10 Good
  1. I disagree with the guy on Sorcs being bad at 1 vs 1. I disagree with the guy on Sorcs being good in a group situation. And i owe him an apology because i was having a bad day, and was actually pretty rude in my first comment towards him. And honestly I have never seen him play on Bastion, and i don't know if he was one of the guys that re-rolled on Pot5, or if I have ever played with him here. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. He is probably a 10x better player than I am if he can even make a Sorc work (he should play a sniper they do everything a sorc does, but do it without being broken) and he is the GM of one of the 4-5 guilds that is a legitimate Ranked team.
  2. Will putting my name down make me worse at 1 vs 1's? Or will it invalidate any of my posts? You can feel free to tell me which part of my response you disagree with. But know ahead of time that if you think Sorcerers are bad 1 vs 1 but good in a group fight, I have automatically lost some respect for you. If you want to look me up on your <Put me in Coach> alt that is fine. I'm not trying to hide, I'm just lazy. I play on Pot5 and my main is my Sniper Edonid. My Sorcerer is retired to just 2-4 PuG WZ's a night for dailies. But if you want to see him when he's on, Vettath is his name. I'm not the best PvP player, and I have never made any statements that I am. I only have one hand, keyboard turn, and have the reaction times of a mid thirty year old that has always preferred turn based games. Not some kid who grew up playing twitch games. But at even I can see some of the strengths and weaknesses of the class.
  3. This just makes you sound retarded. My Sorcerer is one of the best at 1 vs 1's. Any good Sins can beat me 1 on 1 obviously as they have all my same tools, and several AI don't have as well. A good Vengeance Jugg makes me want to cry. The best Carnage Mara's can beat me. But 1 vs 1 on live I have absolutely no complaints at all. On PTS we got weaker 1 vs 1, because they cut off our kiting abilities, especially in Madness. My problem is in group fights. If you don't tab DoT, even if you are left alone the majority of the whole time, you still won't be very high on damage done. The only Sorc's I have seen that end up among the leaders in DPS are the ones who tab DoT everything in sight and Force Storm when they see 3 or more people standing near each other. Tab DoT'ing affliction is severely useless in this game right now. Force Storm is better for the green circle on the ground and herding stupid people than it is for actually doing damage. When a Smash monkey leads DMG boards, you know he was spreading around 6-7k hits to multiple people, and probably quite a few executes of low HP players too. When a Pyro PT leads the damage boards you know he was hitting people over and over with Railshot probably pretty close to every 6 seconds. Snipers you know people stayed in Orbital Strike, or they got off a bunch of crit ambushes for 6-7k and probably a bunch of 5k followthroughs and takedowns too. Or a bunch of crit explosive probes popped by crit SoS or Culls. Sorcerers lead the damage and you know they did 4-500 damage at a time to a whole bunch of people. It's a whole different ballgame when other classes are hitting a whole order of magnitude harder than you are.
  4. I took my level 40 Sin to illum last night. An hour later ish he was 46.
  5. Yup, go to illum and say; "LF XP Group". On my server last 2 night's there has been full ops groups farming every single instance and every single pylon in each instance. Bolster makes you kill these high level elites and champions at about the same speed as a group of 4 in BiS gear, so it goes pretty fast. And yeah, about a level every 20 mins. Or less.

    Body Size for PVP

Funny thing I found out by having 8 different characters and trying out every body size. It's not just for looks. Body size 3 actually takes up more space. There are places you can walk in the other body types, even the fatty, that body type 3 can not walk. Best example is the lightpole things on imperial fleet directly across from PvP terminal I can run between the lightpole and the wall on any other toon. I can't fit there in body type 3. So technically if Body type 3 takes up more room, he is easier to hit with AoE's and especially GTAoE's. In reality the difference is so small that it really makes no difference. play what looks good to you.
  7. Oh no!! A F2P player who didn't understand anything about how the game worked, but already formed an opinion about what was wrong, facts be damned; quit the game today. Time to close down the servers.
  8. People whined the most about 3 things on live. 1. Smash. Got a small teeny tiny nerf, in the midst of a giant nerf to crit chance, and smash actually came out stronger than before, with extra damage in the rest of their rotation to boot. 2. Bubblestun - got taken away completely, bubbles nerfed, hybrid specs nerfed, and CC's nerfed. 3. Sorcerers have weak armor and taking extremely high damage, while doing the lowest burst of anyone - they made the armor weaker, and took away our 10% AoE damage talent so deathfield hits for even less now. So then we get on PTS and assassins are crying about their damage spec reduced even though tank spec was made stronger. Merc's were crying that not enough was done. Sorcs are crying because lightning is still broken and now they broke madness. So what happens? Today Bioware gave a bunch of damage back to sins in the form of burst. They gave Mercs some love but came right out to say they have other things in the works for mercs that will be going in next time they patch. Sorcerers were completely ignored. Oh they did make an ability that has a 20% chance to proc do more damage. But that was more for sins who get a 100% chance to proc the same thing in their version of the tree.
