Frankly, the main issue is the world's are just too big for the content included. Many times I seem to get only a small number of quests for each screen of a planet. So basically I could spend 5 minutes running to one side of the map to do 2 quests, 5 more minutes running back, then it sends me onto the next area. Those 5 minutes you spend running there is very little around you. Areas should be loaded with many times more quests (but giving less XP than currently), or the maps should be cut to about 1/3 of the size. In it's current state you spend 3/4 of your time running around, and only 1/4 of it actually doing anything!

I had this issue and reading that has fixed it. I rebound space to the quickbar and experienced the crashing, then bound it back to jump and it seems to have fixed! Your double keybind suggestion should work fine.
