  1. So... she wants you to choose for her? Well... fair enough, then, I guess. Don't worry about the mechanics... you can help her with that while you're playing. And, you can pick whichever class best compliments whatever she's playing, to keep things moving. The story is the main draw for many here, so if you want her to keep playing, then getting her invested in one seems to be the way to go. Pick the class with the story you think she'd enjoy the most.
  2. I suppose it depends on whether they lean toward Light Side or Dark Side, too. Some voice actors are just better at one then the other. I'm playing a female BH that's essentially Light Side and I think she sounds perfectly fine. I kind of get the impression that the male BH would be pretty awesome for a Dark Side character, too, though I haven't really tested that.
  3. Useless comments are useless. Honestly, I could even go as far as saying that this sort of attitude is a large part of the OPs problem. Like someone else has already said, if the end game multiplayer stuff hasn't been working out so well for you, you still have plenty to do. Put your two level 50s on hold for a while, and go on to one of the other class stories... maybe spend some more time doing Heroics with others while you're leveling. If you pay attention to the General channel while you're leveling, then you should eventually see someone trying to get a group together for some Heroic or other... keep an eye out, and sign up when you see someone asking for help, even if it means abandoning a solo quest for a little while. And, don't forget to make use of the Friends list to keep tabs on anyone you work well with... or, join a guild, if the opportunity comes up. That way, the next time you get to 50, you could have a list of players already built up that you know you enjoy playing with. Also, there's bound to be more soloable content, eventually. Makeb is supposed to be mostly soloable, I think... so, if you have to, just hold out for that. Either way, there's still plenty of other stuff to do, besides the end game multplayer content.
  4. Just addressing a point that seems to have come up a few times while I was skimming through this thread. Giving something 10/10 (or five stars, or whatever other rating system you're using) doesn't mean "I think this game is objectively perfect in every way, and could never ever have been improved", and it never has. That's really just a misconception you get when you try to apply something as objective as a numerical rating to something as subjective as an opinion based review. If you give a game a '10', you're really just saying "I think it's awesome... I enjoy pretty much every moment I spend playing it... and, I'll happily recommend it to anyone that has any interest in games". A game doesn't have to be objectively perfect to cause that reaction in a player. Also, I have to respond to this. The user review section of Metacritic is a terrible place to go for game reviews. I mean, seriously... look at all the people giving it 0's or 1's or 2's... what possible value does that have? Besides, the Metacritic user community has had a hate erection for Bioware since Dragon Age 2, where they did pretty much the same thing. Bring up a legitimately bad game, like Two Worlds, and you find a User score of 6.6, with not nearly as many 0's... that just doesn't seem even close to balanced. Anyway... to finish up by actually addressing the original point of this thread... I'd give SW:TOR a 9. I love the game, in general... but, the need to constantly grind through mobs to get where I'm going wears on my patience sometimes.
  5. Assuming, for the moment, that Bioware do actually add something significant to the space combat, then I quite like the idea of having them use it as a part of future stories. Something along the lines of Republic and Imperial Pilot classes, maybe, with story line space missions that are only available to them, TIE Fighter style. Of course, I have no idea how the classes would actually work, or how they'd fit with the rest of the ground based stuff... but, I still kind of like the idea.
