  1. That is not how power works. This is going to be a simplified explanation, if you want more, you will need to invest a lot of time. The equation for damage has three components, although, sometimes a part is not used (coefficient of 0 for that part). A base number multiplied by a min and max coefficient, for the min and max numbers you can get (they can be the same.) Your primary damage range (to give a min and max on this too) multiplied by a coefficient. And bonus damage/healing multiplied by a coefficient. (Usually, but not always, tech/force are heavier on bonus and range/melee are heavier on primary damage.) These are added together, which makes them separate, and in no way dependent upon each other so it is easy to pull out the bonus damage (power) part. You need the bonus coefficient for every ability you use (torhead.com has them, I don't know if they have been updated for 3.0, search for the ability, click effect details, conveniently, it is the coefficient called "coefficient") . Then do a lot of parses, find out the average number of those coefficients per second, multiply that by .23*(the change in power in question) to get the change in dps. For example, if you had an ability that took one gcd with a coefficient of 3 and fire it over and over, you would have 2 coefficients per second and, to use your numbers above, that would be a loss of 334 dps, or 13.4%. I had a very long and in depth group of posts, with a lot of discussion to make sure everything was being considered, about power vs. crit during 2.x on mmo-mechanics before it went away, iirc, my coefficints-per-second was a little over 3. Using your numbers that would be a loss of over 500 dps, over 20%! There is a discussion on using accuracy augments to hit closer to 110% so you get more surge/alacrity enhancement(s), I won't weigh in on that here. (I lied, you shouldn't) But getting all of your accuracy from augments is a unequivocal no. Don't forget, extra accuracy isn't wasted, it increases your armor penetration. P.S. The reason I haven't done any theorycrafting since mmo-mechanics went away: I realized that after countless hours of math and spreadsheets the things I was debating usually didn't amount to more than 1%. Don't kill yourself with this ****, it's not worth the effort. 1/10 the effort spent on mechanics will have 100x the results.
  2. Sometimes the complaining works. The five guys that gave a **** about free-flight space kept ************ and ************ and ************, sometimes making 5+ threads a day. Eventually we had to go a very long time without any real content updates so they could change a starfox minigame (that was very enjoyable as a minigame,) to an x-wing minigame that no one plays. Try to make yourself sound dumb as **** and maybe you can influence bioware too, that seems to be the trick.
  3. This is not elitest at all. Is is asking for basic competency and consideration for your fellow players. Jumping in a gf run when you aren't ready, for any reason, and expecting strangers to carry you is selfish and there is nothing wrong with calling out that behavior. Crying "elitest" every time someone calls someone else out for sucking is stupid and makes the term meaningless. To answer the op's question: I used 12xxp to level 5 new characters without buying a single piece of gear and got started with endgame on them right away, you just need to do a few things to get gear. First, and this is going to sound weird if you are getting yelled at for joining HM flashpoints, but as long as you do have a good basic grasp of your class, join the current gf OP. You will get bolstered to a gear level that is more than sufficient. If gear really is the only problem you have, and you can do the op otherwise, you'll get lots of comms and get to roll on gear. While you are waiting for the queue to pop, go to the mission terminal, get the quests for all the early planetary weeklys if Oricon is too much for you (makeb, black hole, cz, etc., on makeb, every area has a terminal that looks like the daily area teleport terminal with a dish on top that bolsters you, I don't know what it bolsters you to, but when I go there in an incomplete set of greens, some of which I got as low as level 12 or so, it feels like I'm one-shotting trash on a starter planet) this will get you basic comms and gear from drops and turn-ins. When you get a little more gear do Oricon, that will get you a 5-piece 156 with a few lv156 containers and if you're lucky, those might get you an offhand or something else you can use. I'm assuming that if you got to lv55 with only class quests, you aren't light/darkV so you can't get those relics so do unranked pvp to buy oberon(sp?) relics (you'll be bolstered there too, even expertise is bolstered to over 1600.) The oberon focused retribution (I think that's the name of the mainstat proc one) is actually way better than the ark version (which really sucks for some reason.) After all that, if you weren't lucky enough to get a mainhand, you definitely got enough cash for a 156 barrel. Congrats, you are now geared enough for anything but HM ops.
