  1. This guide is awesome. Thank you so much for this! I'm not a new player, but a returning player. I primarily played at launch for some time, but haven't really played in years. A lot has changed in the game since I last really played, so this guide is beyond helpful and has helped me to find all the answers I was looking for, and then some. I am having a great time getting into the game again. One thing I really, really wish I could do was somehow have the option to turn XP off. I'm not the type of player who cares about speed leveling or rushing through content. It seems the leveling speed has greatly increased since I last played and I am outleveling content way too fast making everything seem way too trivial. I'm almost level 16 and just left Korriban, when I should be finishing up Droumand Kass, a bit of a turnoff to the game but trying to ignore it. Got off topic a bit there, but thanks again for all the work you put into this guide! It's truly great!
  2. I figured out my problem. I feel quite silly lol. As I said, it's been years since I had played. I was left clicking on the datacrons and matrix shard. So it seems all I needed to do was right click! Lol, really do feel silly but glad I figured it out. Thanks for trying to help though . I thought I had some odd bug or something and it was driving me nuts.
  3. Hmm, I knew it couldn't be anything to do with legacy like I kept reading seeing as this is a new character on a new server and new legacy. I don't get the message you said, just unable to click on them at all. Thanks for the response and it wouldn't hurt to try what you suggested. I will probably do that later. It's just driving me nuts not being able to complete the planet lol. I have done everything else.
  4. Hi all, recently returned to the game after not playing for years. I primarily played during launch for some time and have only played very sporadically (next to none), since. I know a lot has changed since I really played and I have done a lot of searching and asked in the game about my issue but haven't been able to get a definitive answer, so here I am. I decided to make a new Sith Sorcerer to start a character from scratch since it had been so long since I played. I am not able to click on any of the two datacrons on Korriban or the matrix shard on the planet. I did get these years ago on another character, but this was on a different server and a different legacy. I keep coming across people saying to check your legacy and that these are now shared across your legacy. These datacrons are not showing up in my legacy that I have gotten them. Again, different server and different legacy so I didn't think they would. They are not showing up in my codex for Korriban or in the achievements. It all points to me never getting these, yet, I am completely unable to click on any of these on the planet. I am not the type of player who likes to rush and speed level. I am a bit of a completionist when it comes to games. I enjoy finding everything in the game, doing all the quests, etc. This is where the most part of my enjoyment comes in games for me personally. So the fact that I am unable to actually complete Korriban is a bit frustrating. Anyone have any idea what could be going on here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edited to add: This has been an ongoing issue since I returned to the game about a week ago. I have relogged and restarted the client numerous times, so this doesn't seem to be a bug that can be fixed in this manner for me. Just thought I would throw that out there since I know that many bugs can be resolved in this way.
  5. I'm going to do a bit of a comparison here: For example, as we all know, World of Warcraft has been dumbed down quite a bit as well over the years. But, the players are given some options without having to disable core mechanics of the game to tailor the game more to their personal play styles and preferences. There is heirloom armor that levels your character much faster and also makes your character quite a bit more powerful as opposed to the player who just uses gear from quests, dungeons, crafting, etc. The armor also levels with the character. I personally choose not to use the heirloom armor because I hate steamrolling over content in levels and difficulty. The heirloom armor is not a core mechanic of the game like companions are in SWTOR. Heirlooms are a convenience for players who prefer easier leveling in speed and ease in difficulty. So there I have my choice. I choose not to buy or equip heirloom armor and I am happier. Many, many players do but in big part due to the xp increase it gives you. I don't like outleveling content at the blink of an eye or doing gray quests where I one shot everything in site. The option given in WoW is you can actually disable your xp for 10 gold. You can then therefore pay 10 more gold to turn it back on when you like. I like these options. I like these options because it gives the player choices to play the game more to their liking. You want to speed level, you can do it by running dungeons non stop and having heirlooms. You don't want to speed level? Don't equip heirlooms and just play the game at your own pace. There isn't a war among players (to the best of my knowledge) about these choices. You want to level to 100 in less than a week? You can do it. Or, if like myself, you are going for the loremaster title and achievement and are actually having fun stopping to smell the roses for once and just enjoying the journey along the way, you can disable your xp to avoid outleveling content which can make the content less fun for players like myself. My point in this comparison is that things can be done in a way where a game company can cater to more than one type of player. It doesn't have to be going from one extreme to the next. WoW isn't a hard game to play these days either. The content is much easier than it was when I first started playing it 10 years ago. But, at least Blizzard has given it's players some choices so that they have satisfied the hardcore gamer along with the casual gamer. The gamer who prefers more of a challenge and the gamer who prefers everything very easy. It can be done all. I really do like SWTOR. The story in this game is amazing and a lot of fun to play through. But it was also meant to be an mmo, not just an rpg like other Bioware titles. And for the sake of it being an mmo, maybe Bioware could at least consider adding some choices to their game like some other games have in place that will not take away from the core mechanics of the game, but will add that balance a bit more to satisfy multiple play styles. Just a thought.
