  1. OP, great post and I think it would make a world of difference. I've got my own problems with the game, but more community interaction from the devs would only help people stick around.
  2. Let me start by saying this is all my own opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. I bought the game shortly after release in late Jan of this year. I didn't really follow the game during development or anything, I had just heard about it through some friends and on other MMO forums. I played for the first month i believe, got a jedi sent to 48 I think, then decided not to re-sub. For me, there were just to many things I didn't care for. Things such as how restrictive the classes were. I later came back for another month or two and leveled a JK guardian to 50. I'm not a fan of tanking or healing, so obviously DPS is where I drift to. This is star wars. I need a light saber. Now, i'm not sure why but, I don't like having to use two light sabers. I also didn't want to use a two handed light saber. So at this point, after roaming the forums and such, I can either be a guardian or sage. And apparently as a sage, you don't use your light saber. So for the character that I wanted to play, I was forced into a class/spec I didn't really like. I ended up just dealing with the sentinel, obviously. When I couldn't play the character that I wanted to, this was the first red flag. This was the first thing that began to turn me away from this game. All I wanted to do, was to play your typical jedi from all the other games/movies, and look the part. Which brings me to my second issue. The armor design. Completely rediculous. I don't even know how to describe my feelings toward the armor in this game. It's just...well, terrible. That's my opinion, of course, but I think there are many others out there that feel the same way. The game in general just feels stale. A WoW clone, 110%. If people like it this way, so be it. But I don't think anyone can honestly say it worked out for BW and EA. There's really nothing original to be said about this game. Full voice acting? Well yeah, great, on the first run through. How much money did they drop on this alone? Did no one think about the replay value of having to hear 90% of the same stuff over and over again? Companions? Oh cool, a mandatory companion. All that really did was make your own character weaker because, technically, you're never on your own. Now in BWs defense, the class story, atleast the JKs, is pretty good. I enjoyed it for the most part. But every other part of the game is not only terrible, it's an embarrassment to the whole MMO genre. It shows how little originality went into making this game. Copy the bread and butter from WoW, have BW throw in the voice acting and story telling, profit. Like I have already stated, this is all my opinion, and whether you like the game or not, I don't think anyone can actually say that this game is not a WoW clone. Yes they added their own flavor, oh and of course some star wars, but it's basically WoW in space. Nothing original, the game brings nothing new to the genre. If anyone reading this is enjoying the game, i'm happy for you. The game itself isn't -to- terrible. What ultimately stops me from playing and enjoying the game is the fact that it could have been, should have been, so much more than what it is. Just a WoW clone with light sabers. I'm not a fan of PvP, gear grind (or even gear itself really), or end game raiding. But to be honest, none of these have anything to do really with why I don't enjoy the game. Pretty sad that simple things like armor and class design and lack of any type of custimization, other than basic character generator, is turning me away, rather than gear grind, which normally does it for me.
  3. Like others said, City of Heroes got it right. Pretty much any group made up of any classes/ATs and powersets could succeed. GW2 tried to do away with the whole trinity but it didn't really work all that well. It didn't exactly fail, imo, just not what everyone expected to begin with I think. I like the fact that when grouped up, in GW2, you're more responsible for yourself. Don't have to worry about if the healer is competent or if they're specced right. I personally don't care for the trinity at all and hope that future MMOs find their own original ways of dealing with it. But i'm also one of those MMOs players who can't stand end game raiding, gear grind, or even gear for that matter. To bad City of Heroes is the only one that did it for me.
  4. So I decided to check the game out again after leaving awhile back. After subscribing again I decided to buy one of those cartel packs off the market, the more expensive one, and I got a purple crystal! Well pink-purple, but still I wanted one of these ever since I first started playing almost a year ago. But I was on a mid level sent when I got it. When i hover the mouse over the crystal it says it's bound, but red text tells me it's bound for like 1.5 days. I assume i'll be able to transfer it to an alt once the timer expires, which i hope, but once I equip it will it be bound to that character or is there any chance it will be account bound? Probably a stupid question, but purple crystals are hard to find
  5. My question would be regarding gear and a few things about the jedi classes. First, is the type of gear that's in the game right now (the way they look) the stuff we should expect for the future? Or is there any chance of getting something different, preferably something simpler looking with less shoulder pads/spikes/etc. And whats up with the huge butts on many body types? Second, why can't i play a jedi shadow with a single saber? Or a sentinel with a double bladed saber? Sorry if they've made statements about this already but this has to be the biggest problem i have with the game so far. There any chance of letting classes, to atleast an extent, pick what weapons they would like to specialize in? Maybe a guardian with a double sided saber, bounty hunter with a rifle, gunslinger with just one pistol...I don't know about everyone else but i would love this change. Without a doubt, there are quite a few things about this game i don't like, but the level of custimization we get over our characters has to be the worst thing about it. I'll never understand how they expect people to pay 15$ a month to play their game, well before f2p, but we get very little control over our characters. The only other MMO i've really played is City of Heroes/Villains so maybe character custimization is a little more important to me than others, but i really do feel that the customers having more control over their characters could really help this game. So i gues, really, my question is just are there any plans for more character custimization for the future?
  6. Thanks for all the great advice! Started queing for a few HM flashpoints last night and things generally went smoothly. Gues im just gona keep on grinding for better gear, thanks again everyone.
  7. That does help, thanks! Columi gear, will i be able to rip the mods out and put in my current gear? Same with the recruit gear?
