  1. You're lumping story and solo play together. Yes, SWTOR has put more attention into story than any other mmo, it's the main draw of the game and it's to be expected from BW, a company known most for its stories. I'm pretty sure it gets a lot of players back each time it does a big story drop (I certainly come back for those). During those big story drops you have a chance to get those players involved with group play, so you need to find ways to encourage that naturally. Problem is, solo play really hasn't evolved- the newest dailies are outdated compared to the public quest system that GW2, WoW, FFXIV and even dead, old games like WAR use that merged solo dailies with potential group play. You have a tedious system for loot (Galactic Command) that turns people off of getting loot- while anything group related has players that are frankly d-bags to anyone who hasn't maxed their gear. Some of us are used to that and can ignore it- but I can see why for solo players that attempt to branch out it is an immediate turn off. If you can even use the system at all- it doesn't even work for non-subs, who have limited group play anyway. I don't mind the cosmetic crates and certain other parts of your f2p model EA, but putting limits on group play in a game that struggles to provide timely grouping is bad for everyone, yourselves included. I don't the problem is amount of group content- there's a massive number of current level FPs and Ops in this game considering. You could probably use another mode or two in PvP and GSF; but even there, I think you should consider League of Legends- for the first few years they had only two modes (and even then, everyone stuck to Summoner's Rift) yet it is one of the biggest games out there. Fun play and some balance go a long way. What I'm saying is- nobody likes arenas, ranked PvP is going to go nowhere. There's a reason it takes 3 hours in the arena queue to not get a match at all, while 30 seconds gets me into the regular WZ matches at any time of day except for like, really late at night. Add something enjoyable to ranked queues, and link FPs/Ops to solo content to get people interested, and solo play to group content (public quests). Frankly, WoW steals from everyone and perfects it- and their current daily world quest system is the best take on what is really a repetitive, dull grind with how they've done it in Legion- copy them, herd players to certain areas if you want them to play together, players won't just start grouping on their own that's not how it works.
  2. Only the more recent ones- where there's only dark/light side choices that permit you to keep certain companions. I did things I normally wouldn't to ensure I got the companion- but that's pretty much the only time I've broken character. Now, doing light on a dark side char, or dark on a light side I have done- but in character. Some of the light side choices are just stupid, and some of the dark side choices are purely sadistic rather than 'doing evil for smart reasons'.
  3. It's not fat shaming, mobs are just more drawn to the visual beauty of your toons' curves. You should take this as a complement, not an insult. While those disgusting skinnies are going unnoticed.
  4. How about no. KOTOR and KOTOR 2 are two of the best SW games to come out, while Battlefront may have been a bit weak, 2 is looking considerably better. SWTOR might not be the top end mmo it could have been- but it had a solid run with a lot of enjoyment to be had. Furthermore, Bioware has done a great job (for the most part) with SW stories- even if you want to high light some of their stranger tales, they don't compare to the almost Star Trek level of absurdity others have taken the franchise to. Bioware came up with Revan, who might be a bit overplayed now but it still likely the most iconic and known character in SW outside of the movies. While some of their endgame decisions don't sit well with me, and I still find pvp poorly balanced and CC to be a mess- they've done better things with the SW license than most. It feels like SWTOR is just understaffed now so we aren't seeing much growth or even fixing of problems. When it comes to alternative star wars outside the movie time frame, especially regarding the old republic era, BW has done a mostly great job- I can't think of a company that'd do a better job with stories and RPGs.
