  1. Hmmm. Are you just talking about for the Merc? The Powertech has a few extra flamethrower based abilities. The problem with the Merc relying heavily on the flamethrower is that the Merc is a "long" ranged fighter and the flamethrower is a close range ability. If you want more flamethrower abilities then the Powertech would be more to your liking. They get flame burst (a quick flame blast), flamethrower (same as Merc), and flame sweep (point blank AOE). They also get a few abilities in the skill trees that are more flame based (Incendiary Missle, Immolate, and Heat Blast?). The Merc is more blaster and missle based, while the Powertech is more flame based (with less blaster and missles attacks). The jet pack is also used with Death From Above and if you have the legacy ability Rocket Boost (correct ability?). Honestly looking at all of the abilities in all (and there are really a lot of them), there are a good number of both flamethrower (mostly on Powertech) and jet pack abilities. Although both are very "iconic" for Bounty Hunters, they are not the only items they used and therefor the abilities need to be at least partly spread out between blasters, flamethrower, missles, and jet pack (plus a few others).
  2. I assume the OP is wanting the Imperial Trooper armor on the Cartel Market? The reason that the Imperial Trooper armor is not on GTN is because it is bind on pick up, preventing the CE players from trading it at all (even among their own characters). I am not sure why any player would want to RP an Imperial Trooper, as an above poster points out, they are treated as cannon fodder, just a step above droids (if that). The Imperial Trooper set is great for companions though (especially Quinn, Lt. Pierce, and Talos). I am mixed on taking it from the CE vendor and "replacing it with something else". First CE vendor is suppose to have CE only items (giving CE owners exclusive items) and what makes the next item not be nice for the CE owner but not wanted by others? I wouldnt mind seeing CE vendor modified (heck a few new items would be real nice) from "exclusive items" to new items first and for less. Would make the vendor valuable to CE owners and hopefully prevent item envy.
  3. This is something that I have been pondering myself. I was wondering if...
  4. I can understand the desire for the ability to play a Imperial Trooper but honestly they have a shorter lifespan then a freed mouse ( ). Imperial Troopers are just a step above slave or droid and a frequently sent on suicide missions or executed (either for some failure or because the Sith felt like it). The soldiers on the Republic side (which is why the Trooper class works) is viewed as more valuable (and even they often get a raw deal). The other question is what would make the class different than the other classes (and not a second mirror of the Trooper/Bounty Hunter). I think if people wish to be more of a part of the Sith military, besides the Agent then a better choice would be a military officer (start out as a squad leader and work your way up to a General or Moff). This could be done as a new class ("pet class" with your own soldiers or maybe a buff/debuff class) and would give people the chance to play a Sith military character (besides the Agent).
  5. I can name one thing I like about him... He is voiced by the same actor who does the voice for Tychus Findley. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3iDAIQTNb0
  6. Well I think TalonVII, Seelvir, and SuperGrunt are missing (or I am not stating it well enough) about what seems to be the military training and advancement ideology in Star Wars. While there are Military Academies in Star Wars (as evident by both Old Republic and Original Trilogy) there does not seem to be SEPERATE academies or training for enlisted soldiers and officers. As TalonVII states Han Solo went to a Imperial Academy and was given the rank of Lieutenant on leaving. But TalonVII does not state is that Han Solo's friend Soontir Fel was in the same class and left the academy as... a TIE Fighter pilot (not an officer). It appears that in Star Wars there is no seperate training facilities for enlisted or officers. There seems to be no seperation of both untill after graduation. Nor does there seem to be a redily access for enlisted soldiers to become officers (the Trooper, Jorgan, and Garza all followed this path). Again, yes there are military academies but there seems to be no seperation of enlisted and future officers at those military academies. Yes there is a chain of command. But unlike in the US military it is much less defined and fluid. Garza is in charge of Havoc Squad and yet later gets command of both the Safcrackers and an Armored Battalion. There is even a Republic force stuck on Voss under the command of A Senator and the Jedi Knight eventually becomes a General in charge of some Republic soldiers. The chain of command seems a lot more fluid then the US military. I know in Act of Valor there was that great moment when the space ship came down and rescued the squad. Or when they had to disable the shield generator, sensors, and droids, and then take down the Sith Warrior... [/sacrcasm] Again, trying to shoehorn real life into a fantasy setting does not work. There are things in fantasy settings (and things that are missing) that make real life tactics, organizations, ect. not work/fit. Please tell me of a state that left the US that wasnt part of the Civil War. FYI, there is a prescribed manner in which states can join per the Constitution, not one for leaving. In the US the Federal Government can take control of state militias and give them direct orders (Little Rock). In the Old Republic it does not appear to be so (Garza has to negotiate with CorSec for their assistance, the Trooper has to ask for assistance on Alderaan, and the Republic is on Ord Mantell because the leaders of Ord Mantell request it). The US can also send the National Guard to foreign lands by order of the Federal Government, but you dont see that in the Old Republic (only Republic soldiers go to other planets, not CorSec, ect). They would also fail you for not giving the direct quote and not giving the exact source for others to be able to verify. And of course a game is a valid resource? Unfortunately Wiki (or Wookiepedia) is probably the only source outside of capturing video from the game.