  8. I just recently dinged 50 on my JK guardian and at first i expected to just pretty much put her on the shelf and move on to an alt. Turns out i have to much fun on that toon and can't just shelf her lol. This is my first 50 and i've heard alot about dailies, HMs (hard mode flashpoints i'm guesing?), OPs (operations, obviously?), and ultimately gearing yourself out. I just have a few questions about these things, among other things. Figured this would be the best place to ask. 1. I've started running the dailies on correlia, belsavis, and ilium. I've heard these are the only spots for them, is this correct? Also, with all the daily commendations i went ahead and bought the purple guardian hilt and all the purple armoring i need from the daily vendors on these worlds, i didn't waste those did i? And whats the next thing i should be saving up those commendations for? 2. The hardmode flashpoints. I haven't started doing any of these yet, partly because im not sure if i'm "geared out" enough to be useful to the group. Are there unspoken requirements that groups generally look for? I'm a vengance guardian and will be using the group finder to que up for dps spots so as not to be expected to tank. 3. Kind of ties into question 1 but, is there certain gear i should aiming for? On the fleet i've looked at rakata, tionese, black hole, things like that, but don't know how to get the commendations for these and i hate how they look. The mods are really what matter and i'll be able to just pull them out and put them in what i currently have, correct? All the other 50s i see running dailies, many have 18-20k endurance, while i sit at 16-17k. Really makes me wonder how to make it that far. 4. Finally, getting credits. Just running the dailies a good amount has been flowing in, but i've got my eye on a purple lightsaber crystal on the market, and they seem to go for 1-2mil . Im almost at 400 synthweaving, same with archeology and underworld trading, is there a good way to get some credits through this? Selling crafted items doesnt seem to really be the answer, i think, as the time invested in getting the materials, then waiting to craft them, when they only sell for 20-50k, if they sell, on the market. Honestly, i haven't given getting credits to much thought so i could be wrong, and crafting and selling is the answer. Or is just selling groups of high end crafting material the way to go? Also, for my companion i've been running with doc for heals. Got him geared out with the best level gear i could find, and afford, on the market. Focused on cunning. That the way to go? Or should i buy him some orange gear and invest more heavily into gearing him up? And are there certain mobs, places that a purple crystal might drop? I know they're rare but any tips on how to get them other than buying off the market? Think that's all thats been bugging me lately, sorry if this is the wrong spot to be asking questions like this or if these questions have been asked many times. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. edited for spelling
  9. Meh, its star wars, have to go with a jedi lol. Thanks for the suggestion though
  10. Yeah im watchmen spec on my 45 sent and those self heals were nice at first, but after awhile i dont know i still felt to squishy. After playing a shadow tank there's no way i could go back to feeling as squishy as my sent, or even squishier for that matter.
  11. Wow, well that's surprising. Why would they be the tanks and sentinels be pure dps then?
  12. Recently rolled a knight and decided to go guardian this time, got a sentinel to 45 and got tired of feeling so squishy. Wasnt sure i would like being a tank but i've also been playing a shadow, tank spec, and loved it so figured a guardian would be fun, and it is so far, only 21 as of now though. My biggest problem with the class, and from reading around the forums i dont think im alone in this, is the way the gear looks. Not a fan of any of the heavy armor orange gear. Ive read around the forums that some people just get some medium orange gear and keep it up with mods and its not really a big difference. I've done this, but can't help but feel like im gimping myself and any groups i join. Is this just me or does it really make a big difference to use heavy over medium? Just the chest slot too, definetly wearing heavy for everything else. I've also been kind of lost on what form to use. While im leveling i'm trying to go up the vig tree and then jump to the defense tree (far left one, don't recall the name). As of now i've got a few points in the defense tree for sundering strike stacking one extra focus and for 99% chance of making...saber something (sorry, name escapes me right now, the ranged attack you get early on) cost no focus. Thats it for defense, rest is going into vig until overhead slash i think it's called, heard that was a good attack for adding dps. But the forms, which should i be running the majority of the time? Should i even put points towards getting the third form from vig tree? And should i change my priority to the leveling the defense tree first and then vig? Gues that's pretty much it. Loving guardians so far, just hate the way it looks lol. But yeah, thanks in advance for any help and feel free to throw some free tips my way about guardians. Also, purely pve, not very interested in pvp at all as of now.
  13. Thanks all for the great advice. Decided on keeping it simple and going jedi knight, not sure about sent or guard but i gues ill figure it out at 10 lol. Thanks again for the advice everyone. And seehorse, scrappers and brutes on pinnacle for me, 7 year vet as well lol.
  14. Just started playing swtor and i've been reading up on the different types of classes and have some questions about classes among other things. First, i've been trying to decide on a jedi class to roll, and stick, with. Im really not interested in PvP that much, never really been my thing. So for pretty much pure PvE what jedi class would you suggest for a new player?Would mainly like some good dps, never been fond of tanking or healing. I've been looking at jedi knight sentinals but I see quite a few negative posts about them but i think they might be refering to PvP sentinals, not really sure. Second, gear. The only other mmo i've played is city of heroes, so gear is kind of daunting to me. I've read around other parts of the forums to focus on getting orange gear with commendations and modding them. Is that the way to go for all classes and where would i find vendors for orange gear and the mods for them? Last is about crew skills. Are there any specific combinations that mesh better with certain classes over others? Honestly, i have no clue as to what to do with crew skills so any information about them will be helpfull. Sorry if this is the wrong section to be posting this in or if there are guides out there for these questions, looked around the forums and still had questions. Any information, help, or tips will be greatly appreciated.