  6. Again, you are asking the players themselves to disable core aspects of the game and this is somehow rational logic to you? In reality here though, this little companion battle is ridiculous. It is up to the developer to somehow find that balance, NOT the player's. Now granted, it is virtually impossible to please everyone but I do believe Bioware is trying to find that balance. They realized the companions were way too OP so they nerfed them. Chances are they are still striving for that balance and will give them a slight buff in the future. That is just my guess by the way.
  7. You hit the nail on the head with that comment completely.
  8. By the way. I originally quit the game before the legacy feature was added so I don't have any legacy perks. I started with a fresh character for fun and set Khem Val to dps, NOT healer. I made a Sith Sorcerer and the game had been dumbed down to such an extent I made it a week before I just couldn't bring myself to log on anymore. Everyone always whining about the WoW carebears. Well, I got news for ya. WoW is now more challenging and requires more of a brain to play than what this game turned into. So yes, I completely welcome this companion nerf.
  9. I find it hilarious how you seem to think you know what you are talking about, when you obviously don't have a clue. But allow me to answer your question myself instead of you answering it for me. Your argument is the most ridiculous one made yet regarding the companion drama. Have you even played the game??? A core aspect of this game revolves around....think about it for a minute. That's right, companions! So much of this game revolves around your companion that it's one of the reasons I originally quit about 9 months or so after release. Don't get me wrong, having companions are cool but a lot of this game revolves around them in many ways. So, your solution is for people to choose not to use a core aspect of the game to avoid the game from being so ridiculously easy I can just sit bored out of my mind watching a screen, twiddling my thumbs without having to give hardly any thought about how to even learn to play my class. I'm sorry, but what a ridiculous suggestion. If what I have to do to not be bored out of my mind playing a game in extreme easy mode is disable a core feature of the game, well, that is just extremely poor game design in my opinion. You were way off the mark in your assumptions by the way and how about do us all the favor of allowing us to speak for ourselves instead of sprouting out assumpions.
  10. You didn't read my whole post if seems CombatLord. I am a very casual player myself. A very busy, single mother with very little time for games. But, when I do have the time I do personally still enjoy a challenge. I know that with my casual playstyle I may never be raiding or doing any hardcore pvp in any mmo. Here's the difference between me and many other gamers it seems. I am 100% ok with that! I don't expect to be able to get the best rewards or gear if I don't put forth the time and effort that others have put forth to accomplish such things in the game. Many years ago I was hardcore into gaming. So I have been on both sides. I just play these games casually on occasion to just relax and have some fun. Will I get the best gear the game has to offer? No, and I don't care. Am I going to get everything hardcore gamers are going to get? Again, no and I don't care. But even though I am such a casual player these days I just can't seem to bring myself to get any enjoyment whatsoever out of a game that takes 0 skill or challenge to play. That is just me personally.
  11. I might be misunderstanding your post, so if I am I apologize in advance. But what I am getting from it is that you are comparing mmo gamers who want some type of challenge to playing an rpg on difficult or extreme mode? If so, that is a ridiculous comparison. Noone said they wanted to play a game where "you will die if an NPC looks at you". I have played those kinds of rpg's before by the way. I think what you are missing is that many gamers don't want a game where we sit back, press one button and win. We actually want to have to know and learn how to play our class by using our abilities in different fights and situations. I don't know, where we actually have to use our brain and overcome a battle on occasion. I personally am not looking for some hardcore game where I can't get to level 3 without dying repeatedly. I played an mmo like that years ago, can't remember the name right now but it was pretty intense. May have been Darkfall actually. Anyways, I think many of us are very sick of all the mmo's repeatedly dumbing down their games to such an extent that a 6 year old could play. Make the game a bit interesting by adding some challenge. Where I need to know how to actually play my class well to pass some areas of the games or missions for example. Seriously all, there has to be some balance between hardcore game play and so easy a dog can press a button and win game play. And in my opinion, dungeons, raids, heroics, etc. should never be easy or soloable. If you want to play the easy content in a game, then just stick to that easy content. But how about we leave a challenge where the rewards reflect the effort put forth. And yes, again, I am a very casual player by the way.
