  1. The republic is just as evil as the empire, sometimes more so. The difference is that the republic hides their evil with lies, while the empire just doesn't care about the moral distinctions as long as it is effective.
  2. I personally wouldn't use a pushback ability while tanking, unless it was to push a mob off a cliff to its death. Tanking is not only about holding aggro and surviving, but also about maintaining a controlled enviroment as much as possible in order to make it easier for everyone to keep track of things. From the sounds of it, your friend is skirting on the teamplay component in order to solo play. As for threat of push? I wouldn't think so, aside that it 'pushes' the mob away from your ability to dps it, and thus make threat
  3. Really? I'll pick the easiest one to showcase, just to point out how glaring it is without resorting to major spoilers: Belsavis. But your comment is loaded, btw. In a republic the title 'citizen' isn't granted to everyone living in the republic. That's part of why the empire can actually get support on different planets: Because the republic are treating parts of the populace like inferiors without any rights. And to bring in a minor spoiler on another planet, to give an exact showcasing:
  4. It have often been argued that the problem with amount of tanks available for 'small group content' is intricately tied to the problems with amount of tanks required for 'large group content'. In other words, your viewpoint is a reflection caused by the viewpoint of the guy you responded to.
  5. Considered the alliances and negotiations the republic does, you'll find slavery, opression and general debauchery in the republic as well. There's plenty of dark in the republic, and most of the time as a lightside character while leveling I was arguing AGAINST the choices the people in charge wanted to go forth with in order to 'fight the evil republic'. The republic is only a nicer place to live in than the empire for some people. For others, it's way worse than the empire in its opression and evilness.
  6. This reminded me of when I first got my Belkin n52te. I was used to playing WoW with a regular keyboard but wanted to try out eh n52te. I had to literally designate an alt I used it on, instead of my primary character, because I was so clumsy with it to start with. After I got used to it, though, I feel clumsy when I don't have access to it. It's all a matter of routines, really.
  7. So you look down on the keyboard every time you need to hit a key while playing? No wonder clicking is faster for some people...
  8. In this regard it's actually kinda 'funny' (in a tragic way) what happened in ancient Rome. Brutos tried to save the republic, but because he failed to communicate proper with the masses he fell for his actions and the masses accepted a totalitarian government instead. And I dunno why your professor decides to bend established definations. Claiming a democracy and republic is the same thing, is like claming an Arosticracy and Republic is the same thing. Just because there are some similarities, doesn't make them the same.
  9. Any suggestions? When I am tanking a gorup of mobs and I notice I might need to taunt something out of the corner of my eye, it is often impossible for me to select those targets. Tab makes my cycle through useless targets most of the time, and trying to click on the target makes me select stuff I am not actively clikcing on, but whose invisible selection mesh appearantly overlaps the actual model I AM clicking on on screen. So tanking non-boss pulls can sometimes become a frustrating experience for me when I find myself unable to acutally select the specific targets I want to Tanking as Immortal Juggernaut, btw, although I don't reckon it has much effect on the coding of target selection.
  10. Even you should see the error of this statement. If you can't, then whatever powers you may or may not believe in help you.
  11. That wasn't untill at least an expansion down. Dk tanking was alot more versatile initially, but got cut down with a weak excuse of 'spending too much time on them' by Blizz. which incidently left druids as the only class with more than 3 class specs. DK tanking was based on managing cooldowns, at the bottom of it. The stuff you mentioned was just fluff added later on in an effort by blizz to keep things managble for them (aside from avoidance playing a big part for them throughout most of their tanking career, even the tanking specs that were the 'soak' specs). In ToR I so far only have experience with tanking with a Juggernaut Immortal spec. It feels mostly like a warrior, but with some of the cooldown juggling of the cooldown juggling that was characteristic of the dk in wow, courtesy of multiple CDs that aren't too long before they are back up. I would still call it closer to a warrior than dk, though. So maybe one of the other tanking classes would fit your vision better.
  12. The message conveyed is that the republic isn't this happy land at the end of the rainbow some people would like to think it is. The evils of the republic often get hidden in the back while the evils of the empire gets paraded down the main street. It doesn't make the evils of the republic any less, though, which is what is being nailed down here. Both the republic and the empire have good and bad sides to them. Playing a character in the game, on either side, it's your choice how your character responds to these moral issues that appear, regardless of your affiliation. Take a look back in history. I dare you to find any time where one of the sides where unilatteraly the 'evil' side and only did evil, while 'the other side' were 'good' and only did good. Such a thing doesn't exist in our history, and it doesn't exist in star wars either, despite its connection to science fantasy rather than science fiction.
  13. That's an interesting claim. My jedi Shadow got laid on one of the planets and still has zero dark side points. Somehow this seems to contradict your claim, no?
  14. I had a warrior tank in wow, and playing my juggernaut tank in ToR is like putting on an old glove. The classes Juggernaut tank and warrior tank are practically carbon copies, but at least it made it easy for me to get into tanking in this game, even though I do feel it was poor show of lack of creativvity from Bioware in this regard. The picture forgot hoeric throw and saber throw, as well as the rage mechanics and prob a few more as well if I bothered dissecting the class.