  5. The problem is they aren't using carrot and a stick- they've put the carrot fifty miles away, told you to walk there and that you need to pay them for the journey. It's not an interesting way to gear- hardcore players will reach it very quickly and have a year or two with no treadmill, killing their desire to play. While casuals may never reach it, will be bored the entire way, will be useless in pvp due to gear gaps- and many will probably feel like the system's so bad there's no point in grinding to 300 because it'll be inevitably changed before you reach it. If you had regular gear updates with reasonable requirements (3, 4 even 6 months) you'd keep hardcores on the treadmill- and you can use catch up mechanics to keep casuals a step behind. Think about it this way- cxp levels are 3-5k or so right? Dailies give what, 100cxp normally? 30 dailies to level up- that's doing like five planets worth of dailies. Even with the current boosted cxp that's about the limit of my patience for doing dailies- but imagine having to do that every day for three months to get to the second tier of gear in a four tier system. And I've been doing pvp with tier 1 gear and it's like being a glass noodle- even stepped into ranked and the immediate response was 'this player has garbage gear, we've automatically lost' from other players so don't tell me that the bolster system fixes gear gaps. (If I can even get a pvp match, which some days after 3 hours in queue while I do dailies it still hasn't popped) Prior to this bug, I came back to play the game solely for the story content after they'd had time to release a few new chapters or areas- but I'd never consider playing endgame for two reasons- one, you can't do it if you don't sub, and while a decent treadmill I might sub for- I'm not subbing for that fifty mile walk. Two- there's considerably better endgame systems out there, WoW and ESO and FFXIV feel so much more rewarding, I'd even consider Wildstar's better (if they didn't have an even greater population problem than SWTOR). It's not going to just be fixing the gearing system that'll make SWTOR great again- I think BW has done great work in making everything more accessible (better map, better LFG system, more centralized dailies) but there's work to be done still. Honestly, steal from what WoW is doing (they stole most of their ideas from everyone else after all)- corral players towards areas, it makes it seem like more are playing when everyone's together. Get rid of 'tagging' mobs- if you group everyone, but you're fighting for tags you have fixed one problem only to create another one, and trust me even if there's going to be some naysayers regarding it in the end it makes for a far more cooperative game. Add bonus objective with valuable rewards- you already have world bosses and dailies out there... but when you look at the map you wouldn't know it. One look at the map in Legion and you'll know exactly where to go and what you'll get for it. I know there's always pushback when WoW comes up- but Legion's been out for a year and is still extremely active in the world, and that's something I don't think any mmo has ever accomplished beyond vanilla or xpac launch months so attention should be paid to it. Honestly, I bought the CE for SWTOR and I loved it at first- and since I've played it on and off and would love to make this my main mmo- but it won't happen with Command as it is and I'm fairly certain that's the feeling of a lot of casual players and it's definitely the feeling of f2p players which- as much as the forums seem to loathe them for some reason- could create a bulk of players to make the game feel alive and queues feel reasonable. I've been in the pvp queue for the last hour without a pop- no matter how bad a gearing system is and how dull the activities to get to gear can be, it's going to beat a system where you can't do the content at all.
  6. The best part of bonus XP week is doing old content on alts and finding out how many bugs have been here for years- yes, this one is still bugged.
  7. One more thing- where I live, a single shift at minimum wage would get you half a year's play time. Sure, when you add it all up it seems like a lot of money- but when you consider you're paying the sub over time, it's honestly nothing.
  8. What would I do with a nice gaming rig besides play mmos? I haven't spent that much on SWTOR, but I've definitely spent way more than that on all my mmos combined over the past decade or so. So that's my form of entertainment- maybe 20/month on mmos when you include boxes and other purchases. Let's compare to friends without who go to the movies each weekend, cable tv and hit the club twice a week. I've never looked at mmos as something that costs me, but as something that saves me- and I probably spend more in the 2-3 months I'm too bored of mmos to touch them each year on games than I do in the rest. Let's face it, one day we're going to drop more on a single house repair or having to buy a new car due to something breaking down when we didn't want to than we did on a lifetime of mmo playing.
  9. I subbed for it, will probably stop playing once it goes away. There's no way I will do dailies at the absurdly low rate again- 75/quest really? An entire planet of dailies won't get me a single chest- and I'm at like galactic level 30 or so I only imagine it gets worse at max. I can't believe I'm saying this, ever, but look at WoW- they finally realized that people like feeling that rewards are in reach. Knowing I need to hit 300 to even start getting top end gear- that grind is so far out of reach it feels genuinely pointless, and it makes other activities like PvP feel horrible in the meantime. The way CXP is now though it actually feels like I have a shot of getting there- and I don't do operations, but I do pvp, starfighter, dailies and FPs so it is nice to know you can get gear by doing things you enjoy... It's just hard to enjoy something when the first shot at a reward is months away. Think about it BW- I know you won't keep values where they are, but they've got to be considerably higher than where they were before this bonus event.
