  1. Hi, does anyone know where to get the electromesh combat suit chest piece? Darth Hater says it's for HC4 Chasing The Shadow but this gives a choice of Electromesh Barrage and Electromesh Battle chest pieces instead. Thanks
  2. Hi, to be fair there are some of these elements in some of the flashpoints and raids. - Flashpoints that require the team to split up - Eternity Vault requires the raid to split for Ancient Pylons, and each fights individually for Infernal Council, and Denova for the boss pairs and one splits off to do minefield. While I agree these aren't separate routes. As far as FPs the closest is LI operating the 3 consoles while the healer heals. - Flashpoints that change - yes this would be an idea and I do think this would add some longevity, but of course it might be percieved that it's more 'value' to offer 2 FPs with 4 bosses each than 1 FP with any 4 of 8 bosses - Flashpoints with true conversational impacts. Esseles has meaningful conversational decisions, also Red Reaper. Some of the others have more globally important ones e.g. saving the fleet in was it T5? which don't have much impact within the flashpoint and they could dial the consequences of this up better. - Flashpoints that call people out. I like False Emperor for this when each is singled out in turn for solo combat. And Dir7 replication (except when there was the unending sith warriors spawning bug). I think some bosses do comment on your race, I cr where though - Flashpoints that have multiple "right" ways. I'm not sure I agree, people will just go the easy way. As it is, we have hard bonus bosses if you want to do them, and some bosses are skippable in some instances if you want. - Flashpoints that have complexity and use multiple game systems. False Emperor's last fight, the cannon in Kaon, actually Collicoid is so different they had to put in special instructions and is heavily puzzle based as well. other boss fights have phases, like those in LI, or Athiss, or Cademimu - Flashpoint that use crew skills - there are some areas/elevators that can be sliced in I think Mandalorian Raiders, you can take a different route in Red Reaper using Artifice. Collicoid, Athiss and others let you gain a droid or creature pet to fight with you using scavenging and bioanalysis. So I think this is well covered. - Flashpoints that feel heroic. They have this in False Emperor, I agree that some of the other boss fights just end and the pat on the back from Satele comes a bit late to feel heroic so they could do more here. But some of this is a spacebar issue. I think there is a good variance in the FPs, it's clear they have tried to make them work differently. But more variation is always welcome. The problem I think is the more simple one - that you have to redo end game material over and over until it is very boring and any original twists become normalised to you, and you spacebar through all the dialogue that made the FP meaningful.
  3. hi While there are lots of great operations guides on youtube you should learn the fights from, I have been videoing our guild's Ops for our website as we progress through the raids and bosses. I thought I'd share, if anyone is curious to see what they're like from a specifically gunslinger perspective. Eternity Vault Karagga's Palace the above Fabricator fight I was just DPS, this one shows working the puzzle with a bit of DPS in the burn phase: Denova Explosive Conflict
  4. I started playing LOTRO whern it went FTP. As things currently stand it's a far superior game to SWTOR. Ambience: LOTRO has day/night cycle, you can traverse the land from one end to the other with pretty much everything reachable. There are NPCs walking round town living their lives. You can grow your own weed and smoke it, there are seasonal fairs with little mini games. Going to see the Northern Lights in Forochel is stunning, but most areas have unique feel to them. The tone is also varied, from grim desperation in Mirkwood to hostile locals in Dunland to playful in the Shire. SWTOR you can't just go off everywhere and explore, it's all boxed sections, basically 'levels'. There is no day/night but they don't explain it as being due to the planet cycle, has hardly any NPCs that aren't quest givers or military. Is Corellia more populated than Tattouine? Why do we even have 2 factions on a PVE server if you only ever see them in Warzones? Payment model: Some above have complained about the cash shop in LOTRO but it's not that bad, and if you subscribe then your subscription gives you the money to buy some nice cosmetics, other things it sells you can get in game by playing it, deeds etc. So you can subscribe and get stuff anyway, or not and pay for bits you need. In SWTOR if you don't get a subscription you can't play at all. Social: SWTOR doesn't really do socialising. Even now, I can't whisper someone in the guild from the