  7. Well Seelvir if I gave darn about what you think then I would be devastated, but since I dont and you lack any support to your opinion then I dont give a darn... FYI, although they use similar words, they dont use the same ranks. Does Garza command thousands of troops like a modern day General (per US military since most only seem to think that is the ONLY military to ever exist) or recieve the same exact wages and benefits? Nope, then they didnt translate the "exact definition" of General according to you. FYI Websters dictionary: General (noun) 1. a military officer ranking just above lieutenant general: also full general 2. a military officer ranking above colonel. Notice how the rank General has a more broad definition than the specific definition used by the US military? Please broaden your knowledge and you might not be so offended that a fantasy world does not exist according to your narrow ideology based upon ONE existing military. Unless they created a unique language used through out the whole genre then they HAVE to borrow existing words, ideas, and sometimes definitions. Dont expect them though to only rely on a narrow definition set by you or others. Besides the fact that during the Trooper story your character never stops for a while (typically years) to go to officer training school? Or you could check Garza's wookipedia entry: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Elin_Garza Notice a lack of the mention of officer training? You could also check out Aric Jorgan: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aric_Jorgan Again no mention of office training when transfered to Ord Mantell. Can you name any officer training school in the Old Republic? There is never a mention of them, just where the trooper (and theoretically most troopers) recieved his training and starts our as a Sergeant. So who is Garza's superior? She recieves orders from the Supreme Chancelor, the Sentate, other Generals, and at the same time ignores them without any penalty. If there is an central authority then why does Ord Mantell have its own military? And Corellia have its own para-military (its really a military, but in the game you dont see the full extent) organization (CorSec)? If there is a central authority then why has it not been defined? If you look at the Old Republic you will notice that it IS much more like the UN then the US. Again most planets have their own military/security. When some planets are attacked all of the remaining planets are NOT required to send military units/support for its defense (you dont see CorSec on Ord Mantell, nor Ord Mantell soldiers on Corellia). Planets join and leave the Republic by the vote of their own peole, not by the approval of the Chancellor or the Senate. Some planets have their own laws that do not exist through out the rest of the Republic (Alderaan). One of the main themes is the difference between the Republic and the Sith Empire. The Republic is decentralized, independant.. The Sith Empire is centralized, orderly, and with very little autonomy given to planets. Are you saying that realy world militaries (especially the US which most are basing it on) are organized the same way? That the ranking goes Private, Specialist, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General? In that exact order? Doesnt the US have 1st and 2nd Lieutenants? Lt Colonel, Lt Generals, Sgt Majors, Master Sergeants, numerous rankings of Specialist? The developers used terms that you might be familiar with and developed their own heirarchy for their fantasy world. Again, you are attempting to directly translate one military heirarchy to a fantasy world which the creators did not directly translate that one military's heirarchy. I think one major flaw that people who complain about the Star Wars military is that they are only comparing it to the US or other modern militaries based off of the US military. It is quite possible that the creators/developers used an earlier military (and probably simplified it) heirarchy. I find more similiarities with the British Empire's military than modern militaries.
