  1. Appearance is only a minor consideration for a minority of players.
  2. You've been playing since the mid-90s too, huh? I guess that means we're both "professionals". *Puts on baggy red pants and begins to cast Touch of Flame* Personally, I couldn't care less about achievements in any game. I see them as a novelty that reflects little more than the amount of time you've spent in the game. That said, if you're going to program them in, at least give players a way to view and compare them....
  3. I can understand not liking a PvP scenario that takes the focus off of PvP. Thing is, I don't think Huttball is a very good example of this. There is still plenty of PvP combat that takes place on this map. Far more than compared to certain other PvP scenarios in other games, particularly those where you hop on a siege weapon that has 1 or 2 abilities. So I understand where you're coming from, I just think Huttball is a poor example of the phenomenon you describe. The objective may be a moving ball instead of a fixed node, but I still see it as a pretty PvP-centric scenario.
  4. Hi, I am new to the game, but not to the genre. I started with a Sage, really enjoy the playstyle and abilities, but I feel quite gimp in PvP. I don't want to invest the time if it's the class, and not just me. I have gathered that I need to play smart, stay on the outskirts, and use my abilities to keep people off me. But if just one person gets through, I'm pretty much toast. I feel like I have little time to actually DPS cuz I'm constantly just trying not to die. Some key abilities have painfully long cast times (looking at you, Force Lift) but I haven't studied all the skill trees yet to see if I can bring those down. Anyway, just curious what some more veteran PvPers' think of a Sage not spec'd for healing?
  5. I never played SWG, but I am constantly hearing about how awesome it was. In fact I hardly hear an unkind word about it. And this always leaves me wondering: why was it shut down? I recently picked up SWTOR as I was looking for something to occupy me while I wait for EverQuest Next: Landmark. I think I bought a subscription to SWTOR within 2 days of starting? Mostly to unlock the races, as I like racial variety. Anyway, it became obvious early on in SWTOR that I was playing WoW with a Star Wars skin. Nonetheless, I really like the way the game looks, and I'm still really impressed with the dialogues (something you concede is done well.) I also enjoy being able to send my companion away on mission - it's kind of cool on its own, and I don't want an NPC following me around anyway. All of that said, I can't help but be continually surprised at the level at which they simply copied systems from another game wholesale. I mean, there's clones and then there's clones. I don't know if I've ever seen it done so blatantly. One other point: Just because SWTOR has more subscribers than SWG had doesn't mean themeparks are necessarily more successful than sandboxes. Generalizing in that way is quite the leap in logic. This genre as a whole is still quite young, and there have been precious few quality sandbox options. Just because the one breakout hit is themepark, and that's what most people are familiar with right now, doesn't mean sandbox can't grow in popularity.
