  1. Everyone is bashing this guy for telling the truth. Does SWTOR look better than WoW? Yes, but not by much. Even still, a 10 year old PC can run WoW better than a 1 year old PC can run SWTOR. Not trying to brag, but my PC is a 3rd generation core i5, Graphics is a GTX 680, 16 GB of RAM and I'm using an SSD drive. The game loads slow and I get choppiness on the fleet. It should be faster than that.
  2. I was in the exact same boat. I transferred 3 of my 4 stranded toons so far. I used my stipend CCs. I will have enough for the 4th next month. It should have been free for the first time. You can choose a destination server and move everyone there for free. Assuming you were here for the first round of server mergers. I've had to change character names so many times already it isn't funny.
  3. I agree with you 100%. I did spend all of my CC"s to move my characters though. I moved 3 so far and will have enough to move the 4th next month (or sooner). The funny thing is, I don't even care any more. This game is basically dead to me. I only moved them because I saved up all my CC's to do just that. They waited about a year too long for this service. It should have been free for us like you said. I want something else to play, I literally fall asleep while I'm playing this game. I can't make it more than an hour.
  4. I think it's clear that they are waiting for the dust to settle from the APAC transfers and then the same-area transfers. Unless it has something to do with the price difference.
  5. The cost is relatively cheap for 1 toon, but can get very expensive for several. They definitely need a "Legacy Transfer" for 5000 CC's or so. All of your character to the same server. That being said, there really should be a 1 time free option for players who meet certain criteria. My suggestion is the following. IF you have a character that was moved during one or more of the mergers, you can move it once for free. This would be true for all of your characters that were forced to move (due to EA/Bioware issues of making too many servers and everyone quitting). But... All of your "free" moves have to go to the same server. So basically, you pick a server and any toon that was forced to move last year can be moved to the selected server for free. Of course, all future moves cost the normal amount. A slight modification of this could be that you get one free move if your character was created before a certain date (ie. before the forced moves).
  6. So my brother and I tried to do this quest as a 2-man group. The adds absolutely destroyed us. About 4 or 5 tries into it, we got close to beating the first wave of adds, but that's it. There was about 6 or 8 silvers and another 6 or 8 mobs hitting us all at once. He is a sniper, I am a healer. I decided to do it solo, and it was 10 time easier. The first wave was only like 3 or 4 regular mobs. I know they amp up the difficulty for the group of 2, but it was a night and day difference. Has anyone done this quest as a 2-man group?
  7. I'm not trying to be an apologist for EA/Bioware, because they have made a lot of mistakes but... Software is not easy. Making release dates is not easy. The amount of changes they get out in the brief timeframe they have is actually quite large (given the small crew they have to work with). You'll get over them being late, it's not the end of the world. And if the world really does end before this patch is released, I guess you'll should thank them because you were out doing something more constructive with your time.
  8. It does suck. The first time there were mergers, I lost all of my names. The second time there were mergers, I was lucky enough to be on a destination server. But guess what, someone from one of the other servers had the name longer than me and I had to change my name again. Nothing like losing your name twice. I'm going to lose it a third time with the new transfers probably. They really should just force the First Name + Legacy Name to be unique.
  9. I have some questions still. First, thank you for posting this. Second, the price isn't bad. Now my questions. 1) Are we free to go from anywhere to anywhere? 1a) Are we free to go from PVP <-> PVE servers? 1b) Are there restrictions based on server pops? 2) Are there going to be discounts for account transfers? Meaning, if I have multiple characters I want to transfer, is there an account cost for all of them? Like a global unlock? So all of your characters for 5000 coins or something like that? 3) Just a minor annoyance, why don't legacy levels stack? I mean, there is legacy experience already accounted for, just sum it up. Even with that, it still isn't really enough, since you have to make a certain point before even collecting the legacy. At least the legacy experience should add up. This is minor to me and not worth a delay, just thought that would be easy to implement in the first place. Thanks for the info!
  10. I disagree with this. CCs are money. People pay money for them. Some do it directly, others though the monthly fee. You could argue that the stipend is free, but it isn't. They (the moderators) have already stated that new features that are not free for paid players are done so because we can use our stipend of CCs to get them. So instead of giving us free new content, they give us paid content and CCs to offset it. So the CCs do equal real money for everyone. I also don't think server hopping should be considered a problem, since other MMO's can allow it. That being said, I do not have a problem with limiting the transfers. For example, anyone with existing characters can transfer them 1 time for CCs, after that it is cash only. Any new player would be forced to use cash. I think that this solution would solve both of our problems. People would not have "free" transfers more than once. The people that have been trapped on servers they don't want to be on, get to get off for "free". My characters are scattered since everyone I have played with has quit (except for my most recent server). I never wanted to move my characters, but I want to play with friends. Charging me real money will not work. I won't pay it. I'll leave the characters stranded and unplayed. Eventually, I'll just quit the game anyway.
  11. I see you didn't post about server transfers but understand that the plan is 2.2. I understand you can't give a specific date. That being said, please comment on the prices. Surely that has been decided. Price per character, per server, per account? More importantly, can we use cartel coins? I've been saving all of my coins. If cartel coins will not be allowed, I'd like to know that now. Also, if coins are not allowed, I would like a reason. Also, will transfers be allowed across server types. PVE -> PVP, PVP -> PVE, etc. Since we are just waiting for the code bugs to be worked out, throw us a bone with some info. Thanks.
  12. It's good news that character transfers are finally close. I know the plan is 2.2 but it might be a little later. I know you can't comment on the exact date. 13. It was too cheap before. I don't like it either, but it is more realistic. Think of it in real world terms. Think of how long it takes you to make the credits to go from one planet to the next. What is it, like 10 minutes? Now think how long it takes in real life to earn enough cash to drive 200 miles away. I'm guessing longer than 10 minutes. Look what Luke and Obi Wan had to do to hitch a ride with Solo. They had to sell their speeder. Traveling isn't cheap, that's a lot of fuel and wear and tear. Just be happy that you don't have to start the game over after you die each time.
  14. I'd just like to point out that patch 1.2 was legacy which came out 4/12/2012. The game had been out 5 months by then. The servers were already having issues. Also, a merge is a transfer. They moved the characters from server A to server B. This is all a transfer is. Just you get to pick where you want to go instead of being told where to go. If you do a quick search on the words "server transfer" just in the titles of the forums, you will see that the first thread was posted 12/16/2011, which was almost 5 months before the legacy patch. By June 29th, there were 297 threads with the words "server transfer" in the title. So it isn't that I don't think they have reasons for failing, it's just that I don't care what their reasons are as they are not excusable. Clearly this service should have been high priority.
  15. I actually know a lot about software development. WoW was a pioneer in the industry and SWTOR copied them. When SWTOR was released, WoW had server transfers for (I don't know? 8 maybe) years. And WoW still had a humongous player base. When SWTOR decided to copy WoW, they should have known from the get-go that server transfers were required. That is what I meant by needing it from the beginning. They should have known it would have been a desirable service. As far as legacy goes, they knew they needed server transfers before legacy even made it to production. They should have designed their software for it right off the bat. If they designed legacy with no concept of transfers, shame on them. That being said, they already did server mergers after legacy existed. I'm not naive enough to think that no work was necessary to get it right, but it has been plenty long enough now. You are correct that the servers aren't empty now (except some not in Europe or US), but the damage has been done already. People have had stranded characters for almost a year now. It isn't that those characters are on empty servers, it's that none of their friends are on those servers, cause they already left.