  8. First, Star Wars is not real life. Never try to inject real life into a fantasy setting (and NEVER inject physics into a anime, it causes a cat-girl to die!). Second, the Republic military is NOT the US or ANY known Earth military (at best it is kind of like the British military around the time of the British Empire and World War 1, and a little as the Aliies in World War 2 as below). The Republic military has a galaxy wide Army, Navy, Special Forces, Military Intelligence, ect. and then most planets or sectors have their own military (Army, Navy, Special Forces, ect). The Republic military has no "non-commisioned officers vs officer school graduate officers" (Sergeants vs Lieutenants and up). It appears that all military personell recieve the same basic training and if deemed worthy of promotion to the rank of officer recieve it (if they recieve additional training or if they all have basic leadership training is unknown). The Republic military leadership is not very cut and dry and therfor does not have the simplicity that the US military does (it could be compared to the Aliies of World War 2). The Republic militray lacks the US military's central authority and cohesion. Republic military personell deemed important could be given higher ranking to ensure that it is less likely an officer not directly affiliated with that persons direct command cannot as easily "pull rank" and hijack or derail a mission (much like how Eisenhower was made a 5 Star General, even though the rank didnt actually exist before then, so he could use his special rank to keep the other military leaders in line). By putting a General in charge of the Special Forces, Garza could not be "comandeered" for the use of some far-flung military. And by giving Havoc Squad an officer of significant rank also allows him/her more authority to put the squads resources where felt to be best, and if need be comandeer local military personell.
  9. Well seeing the patch notes for 1.4 it appears that only Incendiary Rounds and Assault Plastique were brought to a 10m range (from their original 30m range). I currently play an Assault (DPS) Vanguard and can see where this will really hurt Assault. I can in some ways understand the change, Vanguards (and Powertechs) are meant to be close combat fighters and both abilities at 30m (and Hammer Shot, Full Auto, Explosive Rounds, ect) made them very capable to stay beyond 10m. The problem is now every melee class and talent tree has a "gap closer" except Assault (cant count Harpoon as it is one target, does not affect some NPCS and PCs in PvP, and has a very high cooldown). Even Shield Specialist has Storm (talent) and Tactics has Battlefield Training (talent). Before Assault would lack an "gap closer" but made up for it with 2 talents that worked beyond 10m. If this change remains permanent then Assault needs a new talent (and for more than one reason - they currently also lack a tier 5 special ability unlike the other trees). Why not give Assault a new tier 5 talent that acts as a "gap closer"? Either a different style of Storm or a sprint type ability. They can either drop Rain of Fire to a 2 point talent or Assault Trooper to 1 point and link them to the new talent (or to each other; ie make Assault Trooper 1 point but you must have three ranks of Rain of Fire). At the current design it makes Assault tree rather lackluster (though it might make it less the "Iwinbutton" tree or "favor of the month").
  10. Head back the way you came? Are you sure that is the right path? I dont think the mission is bugged but that you are doing the wrong thing. Once you plant the last bomb I think you need to go "forward" through a new path, not back. I think there is still one last fight and a different elevator to take you back, not going back through the way you came. That might be your problem. (I should recall this better since I finished the mission recently)
  11. 100% agree with jarjaloves on switching current classes around. To take (especially force) a class with a existing story and change it at this stage would be a BIG mistake. Keep the classes as is and add new mirrors for a third faction (though I would love to see the SIS Agent... maybe add a fifth class for it?) On the thought of a third faction: I would go with a new criminal organization/cult. An organization that has operated quietly until recently and has a grudge against both the Republic/Jadi and Empire/Sith. I was thinking of having it consist of "failed" force users (those who dont really have much force strength like Guss Tuno) who have been "enhanced" with experimental cybernetics. The cybernetics could be "displayed" as part of their equipment (armor and weapons). The others would be grunts and operatives without force powers from either crminal backgrounds or association with the "failed" force users. The Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior would be a "Devotee" with enhancements that mirror the force powers and weilds a vibrosword (with Lightsaber resistant materials). The Jedi Consular/Sith Inquisitor would be a "Prodigy" who manipulates various cybernetic "systems" to attack with (their project/lightning would be weapons they project from them selves: ie blades, energy prjectiles, ect). The Trooper/Bounty Hunter would be a "Hired Gun" who much like the Bounty Hunter is there for profit over ideology (though could be a branch in their story to go either way). The Smuggler/Imperial Agent would be a "Courier" who is a cross between the Smuggler and Imperial Agent in transporting secretive information and eliminating adversaries. The only disadvantage of a third faction is the posibility of 2 v 1 conflicts, ect.
