  1. Chiir, I paid $15 to reactivate this crappy account to this crappy game JUST TO TELL YOU HOW TO GET IN TOUCH WITH US!!!!!!!!!! I PM'ed my e-mail address. I reformed SRA on SWG-EMU Basilisk and we're having a GREAT time. Hellian is here...Odelagga (was there) Urrabo and Grey were trying to play TOR also - but I told them not to bother, to come to SWG-EMU Basilisk. (they haven't yet) YOU SHOULD, THOUGH!!! http://www.swgemu.com Now bah. You'd better come, $15 to activate a crappy free to play game... bah All you other Sunrunnerians should come too. There are LOTS of us there.
  2. In SWG, my human toon was Sam'el Jackson... I had a toon that was his wife named Komo Jackson, and her brother, Newwave Jackson. Silly, yes, but I was happy with it. The DAY that TOR came out I made Sam'el and Komo again... and played as fast as I could to unlock my legacy name, but I go to school... by the time I unlocked it, Jackson was taken. I was pissed. I was forced to choose 'Jacquesson' - which I am ashamed to display. I would consider paying to change my name...or I'd accept one free do-over... in fact I'd like to change my toon's first AND legacy names... knowing now that I can't ever have the name I intended on having when I created the toon... -and I've NEVER seen the guy who chose 'Jackson' .... if I did I'd give him a /whap
  3. I'm actually having more fun with SWG-EMU right now than this...
  4. Yep. How far south do ya mean? My main's on Prophecy of the Five.
  5. I'll add to my 'no' vote that I was a chart topping DPS in WoW until I quit in Firelands... 25k+ dps on my boomkin, 25k+ on my mage - in addition I tanked as a bear, and a DK, and had a Disc Priest... I regularly hit top 3 on 25-man BH runs alongside members of the top guild on my server... Just adding what some would consider credibility to my 'NO' vote. I view the Recount and LFG requests to be part of a similar issue... additionally... Some people feel that 'dungeons' should be instantly accessible, repeatable... basically 'zergable' - in my opinion, those are special runs. Part of the 'fun' of this game to me is picking out a group (hopefully guildies or friends) and testing our might in a difficult setting. There is something to be said for keeping instances and high end content more difficult... and more rare. This game has been out for ONE MONTH - not everyone is intended to be *finished* as soon as possible... the fun is in the journey. Like I said, my opinion... I was raised in a time before cellphones, on-demand movies, internet... etc. Maybe these debates are just symptoms of a generational conflict...
  6. Please no. Without getting too deep into it... People keep bringing up the point that they need a way to gauge their progress... I dunno about everyone else, but I can tell how much more damage I'm doing as I level up... it doesn't require much attention People say that it's required for end-game/hardmode encounters of high difficulty... Then, (like in WoW) after they faceroll that new content, they complain about the game being too easy. We need to progress through this game based on our own skills/weaknesses - the latter of which drives us to group with and rely on other people. That is the fun, personal experience that an MMORPG can give us. There is a thrill to achieving something completely on your own merits, and doing so while immersed in a fantasy universe. That's why *most* of us are here. The WoW people are on some completely different planet, and I can't blame them entirely, just the crappy game that has morphed and driven their expectations/watered down their gaming experience.
  7. Here's what I find funny... WoW got a LFG tool - and all the leet players complained about getting stuck with random idiots and just did their runs in guild or with friends... Most random heroics were either one or two people carrying the rest of the group - or leaving after they realized they were carrying... OR... one giant argument (like the PvP battlegrounds) WoW had a LFR system like the /who in SW:TOR, but nobody used it... EVER... so Blizzard implemented a LFR tool - and it's AWFUL. If we get a LFG/LFR tool here, it's just going to make for bad runs with random lazy idiots. If they're so lazy that they can't get a group together... (or even set their tag in /who) ... then chances are they're also too lazy to know their class and be competent in a random run (that took no effort to get into) It's just going to make for MORE complaining...
  8. Calenorn from Arkenstone... beta/early game player here
  9. Wynona of Cosa Nostra (launch vet) here...
  10. Month One of SWG - 100,000 credits was a lot... By the time I quit, I was spending 10,000,000 or more on a whim every time I logged... I wasn't even a power player, and I had over 200,000,000 in the bank. It's just the FIRST MONTH OF THE GAME. Don't freak out.
  11. Yes. This is sort of my point. But... what do ya mean by mainstream? A group comprised of the greatest numbers, or maybe just the loudest, most opinionated group...
  12. My first MMO was Star Wars: Galaxies, way back in 2003. It was creative, social, and open-ended. I don't know why, but that wasn't good enough for some people (for the developers, some players)... so they ruined it. I was pressured into trying WoW, starting in 2005... the concept of that game was new to me, albeit far less free and original than Galaxies... it was the only thing out there, so I gave it a chance. I've spent the past six years making do with WoW, while I waited for anything like Galaxies to surface again... being a big Tolkien fan, I beta-tested LOTRO... Was amazed at how such a rich and amazing story could be turned into such a boring, tedious, unimaginative game... I tried going back to SWG - it was the same way. I believe that WoW has poisoned the *mainstream* MMO community. It's spoon-fed millions of players a very limited idea of what these games could be... SW:TOR is not entirely unaffected by this, but, as a brand new game it has the potential to break out of the mold. Please... please... don't let all the whiny WoW players ruin this potential. I know - that a wide variety of behavior is exhibited by people in every one of these games, but here's what I saw in WoW: It wasn't about personal achievement, pride in your faction or guild, it was about being better than other people - about putting everyone down at every opportunity. One thing I loved about the early SWG was that you couldn't gearcheck everyone, you couldn't view their achievements... only their outer appearance and their deeds spoke... and they could speak volumes... High-end raiding... I was a member of several end-game guilds, two of which were 'top-ten' on my particular server. I participated in end-game raids very quickly after they were released. The behavior I witnessed and the things I heard during those years made me embarrassed to play the game. Grown men with lives berating each other, insulting their friends, over one second of reaction time... and all for what? What's the hurry? The guy who downed the Lich King in November 2010 got the same achievement as the guy who downed it in April 2010... The utter reliance on addons and stat trackers in WoW is a huge turnoff as well. For me, it ruins any immersion possibilities (which is why escapists like myself play games like this)... having access to every minute detail of play also empowers a certain type of player to become a virtual dictator... and eventually, the high end content is limited to those who can fill the mold, not necessarily to those who will enjoy or thrive on the challenge the most. All of these factors were determined by the design of the game, in my opinion. It's like having a child, (or in my case, a cat) - if you don't provide the opportunities for bad behavior, it's far less likely to come out naturally. Certain game situations empower the sick, sad, and greedy... certain ones empower the bold, honorable, and creative... I feel like SW:TOR is walking a fine line, and has a real chance to shine... either way, it's gotten me away from WoW permanently! I'm not a 'professional' gamer (I have a life) - these observations are based on gaming for nearly twenty of my twenty-seven years on this earth, based on my knowledge and observance of human behaviors (I'm an anthropology student). I'm just putting this out there to add to the voices of the sane here, and hopefully push the message through to the Devs... be original, be bold.
