  1. They already said you can unlock races with credits in 1.2, probably trying to remove the glut from slicing at launch.
  2. Get it. 1) Except for extreme edge cases, you're not going to get your account hacked and your items sold off. Plus putting the test to csr whether they will fix it. 2) With guild banks in 1.2, no sane guild is going to allow withdrawals for a person without one. I can't believe the only places I ever see key fobs is on mmos and not actual important places, like banks.
  3. As a programmer, things are always changing. You throw down your code, and it may work great. Then you start adding things to it, and you add more stuff which makes it less great, and you really wish you knew you were going to have to add something or other when you first wrote it because now you have all sorts of ugly code wrangling to make it work. Eventually it works, but is not the best way to do things. Inevitably, the more and more that is added and taken away from a routine or system, the more and more convoluted it becomes, you get to the point you have to go back and rewrite your code to stop doing redundant or time consuming extra tasks that don't need to be there. But it's a huge undertaking, because in that time other pieces of code now are dependent on what you have already done, and by fixing it, you may break other code. This problem multiplies rapidly the more people that work on the code base because you no longer have the benefit of at least having been the first to write it in the first place and having an idea of how it was supposed to have worked. So when people talk about optimizing, they are talking about rewriting the code for performance vs just getting the job done.
  4. Could be better file IO handling. A major performance increase if you look is to set up a ramdrive for your swtor temp directory. Maybe win 8 handles caching better.
  5. Heroics are huge xp gains. That's where you are falling behind probably. Not only do they have the turn in, but each mob is worth several of the little guys. Also, if you aren't logging out in a cantina or your ship, you're missing rest XP. Might not be obvious to non-mmo veterans. You also get bonus xp for being in a group. Partner with someone. It really is hard to not outlevel. But it seems like you are skipping past anything thats not solo. I'm at the beginning of Belsavis (41-44) and i'm 46. I've been outleveled on every planet. I only ran like 4 flashpoints before I stopped altogether. Played maybe 4 warzones to try them out. I do space though, for the money to feed crafting. I was hoping things would level as each level required more xp, but no luck.
  6. MMO server merging is the sign of a failing MMO. So they rather keep up the illusion than face reality. I'm on Swiftsure, so we still have queues, but only like a half hour on peak time only for weekends. (Compared to 4 hours at launch). But I was surprised the long list of "Standard" servers I saw this weekend.
  7. If it's ANYTHING, it's cheap power supplies feeding bad power. Your power supply is the most important piece of equipment in your box capable of destroying everything else in it. Yet people will spend $30 on a chinese import that weighs about 4oz. Goes for all off the shelf systems for the most part as well.
  8. This is silly. Any modern video card will throttle the gpu if it overheats to prevent damage. I can't even remember when they started that. My guess is on cards that can't run this game in the first place. Same with the cpu. There's enough legitimate problems with ToR without making up false ones. If it does burn out, it's because someone adjusted the voltage to a level that was inappropriate. People who OC should know the risks and accept the possibility they will fubar it.
  9. Half the money and an excellent case. Have 2 of them. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153
  10. It's most likely the server handing off your character to another server. I notice load times change drastically depending on what time of day it is. If you look it's probably slower at peak hours. That's why the bar zips across and seems hang for a few seconds towards the end. Still, it's usually under 20 seconds max most of the time. I only really get annoyed when forced to shuttle from the planet to orbital to ship.
  11. Try rebooting. It did that and cleared it.
  12. I ordered this rig for my wife. 1 x ($43.99) MEM 4Gx2|G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 1 x ($129.99) HD 500G|WD WD5002AALX % - OEM 1 x ($124.99) MB MSI|P67A-C43 (B3) P67 LGA1155 R 1 x ($219.99) CPU INTEL|CORE I5 2500K 3.3G 6M R Purchased on newegg. Coupled with her existing GTX 460 and existing power supply/case it was $500. At 1680x1050 she gets 50-70fps fairly consistently. Couple with a GTX 560ti for a couple hundred more and you should be golden for whatever you want to do.
  13. 1) People will never do something like tagging their server in the title consitently. 2) You still have to page through dozens of pages to find stuff related to them. Forums are already a game of bump the most active threads to the top, and bury everything else. It's like you guys work to make poor interfaces. The UI, GTN, the Forum.
  14. In a perfect world, you really should just get a new mobo/cpu/memory. Being imperfect, you can probably spend a bit to get minimal performance increase. Definately add the stick of memory, It'll cut down on the paging to the hard drive which would be a huge help. Also, you may want to consider trying Readyboost if you have usb 2.0, not sure if it lives up to the hype, but it would be cheap and something worth trying. Just make sure the usb drive is fast. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff356869.aspx
