  1. Indeed I am. Why do you ask? Halinalle, just to clarify I'm using b to mean bits (1/8 of a byte) and B to mean bytes (8 bits). Agreed, but I'd love to know who is offering a download speed in Gb/s! Umm... no. They sometimes quote read/write speeds the same way ISPs do, in (something)bits (b)/s, but capacities are always given in (something)bytes (B). Punch HDD or SSD into Amazon, Scan, Newegg or wherever and you won't find many drives giving capacities in bits. Usually yes, operating systems do deal in bytes because they are talking about file sizes and drive capacities. When they need to talk about network speeds however, task manager uses bits like everyone else. After all that I don't quite see what this has to do with changing the units of the launcher. My argument is that when players see a download speed 1/8 the number they were expecting (remember our download speeds are advertised in bits, the launcher gives a number in bytes), they are going to get annoyed and assume that BW is just giving us a slow service, which in my experience, is not the case. The solution to this would seem to be, as I suggested, to put the speed shown in the launcher into (prefix)b/s like other network speeds. It's just a case of uniformity so that the uninitiated don't have to spot the upper case B on the launcher and Google the difference.
  2. For a long time I've been incredibly frustrated by the time it takes to download a patch for SWTOR. Obviously it has to be done, but it always seems to take a really long time, even on my super slow connection. One key factor in my irritation has been the massive discrepancy between the reported download speed and my internet speed. That is, until recently. The other day I opened task manager to check SWTOR's network usage and to my surprise, it was 8 times higher than the speed my launcher was reporting! This got me thinking about why there could be 8 times as much data coming into the launcher as being reported. The answer - SWTOR uses the wrong units! To explain, SWTOR reports download speed in kiloBYTES per second, whilst everyone else in the world (at least in my experience) uses kilo(or mega)BITS per second! At 8 bits in a byte, the conversion reveals that not only is SWTOR reporting the right amount of data, it is actually saturating my connection! My suggestion therefore is simple - multiply the reported speed by 8 and change the units to Kb/s instead of KB/s. Am I the only person confused by this, or have all the ISPs changed units whilst I wasn't looking?
  3. This is actually a very valid point given the new focus on story and lore.
  4. I don't know if these will be answered until launch or beyond but here goes: 1) How will Level Sync affect class content that is not on the standard planet progression (example below)? 2) Will level sync be able to scale a player up if they want to play with friends who are ahead of them? 3) Do earpieces, implants and relics count as armour for the purposes of level sync? 4) Where do Datacron bonuses fit into Level Sync (now that so many more of my characters have them:jawa_biggrin:)? And a bonus: I know it's a lot to hope for but is there any chance that the companion changes are groundwork for being able to fill flashpoint groups with companions?
  5. Is it just me, or is there nothing about legacy banks in these notes. Are they still coming, or did I just miss them?
  6. True. I was thinking of the extra coins they gave us when SWTOR first went FtP. This deal is getting worse all the time!
  7. I've seen a couple of questions on the forums and streams about adding decorations to the collectors edition vendor. Whilst I think this is a great idea, I was also wondering about a standard set of decorations based on items in the actual collectors edition... Darth Malgus statue - Darth Malgus statue (actual size or larger, maybe a holo-statue but I was thinking of more of a stone or bronze style) Journal of Master Gnost Dural - Journal of Master Gnost Dural, on a stand SWTOR galaxy map - Holographic star chart (kind of like the star maps you had to find in KOTOR) Soundtrack - Exclusive jukebox tracks (perhape even the ones on the CD) Security key - Maybe a forcefield that turns on or off every few seconds, or can be deactivated by interacting. If not then an exclusive guard, maybe someone else can come up with something better for this one? Obviously, I know Bioware probably isn't all that interested in CE owners any more, especially now that we do have an extra CC grant, but I think this would be a nice addition for those who spent the extra money before the game was even out!