  12. Not speaking for him, but can speak for myself. My companion was set to dps role. Thank you very much
  13. Same here. I resubbed right before KOTFE launched and didn't even last a week before I stopped playing. I myself am a very casual player but I don't get any enjoyment out of playing a game that gives me zero challenge. I personally don't understand what can be fun about going in and one shotting everything to top level. Almost all I had to do was use death field and almost every mob would drop dead in the encounter instantly. And that was before I even got Khem Val. After getting my companion, the level of difficulty was so dumbed down that I just couldn't bear playing the game. Everyone laughs and makes fun of WoW players for playing a dumbed down, easy mode game. Well all! Meet the game that exceeded the dumbing down and is even more easy mode than WoW. This game. The new generation of gamers is going to be not only the death of this game, but all mmo's in my opinon. Everyone wants instant self gratification in games without having to put forth any effort whatsoever in achieving any goal at all. It reminds me of spoiled children who throw tantrums when things don't go their way. Heck, my 5 year old acts more mature. And nope, not exaggerating on that. If you all want a game where you don't have to do anything but press a single button to beat it, great! There are many, many free to play Korean mmo's out there that will do that for you! You can just sit back, relax and watch the game do it for you. I do wish you all would stop ruining mmo's for the rest of us. It's this type of new gamer that is ruining mmo's today. I am glad that BioWare nerfed companions. I am glad that Blizzard made it so their players actually had to put some effort into the game to earn flying for WoD. Keep it up guys! Take your games back and stop listening to the self entitled gamers before the death of mmo's come completely. As for this game, this new nerf to companions will have me giving the game a try again.
  14. This exactly. I couldn't agree more with this statement. A friend got me back into the game recently. I have played this game since the first closed betas. Pre-ordered, all that good stuff. All in all this is a great game that I have had a lot of fun playing on and off over the last 3 years or so. I was really looking forward to getting back into the game. Since it had been some time since I had last played I wanted to start fresh with a new character for fun. I am very quickly getting turned off and it's disappointing. I have actually considered unsubbing just to get rid of some of this extreme extra xp I get. I have always been a subscriber to this game, since the beginning. Not everyone wants to speed to top level and skip all the content. Some of us actually enjoy the content along the way to top level. And not to mention some of us actually enjoy somewhat of a challenge. Before anyone starts about the new level sync system, I will say this. When I first came back to the game and saw how fast I was leveling I wasn't originally overly bothered by it because I had yet to really see first hand how the new level sync system would work. After playing a bit I don't see this working very well. Was this honestly what was intended? I was level 15 when I completed Korriban. I of course was synced down to level 12 to where the missions posed 0 challenge to me at all. More times than not I just needed to hit death field only once to wipe out a whole encounter. With Khem Val I easily did the heroics solo. Again, way too easy with 0 challenge. Even though I was experiencing what felt like a now very dumbed down game I still had hope. I got to the Fleet. Oh what's that? I outleveled the ability to queue for Black Talon? Awesome! It just keeps getting better. I had just turned level 15 and did the mission about crew skills. I chose a crew skill and spoke to my trainer where I received almost 30k xp for doing nothing. Yeah, easily leveled me to 16. I can understand that as games age and add content some adjustments and changes need to be made. It's common to accelerate the leveling process. But this is just to the extreme for me. I am not having fun. I do not have fun steam rolling everything. I do not have fun having 0 challenge in game play. I do not have fun outleveling content at such a crazy speed. I think a great solution to this would be to at least please, please, please give us the option to turn off xp. If that was done I would gladly be a subscriber to this game for some time I'm sure. At this rate I don't see myself sticking around much longer. It just isn't fun for me personally. If we were given at least the option to turn off xp ( I don't care if you have to pay to do it like WoW has) I think that would be a nice balance. For all of those who just want to quickly get to 65, the game would be how it is. But for those of us who actually want to enjoy the content in this game without outleveling it so quickly, this would be a nice gesture. Many games have this in place and have for many years. Everquest 2 and WoW are two that pop in my mind and I know there are more. Edit: And before anyone mentions it. No, I am not using any xp boosts of ANY KIND. I destroy the ones you receive from quests. I don't have any of the boosts from my legacy, etc. Since I have always hated accelerated xp I have always opted out of using it in any game I have ever played. So before someone tells me to stop using any of it, there ya go. I don't, never have and never will.
