ultimately I will still play both games, and maybe, if MoP fixes my issues with WoW, I'll pick it up again (instead of paying for it and only hopping on to help guildies every now and again). If 1.3 isn't out till May I'm perfectly fine with it, I'd rather it be as bug free as possible and not released just to appease the instant gratification crowd.
  14. No, it should not go F2P. While I've had a bit of fun playing DDO, LotRO, CO, etc. as a distraction from WoW in the past, I never took them seriously. Why? Because the Free part only gives you so much and you ultimately end up paying more than you do with a subscription. I'll pay the low price of $15/mo to have access to everything I need to progress.
  15. I would say that it is pretty certain that the classes will get additional story going forward (in xpacks I would guess). As for more classes, the current ones are based off of various Star Wars archetypes. I won't say they won't, but keep in mind, if the current status quot is planned on being maintained, there needs to be a mirror for whichever archetype they add. I can't think of anything off the top of my head to add (not that there isn't something I'm missing) as I can place just about all the SW characters I'm familiar with in one of the existing Advanced classes. Additional planets are pretty much a given going forward, unless they just open up additional higher level areas on existing planets. As for mini-games, I would hope so. The more things one can do in game helps keep subscribers.