  10. While it is easy to say it's simply fear and indoctrination, it's inaccurate. The Republic may offer each planet the ability to make their own rules and keep their own traditions, it also means having to cooperate with regimes that certain members may consider barbaric or even evil. Think about our own United Nations- which consists of nations that might execute citizens on a regular basis for doing what another nation might consider a basic human right. The Empire wouldn't have that- as evil or good as policies might be, they're going to be relatively stable from planet to planet; and while certainly from our perspective genocide and slavery would be in the evil part, we have to recall to the members of the Empire slavery would be considered efficient/bringing 'savages' into the empire, etc... while genocide of certain 'subhumans' would be tolerated, or if they're an enemy even celebrated. We have also seen this in the history of nearly every civilization- in fact, genocide and slavery still are commonplace in dozens of countries today. With that stability would come benefits though- efficient industry, a low cost bureaucracy and liquid assets. Decisions are made quicker, and generally corruption is lower due to a mix of patriotism, knowing the punishments are horrifying, and the realization since assets are considered the property of powerful sith lords- those sith are more likely to make sure nobody is cheating them. A massive democracy with so many differing views like the Republic, on the other hand, is rife with corruption- officials are stealing from the people who have little to protect them, punishments are often lax and drawn out with oversight committees that are just as corrupt not doing their jobs, and it's extremely inefficient. Throughout the Clone Wars animated series and the prequel movies, it comes up again and again how long it takes for the senate to decide on anything- and while this may be a different time, for the most part SWTOR mirrors much of the original trilogy. There's little to show that average citizens of the Empire are overly mistreated. They seem to have opportunity, education, healthcare, etc... Their society functions quite well, especially in core worlds- and they are raised on patriotism. It's most likely the most mistreated in the society are slaves- and while there are numerous revolts on a regular basis no doubt, they are separated specifically for the reason of preventing something large scale and potentially dangerous from occurring. You also have to realize, the average civilian might own a gun- but the military has ships, military equipment, WMDs- any civilian level revolt would be a joke to the ruling military and sith lords.
  11. No conversation that starts with 'I report people when they help me', which as absurd as it sounds, is EXACTLY what the OP is saying- can possibly devolve any lower. The OP's insistence that everyone should be able to read his mind and know he is part of the 1% who gets furious when they are helped is beyond nonsensical. OP, if you want others to act in a way that is completely contrary to what is a natural behaviour for people- it is up to YOU to say 'please don't help me'. Not up to them to figure out you're so anti-social you can't even handle interacting with people in a video game.
  12. I agree with the OP. Sometimes in real life, when I'm just trying to mind my own business walking down the sidewalk, some old person will smile and say hello to me. Look old lady, I'm just trying to walk here, and you come up and start interfering with my ability to walk in silence how I like. I didn't ask for you to say hello to me. Naturally, I do the most logical thing and call the cops so they can sort it out.
  13. People are actually so deluded they think guys are going to stim and augment for normal WZs? Now, with augments at least you can be using the same shells all the time- but even so, it costs a crapton of money; most players won't have that, and those that don't do dailies (aka- anyone who prefers playing games for fun) will take months to augment out on the pathetic amount of creds you get doing pvp. If BW meant pvpers to augment and stim- they'd give you the resources to do so. And yes yes, you of course know how to make millions of creds a day using the GTN or the right crew skills- but 90% of players do not, so for them its either a slow trip, or a repetitive grind. And you're talking about something miniscule- the real difference is the 800+ stat and 25% dps difference between top end and entry level gear. The gap is massive- and the augments and datacrons barely touch it. Regardless- normal WZs are meant for everyone, which is why anyone can enter them. They've paid for the game, they're not going to just stop playing because they don't have twenty hours a week to gear up fully- and stims for normals? Pretty sure you're joking at that point.
  14. But why would Bioware do something that would please a large portion of their playerbase? That wouldn't be characteristic of them.
  15. To those who like dogfighting with a kb and mouse- perhaps. But not everyone enjoys that. Clearly all those playing GS's would disagree with you.