  9. Roll to cover instead of crouch also gives you bugs with snap shot ability if you're a MM spec. It's stupid and broken. I like the advantages of actual hard cover, so I kept it on my bars for the longest time. But it really is broken. Just take it off and put crouch there.
  10. Obviously you haven't played on PTS at all to try out this new ability. Everytime I used it, the person would just stop beating on me, and start capping. Meaning I had to cancel my channel early to stop a cap. meaning i did not delay my trip to the med center by 10 seconds, it was more like 4-5. Just wish I could save the other 5-6 seconds for later instead of having to wait a full 3 mins to use it again.
  11. I tried Lightning spec briefly on PTS, I'm not very good with it, having almost zero experience with it on live, and only running 4 WZ's with it on PTS. But I do play a sorc quite a bit and my main is a Sniper so i am good at positioning a ranged class at least and judge range pretty darn well. I ran into 2/4 games against several good opponents. Dropping AoE's in your area, interrupting, CC drive-by's, and the general pushback you always get. Plus whenever a leaper noticed my big bolts of lightning they were more than happy to jump at me and see how big of a smash or gore'd ravage or scream they could get off. Charge counts as a hard interrupt and we can't completely get rid of pushback even with talents. It was full PuG of enemies though, so not even a coordinated RWZ team or anything (some may have been RWZ players though) this class and their partners arsenal mercs are just still not a viable class until something is done to level the playing field with interrupts and pushback. Not to mention mobility. I played over the course of 3 days 25+ games on my Madness Sorc. Every single class was given a new ability at 55. Every single one of those abilities helps that class not be kited by madness sorcs. Plus things like Hydraulic overrides being made baseline, snipers getting more time in entrench and mobility, smashers being able to leap at you even while rooted, etc. Kiting has become almost impossible. Then they took away our instant WW too. Literally my only tool for kiting now is Creeping terror, which is a dot that last 18 seconds and ticks every 3 seconds. Using it on CD is what I mostly ended up doing, strictly for the root. It lowers my dps, dpct, overall damage, everything. But I had that root. Using it on CD I also never had it when I needed it. So I could wait and use it as needed for my only escape ability, but then i lower my dps, dpct, and over all damage too. I tried node guarding, figuring that is what I am very good at on live. I could not solo most classes. I could force barrier, and I thought that would buy me 10 seconds for my team to come help, but smart opponents just immediately started to cap, so I had to cut my once every 3 minute ability short almost every time I used it. Fully 1/2 of the time as soon as I came out of force barrier, i was CC'd, as they had time to stop and think about exactly what they were going to do the moment i moved. I had 50% more HP, but seemed to be taking 60% more damage than on live. I definitely did not feel I lived any longer, and in fact in big fights at mid or doors or someplace i felt like I died faster. The 1% alacrity buff that had a 20% chance op proccing from force Lightning was pretty much never up. I only used lightning strike with wrath, as it really doesn't make sense to use it over force lightning as filler without wrath. So that new talent seemed like a complete waste to me, especially at tier 7. Self healing of devour and parisitism felt even less useful than on live, even with a bigger hp pool, partly due to crit nerf, but mostly because I have a self instant heal that heals more than 10 crits ticks would. The other tier 7 ability that lets you take 30% less damage while you're stunned seems equally useless to me. it only applies to stuns, not all forms of CC from what i can tell. We are still the squishiest class, and we really don't have any escape abilities. 30% less damage while stunned just means we take one extra hit to kill once the stun is done. we are a class that needs to avoid being hit at all, because we melt so fast, so an ability that lets us take slightly less damage in some circumstances isn't honestly useful to me at all. Lightning burns is another crappy ability that rarely procs off of force lightning, but does proc more often from the filler we don't use. Extra damage is extra damage, and we need all of the help we can get. I just don't understand why these abilities are triggering from lightning strike and barely at all from force lightning. 15% less damage from DoT's in this game is still a joke of a way to spend 2 skill points. Again 15% is a tiny insignificant amount, and DoT's aren't threatening in this game, except for Pyro Pt's, but those are the least of your worries if you have a pyro PT focusing on you. Haunted dreams is now maybe the worst ability in the tree full of bad abilities. 0.50 seconds off a 2.0 second cast time is a stupid waste of 2 points, and although that extra 2 second stun on damage breaking the mez is nice, it loses its appeal when you're a dot class that still has WW break on DoT damage (We had been screaming about that forever, but to fix it they took away our mez for all intents and purposes, then gave lathality Snipers an ability so their sleeps wouldn't be broken by DoT damage.) Sith efficacy is still crap. We can reduce (but not eliminate) pushback on force lightning, and reduce it's force cost. But force lightning still requires us to stand still and channel it, while the only way to stay alive is moving and kiting. Madness Sorcerers still have problems with force management and nothing was done about it. It's an ability that is absolutely required to take, but in reality does absolutely nothing for us. Oppressing Force - still the dumbest ability in the game. I was wrong about haunted dreams before. lowering the CD of electrocute by 10 seconds by itself is actually not too bad. but adding on something that literally only makes any difference while solo leveling is stupid. being able to Whirlwind 2 extra standard or weak enemies does not do anything at all in PvP. It doesn't do anything in any operation. So basicly neither path you can take at endgame it is not an endgame ability. Flaspoints? If your group of 4 can clear a trash pull that is missing 2 standard or weak enemies, then you can clear a trash pull that isn't missing them. It has no effect on any bosses. Heroics while leveling? Still no. If your group can handle it with 2 extra weak mobs, they can handle it with them too. Soloing heroics though while leveling, yes, it does help there. No other class though has to have an ability that has absolutely zero bearing on any sort of endgame activity. Sith defiance is still 2% flat damage reduction for 2 points. Tanks like abilities like that, even DPS classes in heavy armor don't bother with that ability, ad most of them have the option. It is beyond stupid that 2% damage reduction is considered in any way useful to sorcerers. By my count that is 17 wasted points if you went fully 100% into the tree. Makes me want to go hybrid. I also miss the 10% increased damage I could get from the healing tree on AoE effects, so my deathfield is actually weaker now. Thanks for that, i did feel too bursty before. I was planning on just filling my sorc with comms and retiring him once 2.0 hits. But the more I think about it, given how completely clueless Bioware has shown themselves to be, i am thinking I'll just let my subscription lapse in 3 days.
