  1. I just started and made a Madness Sorc because I love the feel of the class, but have been really put off by how the community seems to view any DPS sorc. How does a 10k parse sit with the rest of the DPS classes? I tend to play my classes at a min/max level, what tools will I need to accomplish this? (set bonuses or other) Thanks!
  2. Let me preface by saying I would love to see harder solo content, however that's just not what this game is about. If you want hard content you need to do the group and raid content. Your question answered itself, "story content" is just that, content that is designed to give ANY skill level of player access to the story. It is not meant to be challenging in any way (albeit just enough to make you feel like you are doing something, and not just skipping from cut-scene to cut-scene).
  3. Sounds like Harbringer is going to be the place for us to be. So the vast majority of the game will be solo then? That's not going to work very well for our core team that thrive on hard group content .... How much of the game is actually group focused? Because if it's just a couple days worth of solo story mode, followed by group/raid, flashpoints/operations then I can deal with that ...
  4. My friend and I (and possibly a few others) are going to start playing SWTOR this week. I am looking for advice on what server to start on. I am hoping to find a high population PvE focused server that has a healthy end game, and maybe enough players to group with through the leveling dungeons. Another quick question, but as we were messing around earlier this week we got to level 30ish as a duo and were steamrolling content, even the flashpoints and heroic+4's were a cakewalk. This was a bit disheartening to us as we were hoping for at least some group focused content. I am sure end game flashpoints and obviously the operations will be challenging, but are we doomed to play through a solo game as a group and one shot everything until max level? Also, how much of this game is ONLY playable solo? Thanks for all the help!

  6. Realizing now you said level 27 ... At that level chances are the DPS that are pulling aggro are twinks in very good top-end-for-their-level gear. Let them tank, just try and keep up. They can tank the bosses just as well as you can at that level (more or less). Anyone that cannot will not likely pull aggro from you.
  7. I had similar issues on my first Powertech. I used to pull my hair out because I could not hold everything on every pull. It was not until I started grouping with some friends that they told me to just focus on the biggest baddest guy in each pull and hold him and the few around him and let the DPS worry about the stragglers. Any normal, or strong type mobs can be burned down extremely quickly by a DPS, usually within a few GCDs. Don't fret the small stuff, worry about what could tear your group apart if it gets loose. If it's all weak just run in and play DPS and don't worry about tanking, the most important thing is to make sure your healer is comfortable, but still has something to do (meaning if they are just standing around DPSing, you need to pull faster). Charge, double flame sweep, flame thrower/firestorm when you get the proc, then fill in with your single target stuff as needed. Make liberal use of grapple (take the passive that reduces the cooldown). I cannot stress enough to just relax and let the DPS go hog wild. They want to charge in and kill things, and the best thing you can do is let them. Just make sure the mobs that can actually harm them (elites and champions) are under your control. My wife is my healer 100% of the time and even in her crap gear she can keep the group alive with ease if I let the norm and strong mobs run around while I play with the elites.
  8. ZOMG I knew it! ... Maybe Forbes will do an article on this juicy piece of information next! SW:TOR Targetting Individual Players! by Paul Tassi: "FlippinFlapJack may only be the first in a series of direct insidious, and intentional personal attacks on innocent people! Harrassment charges may apply, Bioware is DOOOOMED!" ... or perhaps the dev team didnt have an ADHD kid in their office to spam click a mouse button while testing the market to see if there would be any negitive outcomes. Either way OP, nice catch.
  9. Mmm camp the vendor ... Good Idea! Finally a good reason for people to open-world PvP ... I actually kinda dig this.
  10. I prefer the Vanguard/Bounty Hunter tank class, but many people seem to think it is a rather easy class to play. If you are looking fir diffuculty then I would suggest you try a Shadow/Assassin. They require quite a bit more concentration due to the various defensive cooldowns and such. Guardian/Juggernaut are in a pretty strong place right now from what I understand. They are also the inbetween tank class. They are more passively survivable than Shadows/Assassins, but require more maintenance than the Vanguard/Bounty Hunter. My personal preference would be to go either Assassin, or Bounty Hunter ... but thats just me, I never really got the feel for Juggernauts. "What is the most useful tank?" To be honest a player who takes the time and perfects their game will be equally useful no matter which tank class they pick. I would suggest starting with whichever one looks the more attractive to you and get them to the end of chapter 2. If you are not diggin the playstyle, pick a different one.
  11. I just recently started running Operations, and I have to say I was quite nervous. As you stated, Tanks are generally the leaders of the groups, so going into an area I am unfamiliar with and being expected to lead is a bit nerve racking. I ended up going onto Youtube and Torhead and learning about each boss fight. I then used my programmable keyboard to pre-type in instructions for each phase of each boss fight. I told the raid I would be giving the warnings and to watch for my messages mid-fight and it went very well. This may be a bit overkill, and most people likely do not own a programmable keyboard, but it sure worked well for me!
  12. I have only played a Powertech: Shield Tech. I actually have 2 level 50 Powertech tanks for raid lockouts and such. I consider the Powertech to be quite flashy because of all the cool fire effects they have. Specifically the skill Flame Sweep. Since Bioware changed the talent tree a while back to give us 2 heat free Flame Sweeps after a Jet Charge it almost looks like a fiery spinning top! Death From Above is also pretty cool looking! Raising up into the air above the rest of your group and raining down missles, then jet charging to the enemies before you land back on the ground, then spamming Flame Sweep 2-3 times, followed up by a Flame Thrower is quite impressive to see imo. I also enjoy watching Shadow tanks, something about the double light saber look that just oozes awesomness! Unfortunatly after playing a Powertech for so long I just cant seem to get into any of the other tank classes ... got a Jugg, and Assassin to 30s/40s and always go back to my BH! EDIT: Also wanted to mention that having a Charge, AND a Pull (Jet Charge, and Grapple) really gives you a lot of control over any given fight. I think I have had more compliments over mob control in FP PUGs then anything else. LOS pulling, Grappling ranged mobs, using Jet Charge on Cooldown to maximize the use of the 2 free Flame Sweeps. It just seems so much simplier to control fights as a Powertech.
  13. There are quite a few instances that are just fine as they are, but increasing the range in some instances would reduce the amount of content skipping, which is the point of this thread.
  14. I have been enjoying SWTOR since beta, I have played through multiple story lines, and brought several people to the game who would not normally play an MMO, but now that we have decided to try our hands at some end-game content, the game has gone to the dump. 75%+ of the PUGs we get insist that we Spacebar through content, then as if that is not enough, also insist that we skip over 50-60% of the mobs to go right to the bosses, in some cases even skipping the bosses themselves! A simple solution would be to remove the ability to spacebar through cutsceens, or to add an option to the Group Finder to only look for players that WANT to skip content. Another idea would be to increase the aggro radius of mobs, or remove some of the additional pathing in some instances. A prime example would be the Flashpoint, "The Battle of Ilum". There is an entire section you can skip by running up a hill and skipping along a railing, if you go to far out you get the exhaustion warning, but if you stay close enough to the railing you can skip a GREAT deal of the mobs and get right to the first boss ... who by the way is ALSO skippable. Please, for the love of the game, fix these issues, it is causing a great deal of stress between your players. On one side you have the people who have been through the Flashpoints 100s of times and just want to get to the end as fast as humanly possible, on the other you have your long term dedicated players who are suffering beacuse they are expected to skip content that may not have ever even seen!