guild window, I have to look them up on the full list. LOTRO has a group finder nowadays, and as people have mentioned the music system is amazing. Actually being able to dye armour to create your own unique cosmetic looks, change your hairstyle at the barber etc. really does make your character personal. However one of the best things is built-in voice chat, which makes 12 man pugs possible in terms of explaining mechanics, fun and an opportunity to make new friends. Quests: SWTOR quests are mainly killing x, activating buttons, or around 'new tech' that seems to make no difference in the end. LOTRO has quests to kill, activate buttons, go up hills and look at the view, sing to the trees, go on a pub crawl. The main story arc is linked to the main story Quest routes: LOTRO has more areas than needed to quest in, so alt levelling can take a different route, and only a couple of class quests. SWTOR has 8 big class quests story arcs, and the voice overs really do convey something unique. That said some of the plot twists were either too well signed or seemed a bitinconsequential. Setting: The strength of both is an existing background. LOTRO is set at the same time as and around the events in the books. You are on the edge of the story. While we know what the immediate future holds, we are part of shaping it. SWTOR is set 3000 years before the films, yet much is the same, same weapons, similar clothing, same baddies just more of them. This gives it an underlying sense of futility esp. the quests about new tech that you come to realise will make zero impact whether you get it or not. Why didn'y they set it in the future? Wear-out: The strength of both is also their limitation - neither are free to introduce completely new enemies and storylines. The problem with LOTRO is the hierarchy of enemies is limited, eventually there are only so many orcs and goblins you can kill. But at least there is a long road till end game to enjoy. The problem with SWTOR is it was so fast to reach end game where there is little content. Why is there an Ilum dailiy to rescue a guy and yet every day he still needs rescuing? Enemies are less restrictive but there is still going to be an emphasis on yet more evil lord siths. It seems like SWTOR's plan for max experience is to level 8 alts and I don't think many will last that long.
  5. Thanks for taking the time to give a full answer I'll go farm some alloys
  6. Hi A question for Armstech crafters: When I was levelling I collected a large range of orange blasters, including ones I found on the GTN. Since the augments system has come in I see only 2 types of augmented gear on GTN Custom-built [blaster] Elegant Modified [blaster] And this is across all the weapon types and I don't think I saw them before 1.2. Are these the only ones on the GTN because they are actually the only 2 types of weapon that can be augmented, or are others possible but those are merely the easiest/economical? If it's the former, that's really sad as everyone will eventually just be using 2 models and look the same. If it's the latter, any ideas as to how to get other blaster types crafted? Thanks Asta
  7. I just noticed this it's very annoying and sounds completely demented. I realise I put points into burst volley, I might respec until they fix this sound, plus the tinny sounds my blasters now have and too much ambience sometimes. They seem to have messed up the sounds a lot in this patch. see this thread for more general sound issues http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=402872
  8. Perfect World features 80 vs 80 Territory Wars. These ran fine on my machine until they introduced the Genies which were graphically intensive and started to stutter a lot with full 160 person battles. Another route games such as Battle of the Immortals (which I otherwise don't recommend) use are 'realms' which equate to the instance phases SWTOR was using at launch. So one realm became the go-to realm for player permanent shops, some others for getting groups for certain dailies instances etc. and others might be always sparsely populated if you wanted less competition and general chatter.
  9. I too find this very odd. Going onto your ship even if you don't go anywhere requires the take off and landing cut scenes and actually when I first started playing I kept trying to fly back to where I took off from 'cos I thought the cut scene meant I'd gone somewhere... They really need to stop these cut scenes appearing here. Conversely when you actually do travel from one planet to another on the ship galaxy map there's about a 1 second whoosh effect through the front windscreen which is all pretty underwhelming. Really when you fly from planet A to planet B especially a new planet for the first time they should make more of it, i.e. have the take-off cut scene, whoosh through hyperspace and then the landing cut scene.
