I'm sitting on about 4mil. I don't have a 50 either. Nor do I do dailies or PvP. It's solely from crafting.

Not only is Torian pretty young, he's also pretty boring to romance. It probably didn't help I had ~8k affection before the end of Chapter 2 and I got all my flirts with him in a row. Also, my BH called him "kid" a few times before I got him as a companion and I cringed every time she said it, since I knew he was my only option for romance.

I'm my own best healer, I use Torian now that I got him (at level 35, I went to Taris to do the class quests only) and he's fine for my tank/DPS. I'm fully spec'd into healing as I level for PvP, heroics and FP's. I haven't used Mako since I got Gault. Although, Mako and I were invincible together. There isn't any one best companion for everyone. It's playstyle dependent.

FWIW, I'm leveling as BG and I used Gault as soon as I got him and I switched to Torian now. I don't do much damage in fights, I choose to sit back and heal my companions. They kill just fine. I loved having Mako too, we were pretty much invincible
