  1. Well I can't speak for Eternalnight but one reason people get upset about inaccuracies being posted in this forum is that they get picked up on and propagated. A month from now someone will say something along the lines of "But strength also increases HP, I saw it on the forum somewhere ..." This doesn't matter so much on the general forum, where all sorts of rubbish is posted, but in the New Player Help forum the posts tend to be more factual ... well, some of the time Anyway, good post eternalnight, because as you well know it is a massively misunderstood topic despite there being a thorough explanation including secondary stats in the sticky fleet pass. But then if people read the posts in the sticky in the first place this forum would be a lot of quieter.
  2. Remember that 'taunt' isn't the be-all-and-end-all of grabbing aggro ... it is just the initial shortcut to get their attention. So, for example, if you are attacking enemy A, taunt enemy B, and carry on attacking A then B will run over and hit you for a little while but quickly return to whoever they were attacking in the first place. Taunt is to pull someone over and allows you time to hit them yourself to build up threat. If you don't hurt an enemy you won't keep their interest. So to answer your question, how do you maintain threat on a large group of mobs? Ideally you won't, because most of the group will be CC'd by your team mates, but if you have to then you will be using your AoE damage and AOE taunt abilities, mixed in with single target damage, single target taunt, and multiple target attacks to spread your damage around. Anyway, welcome to the game - as you've discovered it isn't WoW, so embrace that and enjoy the challenge of learning a new way of playing rather than hoping SWTOR will turn into WoW. How dull would it be if every game had the exact same mechanics? With all that said though, which class are you playing? Some classes are more geared towards single-target tanking while others are better at group tanking.
  3. Yep, good idea - nice and basic and so completely taken for granted by more experienced players. All new players should work out their role within a group stick to the basics outlined above, and remember: - If you're the tank and you die then it was the healers fault - If you're the healer and you die then it was the tank's fault - If you're DPS and you die then it was your fault
  4. Good post, and I mostly agree You will be judged on the name you choose but everyone has their own judgement when it comes to name. Me - personally - hate people who can't be original, and copy a name from somewhere else. I don't care if it is Starwars or any other established fiction, if you stole it then you have no imagination. Just make up a name, anything, and it will be better than yet another fiction-rip-off. Unlike OP though, I have no problem with a bit of humour. Darth Pancake made me smile. There are obvious limits to this though. What I don't like is when people try and make a sentence with their name, and include a star-warsy title. I've seen more than one "JediMasterMark/John/Dave" name running around the place. I guess they won't be using the title "Jedi" or "Master" when they actually achieve it because that would look even dumber ... Jedi JediMasterMark, or Master JediMasterMark.
  5. There wasn't a launcher link. That's the point. There was a launcher link to the website information page about the Rakghoul event, but that gave no information on when the event was ending (and didn't cross link to other sources of information). The only place that information was provided was in a single post, in a single thread, in the general forum ... and that certainly wasn't linked to from the launcher. To be clear, I found out the event was ending before it happened (but only with 4 days left so not long enough to focus on getting every item of gear), but there were a large number of people who didn't hear about the end date until after it had ended. I found the post by reading the 'dev posts' forum, but my point was that to expect players to come to a forum to get essential information about the game is poor communication. There are plenty of avenues for providing information, and any of these would be better than forcing players to come to a hostile and frankly bitter general forum.
  6. With respect, I can't imagine most people would bother googling a name when replying to a post. ... and if that was in reply to my post you missed the point. The previous poster put it more explicitly than me: you could just be suffering from perception bias. What I was saying was that if you rolled a Jedi Knight then you'd be complaining that all the drops were aim or willpower and not a single heavy strength item was dropping. There isn't an 'obvious favouring of certain classes' with loot drops, but random numbers can certainly seem like they're out to get you.
  7. Lack of people has pretty much zero impact on levelling progress ... that's what people keep trying to tell you but you keep ignoring. Or rather you aren't ignoring it, you just keep reciting it as a mantra as if it is true, despite everyone in this thread trying to help you realise you are wrong! That is also the reason the game is casual friendly - there is NO need to group to get to max level. You can quite happily play this game as a solo experience.