  10. Have you leveled a Smuggler or Agent? Why/why not? Yes I have a 50 Gunslinger and an 11 Scoundrel. I usually play ranged dps or healer. My main was a sage till around level 7 I realised my 'special force sensitive' character was one of 100 others on Tython and really not very special at all, and the sage storyline was overly worthy for me. It's great to have a class with a bit more freedom of orientation to make your own choices. Scoundrel I found a bit difficult as healing party/companion was a little fiddly to do well I and don't like melee. Did you enjoy the story? The story starts off great, but there's a twist towards the end which didn't seem very convincing and was a bit unsatisfactory by the end. Additionally the storyline allows you to become quite powerful however there's minimal benefit to this - it would have been nice to get credits or rare mats through contacts. While going lightside for relics etc. while levelling I'm unsure that light/dark is relevant to someone who doesn't use glowsticks. Did you enjoy the mechanics? Why/why not? Rolling into cover is fun for the first few times but there are issues that others have mentioned. However keybinding to cover in place solves this issue. The 'cover bar' is very frustrating when starting as the skills essentially move around on your skill bars when you are in/out of cover. Many times I pressed a skill button to find that now I'm in cover I used some other skill. The solution is disable the cover bar - the UI shows you what skills are available anyway Are these classes an important SW fantasy to you? Not particularly obsessed with Star Wars as that jar jar binks fiasco film put me off but I really enjoyed the original 3. And I struggle with the current game time period where 3000 years earlier things are actually pretty much the same - same planets, same families on alderaan, same fashion, same technological level yet every other quest is about new technology... I think it's important to have characters that are unaligned that you can mould yourself, and Han Solo's character is an iconic version of that, sure. Do you still play the class? If not, why not? Gunslinger is my still main character but I can only fill DPS slots which is a problem for a game designed round groups of 4 - I can't respec to get a group. I found Scoundrel sawbones not so much my style as it seems I have to melee so I'm spacebaring through on my dull sage to have the ability to heal too - sage healing circle is much loved by groups I've pugged with. Frankly sage is so much easier to play, and you get a tank and healer as first two companions. Anything they could do to encourage you to try one if you haven't, or play the one you have? I've only tried Sharpshooter to be honest not either of the shared trees. From this perspective it would be great to have a healing tree or ability for Gunslinger in addition to our single target and aoe target dps, to increase usefulness, leaving Scoundrel as the stealth/melee with healing option. This would help address some issues others mentioned, Gunslingers might be less dull with another role. Most other quests are oriented towards Republic, however, and there aren't so many options to do quests for selfish reasons (credits). Or indeed switch allegiance to the Hutts. I feel freedom should be a lure. I splashed out a lot on a magenta crystal for my blaster, to find that only a few attacks actually use crystal colour in their animations. I think if more attacks were coloured this would add some interest and variety. Finally the cosmetics options are really poor with the best outfits at low levels. To personalise I used cosmetic gear when levelling. Make the sunglasses and eyepatch drop more often, these are envied by other classes, and add similarly appealing visuals.
  11. There are websites with .ini file edits that switch on hi-res. FPs, warzones, fleet and landscape questing are all fine, but central ilum pvp was very stuttery, exactly the same as normal hi settings. I'm really enjoying the clothes and scenery now and it's making alt a lot more fun visiting the same places. Even the droids have reflective surfaces
  12. Signed. I got a magenta crystal for shocking pink bolts but it only shows on a couple of shots
  13. Some blasters have LED type lights on them, it would be great if these reflected the crystal inside (haven't checked myself). I think some of the attack animations are too traditional gun-related - where guns have a yellow/orange muzzle flash. If your crystal is orange or yellow then all our attacks match, which I've mostly stuck to. Some of our attacks do reflect the colour crystal but not all. I definitely agree it would be nice if all our skills used the appropriate colours.
  14. It would have been interesting if smugglers and bounty hunters started off working for the Hutts and could choose to ally light or dark if they wanted. Or stay making money unaligned in the cartel.
  15. The armour mod value is affected by armour type multiplier so light armour pieces will always have less armour rating than medium armour, for the same armour mod level. That said, depending on your playstyle I used a light armour social chest for pretty much the whole journey 10>50. You only need the defence if you're getting hit, if you don't get aggro off your tank you don't need armour. Sure you may die a couple more times than you would in medium armour but that's nothing in the course of levelling while looking good. And hey, when you do you make a stylish corpse
