  1. I sooo misread the title to this thread
  2. For me and MMO's its all about the journey not the destination. Played SWG on and off from pre-CU to a little after shutdown announcement and was only lvl 50ish. I play LOTRO on and off from a year after launch till now and my main is lvl 57. I like taking my time. One thing I gained from re-rolling my SWTOR character was paying more attention to the story. When I have 5 or 6 quests in one area, I find it difficult to remember what I'm doing for who and why I'm doing it. On my re-roll I made a point of remembering names and following the story more. Especially my class story. Was way more enjoyable on the re-roll and I'll take the same approach when I eventually roll alts.
  3. I assume you are addressing my post since you mention the part about "caves and buildings". If you re-read you will find no cry or whine. If you weren't addressing my post then np. By choice i don't use speeders or fast travel that much. But I'm glad its there for the moments I stated and other reasons like getting to a heroic group I just joined or something.
  4. These are good examples. But APB like GTA use cars as main part of the gameplay so it needs to be done well and then setting is more in line with RL. In DayZ if you have a car then you have done well and you are basically "end gaming" and once it is destroyed its gone. In SWTOR, the personal speeders are just to get somewhere quickly where fast travel isnt available. If your speeder is damaged or even destroyed then should you have to walk back and buy a new one? Surely you would just use fast travel? I'm not saying you are wrong. Just providing to the conversation. I personally only use fast travel when I really need to or I've just finished a mission and want to get my rewards and its late and I dont want to log out in the cave system or factory with many levels I've been adventuring in. I dont even use my speeder that much and quite often giggle to myself when people pop their speeder just to get to the next area which is really just "over there". I mean, we are all sprinting everywhere too. Is that immersion breaking? I have heard of guilds in other games that play on RP servers and use the walk button to get around. Immersion is just too subjective and mileage varies. No-one is right or wrong on this. But its a great point of discussion tho.
  5. ... not from SWTOR but from the story. Dont get me wrong I'm enjoying the Jedi Consular story immensely and he is my only character at the mo. But I felt I was propelled along by the story, which is was a good thing, however I'm the sort of player that likes to do all quests and explore everywhere, especially on first playthough. Also I was seriously overlevelling at times, not necessarily a bad thing though as I will explain in a moment. The story, if taken from a role-playing perspective, made me feel like I shouldn't do some side quests. For example in my class story, I'm told a group of soldiers hasnt reported back from a dangerous area on Taris... well then really I shouldnt be wasting time gathering trinkets, tools and such for the group of refugees who are safe back at camp right? I'm not OCD or anything, so not being overly obsessed with doing all side quests, I left some incomplete or abandoned. Also, I had re-rolled from a dead server (free transfer came 3 weeks later and I had deleted my original toon lol!) so I had already done most of these quests and powered on with the class story and the more immediate and greater threat at hand. Eventually, I completed Chapter 1. Gratz and praise all round. I am a Barsen'thor <---- lol wut? and I realise I have no great threat or someone to save or anything very pressing to deal with. So I decide to go back and finish all those heroics, planetary bonus series on Nar Shadaa, Taris and Tat etc. This is really cool for me as I am doing it at my own pace and not feeling like I'm leaving those poor so and so's waiting to die in the swamp or not dealing with the pressing matter of a very dangerous and sick Jedi master right now. Again, I should mention I am doing this from a role-playing perspective. Also, its quite cool to be overlevelled doing these quests. I feel like a very powerful Jedi! Not even using my companion, Qyzen, I can take on many foes at once, many more than before, sometimes one-shotting them and even dying after a few sweeps of my lightsabre which is not usually viable with a Consular. If I stand still I deflect or block shot after shot which looks cool too. Granted its easy gameplay but it does make me feel powerful but I know I will face new and tougher challanges in Chapter 2, so right now this feels good and its nice to tie up loose ends before progressing the story. Plus, there are some great quests I missed out on story wise. Well thats me for the moment. When I roll an alt, doing all side quests wont be necessary as I've seen them before and I wont feel like I'm missing out on anything. I can just do the alt class story and whatever else fits my motivation for that character. Or just take all quests and if I can do some on the way to the next class story area then great, if not then no great loss. Unless I roll an Empire toon. That means all new side quests on first playthrough. But I may not even do that and leave some for other Empire alts. This game does have flaws and I do read alot of negative posts but this happens with all games not just MMOs. But it is a great game and with minor adjustments to play style a lot of enjoyment can be gained from SWTOR. I wanted to post something positive among all the negativity here. I am not a hardcore player so I dont notice all the flaws that a HC player might be bothered by.