  8. SWTOR is probably one of the most casual friendly MMORPG's around! Most of the complaints are from the people that want a more hard-core experience. I myself am very lucky if I get to play 10 hours a week, normally it will be more 7 or 8, so I'm not just saying it to disagree with you. I think you probably have a very bad understanding of gear, and despite people telling you that the group quests are not necessary you carry on talking as if they are - and the sole reason for your troubles. If your gear is falling way behind the curve then it isn't do with not doing group quests, it will be something else. Either you're not using your planetary commendations, or you're not keeping any modifiable gear up to date (also with commendations), or you're selling the decent gear you get as quest rewards, or you're just choosing gear with the wrong stat (although I think that's unlikely, because you haven't expressed any stat confusion in your posts so I will assume you know which stat is your primary stat). No, you don't. You are wrong on this point. As already said, if you think your gear is below par then it will be for another reason and will have very little to do with not playing group quests. I said it before, but I'll say it again (and others have said it too) but it is pretty hard to be below level in this game IF you accept and complete every quest (except heroics), if you follow through on the bonus 'kill-x-of-y' sections of a quest, if you do the bonus series at the end of a planet AND if you don't stealth around every group of enemies. The only people reporting that they are under level are guilty of not doing one or more of those things. You are playing a stealth class, so I'd suggest that maybe you are sneaking past enemies rather than attacking them. Nope, it has nothing to do with PvP. So, seriously OP, it obviously has no impact on me whether you stay or go but the reasons you are giving for why you are behind the curve are wrong and needed correcting. Maybe if you take that on board and read what others have suggested, and try playing a little differently, then you will start enjoying the game. Or maybe you won't. Makes no odds to me.
  9. Yep - which is why I tend to use my Q key bound to "target closest enemy" more than any other method. Tab isn't great but I still use it . If I really don't care which target then I'll tab. At the start of a fight I'll click, and in the middle of a fight I'll Q.
  10. Well, if you've un-subbed AND quit I'm not sure why you'd then ask for advice, but I'll assume you're still around and actually want to play. Do a search, restricted to the new player help forum, to see the number of threads from people saying "I'm under-levelling" and then follow the advice given by all the replies. In summary: - don't stealth your way past enemies just to reach the objective. Stand and fight and do those mission bonus objectives - accept, and do, every quest - try and do as many of the mission bonus steps as you can ("kill X womprats") - do the bonus series on each planet If you do these things you will not be under level, and will be suffering from the opposite problem of being over level. At which point you can be more selective about which missions you accept, or how many of the bonus steps you complete. None of this requires the completion of the Heroic missions, PvP, space combat or flashpoints. They do give a nice boost but are not essential.
  11. Er, no. Diablo and SWTOR aren't the same kind of game. Some people don't like Diablo at all, some don't like SWTOR at all, and some like both. Maybe some portion of that last group will leave. Maybe.
  12. You should play a Jedi Knight, and then you'll think that all the drops are biased towards aim/cunning/willpower.
  13. They don't have to notify you, or give you a warning. You didn't really ask a question in your post and just stated a fact, but I am assuming you had an implied question of "Why did they remove me?". If that is the case the only people that can answer you is your guild.
  14. As others have said, using a click to target the enemy isn't usually the best way and there are key presses you can use instead. By default, TAB will target a random enemy and you can keep pressing it to cycle through all enemies. Under your keybinds, in preferences, you'll find an option for 'target closest enemy' which should be fairly self explanatory. Some people bind this to TAB and so just ignore the cycle-target, but another way is to bind it to Q (or any other key of your choice). There's also a 'target closest ally' which can be useful for healers, and I have mine bound to E.
  15. It is pretty staggering really how unaware BW seem to be about the whole PvP and PvE thing, and that for a lot of PvEers "No means NO". They seem to think (and act like) they can just allow people to be flagged against their will and it will all be ok ... as if the game is somehow fundamentally a PvP game and those that don't want to PvP are deluded and just need to be exposed more to realise the error of their ways. "Just slip them into PvP and they'll become hooked and realise it is for their benefit" Amazing really that they seem to keep falling for the same problem. They must have a very strong advocate of PvP on the team who just doesn't understand the PvE viewpoint. At all.
