  1. OP said that their current laptop cannot play this game... and yes technically there are "gaming laptops" They do make laptops that are optimized for gaming example: Alienware (over priced yes we know) ASUS Sager etc...
  2. both the gtx580m and 6990m seem to be pretty even, about +/- 5% they are both better than the gtx560m but are much more expensive. The norm seems to be the gtx560m for most 15"-17" notebooks (Or the ati counter part) I'm more of an nvidia person myself, don't know why... just a fanboy I guess
  3. ^ This.... I have windows, linux/backtrack on my PC right now, all I need is to get Mac osx on there and I will have the best of everything
  4. I love my alienware, it has the best build quality I have ever seen in a laptop.
  5. Well if it was as easy as *POOF* it's on Mac.... Then yeah who wouldn't.... But if it's going to cost them more to make it available on Mac then there are problems. Considering the very small population of Mac gamers it wouldn't benefit them money wise and for major game developers that's all that matters. If you want to play SWTOR on a Mac then try running windows, someone posted a link that would help you out (it's around here somewhere...) If you're going to be gaming then you shouldn't buy a Mac in the first place. I have nothing against them it's just that gaming is one of the weak points as far as Macs go.... Just say'n...
  6. I agree with this but that's only if a desktop is possible... If OP needs to have a laptop for portability then a desktop is out of the question. I got my gaming laptop because I needed something portable (although the m15x is borderline portable) to take to home/school/work etc... I'm OK with gaming on medium or even low settings, it's what I sacrifice for being able to play anywhere and I'm OK with it. I even manage to play on my m11x (barely) but it's great for when I can't carry my bigger computer and I want to get some gaming in. It's true that gaming desktops are a better investment as far as performance and being future proof. soooo....... OP, If you are looking for better performance go with a desktop unless portability is an issue... as far as both of those laptops... The one you have now should be better as far as gaming performance, but the decision is ultimately up to you
  7. Well the ssd is an upgrade but the gt555m would have less performance then the gtx560m
  8. I have an Alienware M15x, I bought it with an i3, gt240m and 4 gigs of RAM I have upgraded my laptop to the i7 added more ram and will soon be upgrading the gpu to a gtx560m... I was amazed to find out the gpu was actually upgradable after I bought the laptop ... and yes they are very overpriced but they do have amazing build quality and I'm a sucker for the cool design/multicolor back lit keyboard
  9. Alienware M15x - i7 720qm PGA988 chipset - Nvidia gt240m OC'd ~ 25% (soon to be gtx560m....i hope) - 8gb RAM DDR3 1333 - 320gb hdd 7200 rpm Medium settings w/ shadows off and bloom off non crowded area ~ 35-40 fps crowded area ~ 15-30 fps hope this helps
  10. I have an m11x r1 too! It's amazing how well it can run games considering the size and I got it for a good price. The newest model is a little pricey though.
  11. I'm sorry but there is no real answer to this. People have their opinion and mine is more than just better or worse because there are some things I like and some I don't... I won't get into details but I am happy with it over all. I think part of it has to do with it being new and the fact that there aren't many guides out at the moment. Because of this I am finding out how to use my character's moves on my own instead of reading a guide written by a bunch of elitists saying exactly how to do what and when to do it. I think it's a much better experience learning at your own pace.... But that's just me. Hope this helps.
  12. The authenticator seems to be made by the same company as the WOW authenticator. I've never had to transfer them before but it might work the same way.
  13. After reading this post I couldn't help but think of those commercials for lawyer groups that you see on daytime TV... "Have you or a loved one been seriously inured from faulty elevators, glitchy game mechanics? Then call now, you may be entitled to compensation...