  8. I too would like to request mannequins and weapon displays but also have another idea. This may have been suggested elsewhere but as a solution to the growing complaints over the lack of fleet chat in strongholds, would it be possible to have 'communications relays' or something that will unlock various chat streams, including from the fleet? It seems to me that this would solve a problem that is aggravating a growing number of players whilst adding something very sought after to whatever rewards stream it went in (BW could really gain some kudos with crafters here). I think that this could be either a large hook item with a satellite dish or antenna (I'm thinking Balmorra AA gun size), or just a computer console for a medium hook. It would then be interactable so that when clicked on, the associated chat channel replaced the current channel.
  9. All of the previous streams are recorded on Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/swtor/profile/pastBroadcasts The past livestreams are the 3, 1 hour+ videos.
  10. I don't see why we couldn't have a hilt replica. Even if nobody's seen it, doesn't mean a lightsaber couldn't be made to a similar design. As for the blade, you can get a very similar effect by using a black cored crystal. You don't get quite the right the shape, but it looks fairly close.
  11. I agree. Lore items are intended to resemble the outfits worn by these characters. Being able to recolour them would invalidate the value of these items. If a set is bugged (ie Mira), then it must be up to BW to fix it, not the player base to (lets face it) improvise with the closest dye colours you can find. As for dying other parts of the armour, I don't see why it should be allowed. To my mind, if you want to look like Carth (for example), then Carth's armour is in the game. If you don't want to look like Carth, then don't wear his armour.
  12. No. The Cartel Bazaar is where the cartel vendors have moved to (they used to be in the crew skills area of the fleet) and where you can get contracts for the Bounty Contract Week event. Technically, you might need RotHC to get items that have a reputation requirement for the Citizens of Makeb, but you don't need it for the contracts or cartel market vendors.
  13. Hello and welcome back, 1) Since the server consolidations, there is very little choice of servers. All should be fairly well balanced within each 'type' (ie, all PvP servers should be about the same). If you plan on restarting however, it may just be easier to roll on a new server in which case, why not. You can check out detailed stats for each server here: http://www.torstatus.net/shards/us. 2) Population seems to have levelled out now that we are well into f2p. I normally see between 200 and 250 on the fleet, with up to 80 on each planet. I believe that instance size has recently been decreased so they don't look crowded, but there will be differences between servers. 3) I don't play many flashpoints so normally end up in the 'noob' category there as well (even if I do have 3 post 50 alts!) and don't see people quitting too often. It's never happened from not skipping conversations, although later bosses can prove frustrating for experienced players. Personally I'd suggest that, if you do find yourself struggling with combat, wait until you're slightly over level for a flashpoint before you play through it. The XP grant will be a little lower, but you'll go in that much more powerful. 4) Assuming you know about ROTHC and the game updates, not a lot. I'd look at the update pages for more details but I can't immediately think of anything that won't be there. 5) Yes. They have said that the class stories will be expanded upon, but I don't know when. The Cathar didn't appear for a VERY long time after they were announced, and the SSSP (Super Secret Space Project) is apparently 'progressing'. So yes, they will be continued, but probably not for a while. 6) Three words. It makes money. Since going free to play, the game's revenues have supposedly doubled. EA of all companies won't drop a game that is bringing in money, so as far as I can predict, it should stick around for a while. Hope this helps.
  14. Does this mean that you will be doing something at Celebration Europe or is it just gaming conventions? I know its about the same time you're scheduled to be in Cologne but was curious.
  15. It really depends what combat role you want to play. For ranged DPS, I'd recommend a gunslinger (sniper) but melee could be either a shadow (assassin) or sentinel (marauder). Sages (sorcerers) tend to be considered the best healers and guardians (juggernauts) tend to make the best tanks (especially at higher levels). For a first class I would suggest rolling either of the Jedi or Sith classes for sheer versatility when you choose an advanced class. If I had to say one, I'd go with the consular (or inquisitor) and spec as a shadow (or assassin) for tanking. You will always find a use for the stealth mode. Hope this helps.