  4. I don't see the problem here. The only good thing about having to PvP for one reason or another is getting to inadvertently troll the douchier PvPers. I say mission accomplished.
  5. Bioware knows what subscribers spend most of their time doing. Bioware knows what people who buy CC spend their time doing. Bioware knows where their money comes from. PvE is where the money is at. This is why PvE gets so much more attention than PvP. Bioware has made the decision that removing restrictions on what is essentially a mini-game will help turn more F2P people, who are trying out the game, into subscribers. Sucks for the PvPers that do spend money to support the game, but there just aren't enough of you to justify the expense of added attention. (also not enough to risk pissing off PvEers with "class-balancing" that is good for PvP but ruins PvE, so stop holding your breath for that) On the positive side, if this is all you do, you just saved $15 a month.
  6. ATTENTION! As I am a firm believer in being, at least partially, judged by the company you keep. And Andryah has come to my defense and, at least partially (I admit I couldn't get through the entire post due to sorrow), agreed with me. I must now admit I am wrong. I don't know why I'm wrong. I don't know what part I am wrong about. I only know I am wrong. I leave you now so I can go sit quietly and contemplate the choices I've made that led me to this dark place and try to discover a way back. Thank you for any moral support you can give, I'll need it. Right after this That is interesting, because ad hominem attacks are usually considered a good indication of a weak mind with no valid arguments to make.
  7. YES! Finally, we agree. So now you'll go QQ where someone does care? QFT and an amazing inability to combine proofreading and the ability to recognize unintended meanings in what you type. Kurt would have been proud of the way you never failed, from the first response, to include an ad hominem attack. Guess you didn't get much out of the read.
  8. If this truly does qualify as "content" in the PvP mind, I feel very sorry for you. If they tweaked my skill tree and added skill matching to ops queues and tried to call it new content, I'd be out. But if it takes that little to keep you occupied, good on ya.
  9. Still not on topic. It's ok though. If your QQ is too strong to be constrained by the many other threads about this, I guess we can work around you. Never let it be said I don't care about the mentally challenged. Edit: You too little buddy. We have enough crayons and construction paper for both of you. NO SCISSORS though. I'll cut it for you.
  10. Cool, glad we cleared that up. Now that we're on the same page, you can go hang with the peasants and whine about what you want to whine about.
  11. But my question was. I thought it was clear from my original post, and the context of the announcement for 2.4. Even if it wasn't, I think I have clarified it by now. Yet you insist on whining about the same old stuff when you have plenty of other places to do so. The only person who, so far, has made an on-topic response is the one above where they suggested more huttball maps. Every other post has either been pointless whining that is repeated in a number of other threads and/or pie-in-the-sky ideas that might, if we are very lucky, be the kind of thing you would see in a full expansion. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear at first, but I think I have been now. So, anything that isn't whining or unrealistic to add?
  12. I've read several post about PvPers underwhelmed about the lack of new PvP content in 2.4. If that is not a concern of yours, why are you here? There are many places for your QQ. I didn't make this thread to give you another. If you don't want to stay on topic, or consider the topic flawed, go to one about what you want to whine about.
  13. A good point. One that would be a wonderful addition to one of the 800 threads where it would be on topic.
  14. You jerk. I almost had a stroke just now. On topic. Realistic in scope. Reasonable. I need to go lay down.
  15. Yeah, that's great and all, but there are a lot of threads QQing about those things. Why didn't you post one of those places instead of coming here and not answering the question. I was trying to ask about content, not all the other crap that PvPers, in this game, whine about. It seems no one actually had any realistic expectations for additional content in 2.4 and are just QQing because that is what they do. If you have a realistic expectation for a content addition that wasn't met, please share it. If you want to whine about the same old crap, there are many places to do it.