  12. I have to agree with ShadowNesse. But for these reasons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYVIs-Z1LM8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIP0l7elXR8
  13. Can you point me to a working matter/anti-matter power generator and show me how much energy it is producing on a regular basis? How do we know that the energy produced is any considerable amount? If anti-matter power is so awesome why does it use plasma conduits to transfer power, when plasma is "such an old technology", and why is the backup power system (typically a battery system, possibly deuterium) capable of operating the ship for an extended time if anti-matter is so much energy out put? Are Star Wars ships really just Fusion/Fission power? Or are they anti-matter or maybe hypermatter or maybe tibana powered super tech? Again you make an assertion which has little to back it up and much that contradicts it. Check the DS9 episodes (especially the final battle) and you see several Galaxy Class starships (some of which had planety of time to prepare for battle, ie seperate) with their saucer section attached. if the writers/directors of Star Trek cant keep with their own canon, cant expect others to really expect it to stay the same (who knows, maybe they were getting rid of the concept of seperation, or limiting it to the Enterprise). In the hands of an expert a pen knife is deadly also, doesnt mean it is a good weapon. The batleth can beweilded like a sword, a tonfa, or a short staff. Unlike the sword it lacks a hilt (hint, watch those hands/fingers from getting sliced), unlike a tonfa it cannot be easily swung around (the tonfa can spin in a closed hand, the Batleth cannot), and unlike a staff the Batleth is short, making its range very limilted. Its great that people are creating a martial form for it, but it still doesnt negate its poor design. From what I have seen/read Lightsaber combat (empowering your Lightsaber and blocking/reflecting with it) is THE most basic skill of the Jedi/Sith. It is the first skill learned, for many it is their most powerful ability, and for even those who rarely use a Lightsaber it is still something they know. The Federation shields suck...period. It is constantly: "Sir, our shields are down to 60% and w, x, y, and z damage has been sustained". The Federation shields only block some damage. Star Wars (as seen in movies, most books, every game) shields take all damage until lost. Although I would imagine the shields being lost more rapidly, they would still keep the ship alive until lost. The proton torpedo's range is shorter due to its ability to greatly adjust its vector. 180 degree turn? Sure. Another two or three turns? Yup. you dont see that often with the Photon torpedo (except in one of the movies). It takes more space and fuel to manuever. What if their communication was disconnected? An Ion shot would do such and therefor the next ship(s) would lack any new information. Um, its the Klingons, not the Federation, vs the Sith. not too sure if Klingons have all of the options that the Federation does (or if the really use phasors). True, Star Trek has tractor beams, but they dont seem to be as effective (cant lock onto a shielded ship, rarely are able to stop a same size ship in its tracks, ect). The Star Wars tractor beams are a main part of their capital ship combat tactic: manuever into a better position then your oponent, lock them into place with the tractor beam, pummel to death. In one of the Zahn novels Luke(?) is able to get away from a tractor beam only because he was well prepared. he was piloting a light freighter with his X-Wing inside. When the Freighter was caught, he moved into his X-Wing, blew open the Freigther and released chaff and was barely able to get away (the tractor beam operator was sweeping the chaff away to try to relock onto him, got him a promotion under Thrawn). Edited due to error in quote usage
  14. Honestly I should not touch this subject with a Nerf prod, but I think I have to put an extra voice in here. One problem I see with the Star Trek advocates is the ideology that Star Trek technology is superior. There is little if any evidence of that. Are there numerous planetary shield systems in Star Trek (by the Federation or other comperable tech societies), planetary phaser arrays (to the scale of in Star Wars), selective shields (Star Wars shields seem to be able to allow somethings and not others) and shields that aborb all of the damage until lost, tractor beams that go through shields, droids, and probably a few more. Star Trek has certain technology that Star Wars doesnt, but it more shows the genre of each universe then if one was