  6. Okay I think I see what you mean - like if I use the elevator to get my ships hangar, instead of a loading screen showing the SWTOR logo, a series of lights whizzing by like I'm going up or down could be shown? Honestly tho, there has to be a compromise for immersion in MMO's. Your example of cars in the next GTA is not valid - thats a single player game also where driving is prevalent in the gameplay and Rockstar do it very well. They also did it very well in RDR with whistling for your horse and it comes running in from just out of view distance - I wish they could do that in LOTRO! Not sure how it would work in a sci-fi game like SWTOR tho - guess your speeder could be remote piloting itself to you like the Batmobile or something? Not sure it would look right tho. Like I said before, we have to compromise on immersion with some games - especially MMO's. If the fact that seeing a loading screen with the SWTOR logo reminds us we are playing a game... where does it stop? No sense of smell? The fact there is a world going on aroundyour chair and screen?
  7. 1. Taking off with the space ship to have a chat with my companions] Agreed, why can't we just be in our ship but still in the hangar bay? Like both previous KOTOR games. I read a post from someone suggesting they wouldnt even have to render the hangar from the viewport in the cockpit. Just have the blast shields down or whatever if rendering the hangar is proving too tricky for EA. 2. Clicking on my space ship door to land Minor annoyance but yes true 3. Waving to invisible shuttles when quicktravel and the whole concept of "beaming" which reminds me of Star Trek each and every time Fast travel is needed for MMO's I guess - but I dont like the whole beaming thing either. The waving to invisible shuttles is VERY annoying. Even more annoying if I ever roll an Empire toon... my Sith Lord doing a little wave every time I fast travel is just not very.... dark side? 4. Spawning speeders out of my *** + completely missing velocity/gravity/acceleration when using speeders Speeders just spawning - tricky one this is. I remember that speeders in SWG needed to be called near a garage or inside a city zone at first, then changed the requirement to player made camps, then changed again to be able to call speeder from anywhere (not in combat ofc). Thing is, ALL of these involved the speeder materialising from thin air! 5. Hovering stationary birds flapping their wings on a spot Minor annoyance - for me at elast 6. Missing day / night changes on planets Another tricky one for me - at first I wasn't bothered. I play DCUO sometimes and in that game Gotham is in perpetual night and Metropolis is morning/midday all the time. Purposefully done to maintain the theme of each place. In SWTOR, I have one toon (Jedi Consular) so Tython was no problem and its a starting zone anyways, Coruscant just looks cool imo, Taris didnt bother me having no day/night, Nar Shadaa is a kinda Coruscant at night in my eyes plus it would lose its seedy, neon-lit atmosphere in daytime. Then I get to Tatooine... here's where I start missing day/night cycles. Pretty obvious why too. I will never get to see the twin sunset 7. Static loading screens Dunno what OP means here - should loading screens be animated? 8. 16 Credits to travel through the universe, a million credits to install a mailbox on your ship Minor annoyance - playability supersedes the need for realism or immersion here. 9. Companions standing in the same spot on your ship all the time, never moving or doing something Yeah would be nice if they did more than just stand about but not a really immersion breaker for me. 10. Running into my instanced hangar and the space ship fades in + can´t be seen through the green door Minor annoyance - but EA might as well have a door you click on that loads you into the hangar with ship already rendered. EDIT: AND A SPECIAL CONTENDER FOR N.O.# 1 I forgot to mention: EXHAUSTION ZONES I agree whole heartedly. I hate the exhaustion zone. Apparently there to stop opposing factions massing up and attacking the others main city. Why not just have A LOT of un-killable troopers to counter any mass griefing from the other factions. I REALLY liked Tatooine at first (even made a thread bout how happy I was) but then I ran out of Anchorhead only to die from being "exhausted" at less than 100m from town.... silly idea or just poorly implemented. But really I gave up on "immersion" being provided to me from games ages ago and have always filled in the blanks myself - good imagination is all. However, I find not being able to sit in chairs really annoying.
