/signed While some of them were lackluster I do miss the smugglers cowboy outfits and the agents Rakata was actually pretty good for that class at least. In general I preferred those outfits to the new ones.

Ok so nothing class altering happening here, thanks Kit. Yes they are the simple tank, you can basically play blind and not only hold aggro but survive most any encounter all the while getting your rotation off properly. However of all the tanks I find them the most enjoyable, I think mainly due to how much I like their moves uppercut, rail shot, flame thrower, carbonize etc...are all fun to watch.

Since you are asking about these 2+ the IA im assuming you want to do dps. If that is the case go PT, they do better DPS (when specd pyro) however they are more melee with a few ranged abilities where as a merc is straight range. Also just learn the class a little bit more, a PT that has even a little experience should never lose to a merc. Lastly I really would suggest rolling a sniper if you are into dps, there is not a better single target dps class than a sniper, you can take people down in about 5-6 secs no problem. I will add that they are all fun and viable for endgame PVE so roll what you enjoy most.

Rolled a sniper to 50 and they do have good survivability granted you know how to play them. Obviously you need to be way outside the combat zone and burn people down. Insane single target dps and you have a good variety of tools to keep melee off of you, but if you get focused by 2-3 its goodnight in hurry. I had a ton of fun with my sniper and watching somebodies health bar go down halfway in about 3 secs is 2nd in addiction only to crack. If you have reservations do what the above poster said and roll both.

My main is a mm sniper and about a month ago I decided to roll a pt to change it up a little. I never realized how much of a pain in the ***** snipers could be. If you can get to them before they enter cover or sneak in behind them you stand a good chance of winning a 1v1. However if they get the jump on you and you are 30m or so away you have a very difficult uphill battle ahead of you, not impossible, just not probable. This of course is assuming you are dealing with a competent sniper.

I have a 50 mm sniper and 50 ST Ptech. The IA story is far superior! They are both viable for endgame pve and they can be viable pvp granted you take the time to gear and be viable yourself, however neither of them are the best at pvp but both are fun to play. I say roll each one to 20 or so and then go from there. If i had to do one over again it would be the IA.

Though I have been top dps a couple of times in lowbie pvp but that has been more of the exception and not the norm. All in all I feel like the class needs no buffs but that's just my opinion.

As a Shield Tech PT I am very happy with the class, its the easiest of all the classes I have played so far and I have played them all. No we cant escape when we get focus fired but we have some good survivability and excellent dps. Is it a perfect class no but it is a ton of fun imo and also your basically a bully, just pull people in and beat them up.

I would highly recommend the ptech as your imp tank. Most fun class to play so far and I have played them all. The story does get better but not a whole lot. However pvp and flash points are a blast with the ptech. Roll him you wont be disappointed.

I have PT tank and the dps really is not bad at all. Also your tanking abilities are epic and the class is just a blast. PvP wise you will be very hard to kill! I was at level 28 and was able to take on a shadow and scoundrel at the same time and killed them both. You wont be the top dps but you wont be far away either and you are much harder to kill. That being said pyro is not a bad choice either, but i prefer tanking.

My main is a Sniper and I have taken him all the way to 50. The story is worth it and I also went with a light side guy. I didnt kill anybody I didnt have to but I always tried to make my job easier. About every decision you make will come back on you one way or the other in the end. You may not want to, but it will be worth it so make the jump!