  12. Wow that is a lot of survivability. The second most survivable out of every class in the game. Wow. They must be able to stand toe to toe with any one of any class and win... Oh wait you called that face tanking, and said they can't do that, only melee classes can do that. So which is it are they survivable or squishy? Oh maybe you meant they are survivable as long as they run away from the objectives. You're right there, I had a game the other night, i ran and hid in a corner of the map and didn't die one time. Nobody even came close to killing me. So survivable! The fact is Madness Sorcerers right now are a very suboptimal spec for playing WZ's. They are good at 1 vs. 1 dueling, as long as there are LoS opportunities and places to hide nearby. If they have both of those, a very well played Sorc can beat an average player of about 75% of the specs of all other classes. However in 2.0 like you said they did get their damage increased. So did every other class. They also had their defense decreased, so did... 1 other class. Every single class was given an ability that will help in WZ's and PvP, and every single one that i looked at is anti-kiting. But to make up for other classes be less able to be kited, we at least got to lose some of our core kiting tools... wait that doesn't make up for it at all.
  13. Yup. There is absolutely nothing in this game that pisses me off worse than solo guarding snow or grass on my sniper while some Sin is running to mid. Those stupid platforms make it absolutely impossible for a sniper to defend against any decent player of pretty much any class. At mid though up on a balcony in cover snipers could he probably the most dominant thing in the game. Meanwhile a Sin solo guarding an off node means nobody should ever solo the node, and the node should never be taken without time for your team to react and get there. And at a giant zerg at mid stealth loses much of its advantage, Sins lose much of their value, as most of thei abilities are better suited for 1 vs 1 fights.
  14. Playing my Sorcerer I can easily tell when our PuG is going to lose. Good teams and good players interrupt me, bad teams don't. Since this was my first toon that I ever played, I learned very early on just how bad interrupts can be. two players interrupting me on my sorc can pretty much ignore me and let me stand around doing nothing as they keep me interrupted and not casting. However my second class was a Sniper (A sorcerer without being broken) and if I had played that class first I might not even realize interrupts had any use at all in WZ's. Literally the only thing of mine that is interruptable would be if I for some reason didn't drop into cover while channeling cull from lethality spec. Otherwise cover completely makes me uninterruptable on every ability and every other ability that is cast or channeled has to be used in cover. My third class I played was a marauder. Every ability I use is instant except ravage, which Bioware decided wasn't fair if they could use all but one ability, so they made it so that ravage could not be interrupted either. If i had played a mara first or a mara after my sniper I would have absolutely no concept of what an interrupt does in PvP. My fourth class to get to 50 and PvP with was a pyro PT. I have 2 abilities on him that can be interrupted flame thrower and unload. Unload is something I use more than I ever see most PT's using so I figure it is probably a DPS loss anyways, but does have situational usage. Same with flame thrower. I use it for it's AoE and when waiting for my free railshot to proc again. But not really sure it is actually a DPS gain over flameburst. So while PT players could be interrupted occasionally, it really isn't that big of a deal to them if they are. I'm working on leveling a shadow next so I can learn to beat those guys, but they don't seem to have all that much to interrupt either. Between pushback and interrupts though there are 2 DPS classes that are unplayable and completely not viable at all against a team of good players. But at least they make up for it by being amongst the lowest DPS when they aren't interrupted. Hurray for Biowares idea of balance.
  15. It just got much worse for me tonight out of nowhere. I take cover and expect my snap shot to proc. Instead I take aim and start my cast time, and when the bar counts all the way down I start mashing my followthrough... but it didn't light up. fourth or fifth time this happened I was actually paying attention enough to figure out what was going on. at first I just assumed cover was bugged or something and somebody somehow interrupted me. But it only happened when snap shot should have happened, but didn't. So it would start the animation of a regular snipe, and at the end realize it shouldn't be casting snipe so it just wouldn't. 1.5 second cast time, still triggered GCD too, but no snipe at all, no damager and no followthrough proc obviosuly.