  6. You know, my post was really only about how some players approach the game versus how I imagine Bioware were hoping players would approach the game. As in, they clearly seemed to be hoping that players would want to play through with each of the eight classes at least once before they started itching for new content - since they put a lot of time and effort into making each one a worthwhile experience. My only real point was that it seems to me that having a 'main' and an 'alt' or two might not be the best way to approach this particular MMO, and that some of the problems people are having here are a direct result of carrying a certain mentality over from other MMOs (and, when I say that, I suppose I should make clear that it is only my opinion on the matter. I have no idea what Bioware employees actually thought). You're absolutely right that the actual quests for a particular class only form a small portion of the content on a particular planet... and, that multiple playthroughs may involve a lot of repeating of quests. I just don't think it matters. We have the legacy system now - we can unlock experience point bonuses that make skipping over some content we don't want to repeat without crippling ourselves into a more plausible option. What is that, if not a deliberate attempt to get people playing more classes? Besides which, for me at least, playing through the same content with a different class gives the content a completely different feel - not just because of the different mechanics of another class, but because of the different personality that each can have. Bugfixes, and what's actually going to happen when the game goes free to play, are both legitimate concerns... but, not really anything to do with what I was talking about. Regarding bug fixes, though - sure, there's always work to be done, but bugs and new content are done by two different teams who work mostly independently from each other. It's not really a matter of having to choose between them. Ideally, you'd get both. But, if the bugfix team are slow in getting things fixed, it has nothing to do with content development. Besides, I've been to the patch history page - I'm not sure what the standards are, but it looks to me like quite a bit of work has been done to fix various problems. Sure, it's weird that a new patch introduces new problems into the game, but Bioware aren't the only company to have that problem. Remember when Bethesda introduced a patch into Skyrim that caused all of the dragons to fly backward for a while? Computer code is complicated, is the point. And, finally (since I've spent way more time on this than I really wanted to), I never asked why you were still playing. I assume everyone that's still here has their reasons. I was asking whether this was really the right game for someone that claims to have no real interest in the story... and, I still think that's a fair question.
  7. Are you sure you're playing the right game, then? I know that on other MMOs is pretty typical to have one main character, and to consider every other character you may or may not play to be alts, which you only mess around with when your bored... but, that's really because there's usually not enough content to justify multiple playthroughs. Here, you have eight distinct class stories, and the broader 'Republic' and 'Empire' story for each planet. That's a hell of a lot of content that's missed if you only play it through once or twice. And, yes, I know that grinding through the same areas and content with different characters can get dull pretty fast... but, isn't that pretty similar to what you do when you grind through end game content in an MMO, anyway? The End Game content that people keep going on about clearly wasn't Bioware's focus when they were designing the game... though, they'll be releasing more of it as things progress. If you only want to have one single character, which you rush through the content with, then that's fine... but, it seems to me that you're pretty clearly going against the way Bioware hoped players would play their game. Personally, I hope that story will always be a priority in this game. It's the only thing that's going to keep me here long-term, afterall. Though, of course, I also hope they spread their focus a bit, and give other players the extra PvE and PvP content that they want, as well. I don't need Bioware catering solely to my needs.
  8. And, they could do that pretty easily by declaring the game to be set in its own time line which may, or may not, actually lead into the stuff that comes later. But, if it's LucasArts refusing to loosen the reins that's the issue, then I suppose there's nothing that can be done about it. From a story-telling perspective (especially in something like an MMORPG) it seems horribly limiting, though. Kind of makes you wonder why anyone else would even want to try to write a story in the Star Wars universe. Oh well... I'll still be using the alternate time-line thing as my own personal Canon, for now, at least. Pretty sure Lucasfilm can't actually come after me for changing their story in my own head.
  9. I'm not sure I understand why the game needs to fit in perfectly with the rest of the Star Wars lore, anyway. Granted, I've never read a single Star Wars related novel (and, my knowledge of the EU comes from what I've heard other mention, mostly), but aren't there a bunch of different levels of Canon, or something? Personally, if Bioware came out and said that, as far as they're concerned, their MMO exists on its own level of Canon, I'd be alright with that. For example... you've got the Republic and the Empire, and the war between them... if the Republic ultimately win, then things progress in a way that leads you toward the existing lore. But, if the Empire ultimately win, then you end up with things drifting into an alternate time line... so, it becomes a weird sort of Star Wars alternate history story. Of course, there's nothing to suggest that Bioware's plans for the game are anything like that. I'm just saying that, if they were, I'd be perfectly happy to just go with it.
  10. I like her. There seems to be a fairly good chance that my agent will end up hating her by the end (I'm just starting chapter 2 with that class) - but, that's a completely different thing. Characters that are antagonistic to the main protagonist have their place, as long as they're done well - and, from what I've seen so far, Kaliyo is done pretty well. Even if my agent and Kaliyo spend the last few hours of the class storyline threatening and insulting each other, it'll still be fun to play out. Though, the fact that there's not actually any way to properly get rid of her might be a bit annoying if it gets to that.
  11. So... you'll be happy if they said something like "yes, there are bugs... and, yes, they're being worked on", first? Then, got into the character discussion stuff? Because, that's pretty much all someone could say about an area of the game that they have nothing to do with, isn't it?