  8. I think I've already stated this earlier in this thread but I'll repeat seeing as this is getting read by a Dev: If you have your current companion dismissed and have a conversation with a NPC mission giver, after the cutscene is over your companion will be automatically re-summoned. This bug was introduced after 1.2 update. Not game-breakning just a tad annoying. Sometimes I dont want Qyzen following me everywhere - I have my reasons. When I have him dismissed, I want him to stay dismissed please.
  9. One scene that always gets me is Luke taking out the speeder bike in RotJ. I love how it plays out. He has this look of determination and confidence as he gets up and pops his lightsabre. The sounds are awesome his new sabre flares into life and the speeder trooper just opens up on Luke, the deflection sounds are cool as are Lukes moves. Chops the airfoil or whatever it is off the front of the speeder bike. Job done. It also links right back to his training droid scene in ANH and shows how far he has come and is now a powerful force to be reckoned with. The scene only lasts a few seconds. It's not the best SW movie moment ever. But it's a hella lot of cool.
  10. Yes plz fix this bug. It was fine back at launch and got messed up around 1.2 update. Also if I have my companion dismissed and then have speak to a quest giver, my companion reappears after the cutscene. None of this is game breaking but its just one of those annoying things that once worked fine but is now broken. I'd give all my Cartel Coins to have this fixed. Hows that for incentive?
  11. I think you should return that bottle of hand sanitizer you stole. Honestly... jeopardizing other peoples hygiene just so you can have a souvenir of your visit is appalling and probably the single reason why there were layoffs. How many employees do you think suffered interrorgation by Dr. Ball MD because of your actions? I would never attend a town meeting with you present so I say good day to you sir.
  12. you have to make ship in box light ship so ship come out when opened. then if ship is back after ship, use light ship on box, and ship will be boxed after ship is out.
  13. I remember reading a dev post (can't find the link right now) saying there were difficulties associated with adding new ships. It was saying that new ships couldn't be added quickly or soon but they aren't writing off the idea altogether. The problem stems from (as another poster said above) the story taking place aboard the player ships. The cutscenes would need to re-done / re-jigged whenever story occurs. I don't see how this is a major problem but then I don't create MMO's. There maybe other issues but this is the one I definitely remember. Wish I could find the dev post.
  14. I dont think F2P will affect the Secret Space Project. Take at look at LotRO. Since that game went F2P a few years back, they have increased revenue and released one ex-pac with another coming this year which includes mounted horseback combat. From the looks of things its actually an entirely new gaming system rather than something tacked on to the current combat system. Also the landmass they are adding (Rohan) is almost the size of the landmass that was at launch. If anything, I believe the SSP will be delayed but F2P will not kill the idea outright. One thing I dont get is how "story", which is what SWTOR seems to be all about, will fit with a full 3D space flight and combat system. This kind of game system is associated with free roam or sandbox type of gameplay whereas SWTOR is theme park. I'm not saying space element should be story driven. I'd be happy if the ground game was story driven while space is free and open. Will definitely be interesting to see how the 3d space game (which i believe is coming) integrates with the present ground game. Also would full 3d space completely nullify the space minigame we have at the moment? The minigame has never really bothered me as it was always stated it was a minigame / side activity and nothing more.