more superior to the other. Star Wars was about a galactic struggle, while Star trek was about space exploration and each had technology that was more in line with the genre. Sorry GarfieldJL but you bring forth some of the worse Star Trek bias on the scale of "ultimate force powers/user". There are numerous things in the Star Trek universe that seem really powerful but fail the plausability check. And sorry if it will seem like I am singling you out (many others have made credulous claims). This made me chuckle in two ways. You are correct and somone "who really knows Star Trek" should remember it. Though honestly I hadent recalled the extra phasor banks because of the second part. Honestly, how often do you see any of the Galaxy Class starships seperated. Besides the first season or two of TNG and the movie you almost never see it again. There are large battles in DS9 where you see Galaxy Class Starships still fighting with the saucer sections... (probably due to poor directing) The Batleth (like the Double Lightsaber) is a neat looking weapon, but a very poor design. The article basicly states that they are dangerous "like a gun or knife" ie, like any blade weapon, not that they are an effective weapon design. As long as the vibroblade could take the damage of the weapon (they might also be able to use the force to increase the strength of the vibroblade, as they do with a Lightsaber), they can deflect the attack. The ability to deflect is more based off of their use of the force then anything. In the afforementioned (sp?) scenarios: (Please note that the OP I think added that tech was going to be "of similar power") The Galactic Empire(RotJ, not post-RotJ) vs The Dominion (DS9) Depends on the Empire "in use". Is it just the ROTJ ships? Or does it include all of the ships from other sources that were in existence at the time? Is it an all ships involved? Is it a one time fight or a "war campaign"? The Empire depicted in the ROTJ movie is well...weak, the Empire with ships from other sources (Interdictors, Carrack Light Cruisers, TIE Interceptors, TIE Gunships, Super Star DestroyerS) would have a better chance. If the Empire could bring all of its ships to bear it would obliterate the Dominion (just due to the shear numbers of ships that were subjugating and destroying worlds through out the galaxy). The Dominion ships are more agile (especially the small ones), and for their size would likely have better damage capability... but the Star Wars ships have tractor beams (which they use very frequently to halt enemy ships to blast them), small agile fighters (TIEs and TIE Interceptors), and their shielding seems to absorb all damage until lost. The Undine(Species 8472 from Voyager) vs The Yuuzhan Vong. Honestly I do not know enough of either species (especially the Undine) to make a good decision. The Borg Collective vs the Galactic Alliance. Again some variables that need to be determined. How effective would Ion Cannons be? Theoretically if the Borg could not "adapt" they would be destroyed quickly as cybernetics would be vulnerable and they would lose numerous drones and the ability to connect to each other. Could the Borg "adapt" to Turbolasers? They are "similar" to plasma weapons in which they hurl "bolts" of fiery death, not just a energy beam. Could a shield really adapt to that? The Borg in many ways are part of Star Treks "force users", they have abilities that far exceed what normally could be done. Note: In my opinion the idea of "adaptive" shields that a one moment are unable to stop a force, but with a "adjustment" (ie a calibration or reprogramming) are then able to is bunk. The main thing that would determine if a shield would be able to stop a force would be its strength relative to the strength of the force. The only exception would be if the weapon relies on a "wave length" shearing or electron bombardment (irradiating). Just because you arange the energy field a slightly different way does not mean it will suddenly become immune to an attack (slightly more effective maybe). If you have a brick wall that has to sustain a hit it makes little difference in how it is arranged, more on how thick it is (its strength). Klingon Empire vs The Sith Empire(TOR) Hmmm, well the Sith Empire(TOR) is considerably smaller than any of the other Star Wars militaries and lacks some of the later technology that would really be effective (tractor beams). The Sith Empire would probably lose a space battle due to those. But a Sith (any old Sith) would slaughter numerous Klingons in hand to hand combat if given the chance (and knowing the Sith they would probably try their best to get a fight on their own terms).
