The Stagnation of MMO industry/genre and why
LaManoNera replied to twinionx's topic in General Discussion
It's stagnant because "MMO" is not an industry or a genre. It's a technology and a service. The technology powering these games has stagnated and the service in them has steadily degraded over the years. Long story short: most game developers don't know how to create and run a MMO. -
It's not an MMO. It's an RPG with online play. Just like Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, Fable, Guild Wars, etc.
-
If they can't get a simple open world PvP zone like Illum right, I have no confidence they'll get free flight space PvP right. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course.
-
The funny thing is that eventually the game will make all items fully moddable, exactly how it was in beta testing when everyone liked it. The sad thing is, it won't be because people were telling BW for 3 years that they liked all items being moddable

Getting the impression that Bioware is going to drop class stories
LaManoNera replied to Arodin's topic in General Discussion
Let's start with the "multiplayer part". In an MMO, people want the focus to be place on the single player experience? When we still don't have multiplayer space content or even a half way decent open world PvP system? Zero guild functionality? BoP crafting items? Etc. -
Getting the impression that Bioware is going to drop class stories
LaManoNera replied to Arodin's topic in General Discussion
This If BW wants to focus on class stories, then they seriously screwed themselves by just not developing KoTOR 4. Is this an MMO or is it a single player RPG? Sorry, but I don't consider grinding instances and daily quests to be a "MMO". -
LoTRO and Rift both had massive amounts of content added in their first 6 months. Much more than TOR has. Then you have F2P MMOs like Star Trek Online and Champions Online which not only have technology that lets players make their own content but also have new content added to their games EVERY WEEK. Sorry, but TOR's rate of new content is painfully slow. The actual content they added in the months after launch was content that was already being developed before the game was released. Is it a coincidence that truly new content after that has been coming at a snail's pace?
-
It's never acknowledged anywhere in the game nor mentioned by any NPC ever. Which is BW's reason for not including species like wookiees and "giant lizardmen".
-
I guess kinda like how the Jedi Order doesn't seem to notice or mind that it now has Sith Purebloods and Chiss as Jedi? Or how a blind species can now apparently use guns just as well as everyone else?
-
Why are people still going on about the "don't speak Basic" cop out? It's actually pretty insulting to the players' intelligence. Common sense would tell you people wanting to play as a Wookiee already know and accept that Solid Snake won't be giving "cool" one liners they're just gonna spacebar through the second time around. They just want to smash stuff as Wookiees.
-
Honest opinion- do you think the game is in trouble?
LaManoNera replied to Moroder's topic in General Discussion
If the slow rate at which BW brings new content to the game continues, then yes TOR is in trouble. They need to step that up. -
This just tells me what I've already known for a while now: investors are incredibly out of touch with the industry. And the consumers suffer for it.

Compared to a single fleet as small as the fleet station...? What top secret military grade internet connection do you play on where you don't lag horribly in a 200+ fleet? Have you been to Courscant or Dromund Kaas? They're pretty damn big. And cool looking. You're essentially telling me that it's better to have 200+ people crammed into a McDonalds building rather than letting them roam around the entire town.
-
Nevermind the game design standpoint on fleets. On a technical level, it's just ridiculous. Now that we have populated servers, having 200+ people running around in a single space station is absurd. Spread it out so the game doesn't seem so artificial. Put GTNs back on the planets you took them off. Place important NPCs on their respective capitals. There's so much wasted space in this game it's mind boggling.
