  1. There's a lot of details here, and I'm not going to pretend to know the answer. I do know that when I find myself against a team of 3 or more bombers, it's very frustrating. I initially thought a limitation on the total number of deployables would be a good solution, but I have no way of figuring out a fair way to limit them. Gunships are annoying too. The other day I kept dying to what I thought was one-shot, but I think there may have been two gunships working in tandem. There's a lot of good offensive strategies, and I just haven't figured out good ways to take them out. I do think these big ships should be more lumbering and less fast, even with afterburners on. I fly scout mostly because I like the speed and agility.
  2. I think selectable queues & x-server players would make PvP fun for me again. There are a couple of WZs that I dislike so much that I rarely queue at all (Huttball is one of them, sorry.) Even if you made it selectable for subscribers only, then sell unlocks for selectable warzones. I think that might fit in with current marketing strategy. Huttball leagues & spectating would be pretty cool. I would definitely watch matches.
  3. I bought a Nostromo about a year ago because my desk isn't wide enough to mouse next to the keyboard. I have the Razer Lycosa keyboard on the desktop, the Nostromo & Logitech mouse on the keyboard drawer. If I was going to buy one now I'd get the Orbweaver because it has 5 more buttons. I don't use macros to play, but I have a couple set for chat functions ("thanks" and "any time") I don't really like the Razer Synapse software, which their utility to store your button programs. It stores your programmed buttons in the cloud so that you can sign in anywhere and get your settings, but I have no need for that so I set it to offline mode and it seems to work fine. My Nostromo settings: unshifted / shifted / alt 1 = 1/6/F1 2 = 2/7/F2 3 = 3/8/F3 4 = 4/9/F4 5 = 5/0/F5 6 = next enemy / nearest 7 = Q/L 8 = W/X 9 = E 10 = F/F/Target's target 11 = next friend / nearest / sheath 12 = A/M 13 = S/I 14 = D Scroll wheel = hotbar select & press for run / walk modifier button = shift directional pad = Jump / chat macro 1 / chat macro 2 / ctrl 15 button = alt modifier You can set one of the buttons to advance through about 7 pages of different settings for the buttons. I can't remember how many pages because I don't use it much. With the Nostromo, I don't find a need for extra buttons on my mouse.
  4. I think the gunship should be big and slow. With the long-range killing ability, they shouldn't also be able to zip away when threatened. Give them some defenses, but make them slow to accelerate because of the increased mass. Getting one-shotted is not fun, but I can accept it if the sniper has other disadvantages.
  5. I posted with detailed suggestions here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=460600 It was closed 30 minutes after creation. The exit survey is severely lacking. Many of us really want this game to become excellent, which is why we post. I feel it's most useful to post personal opinion on the game, rather than opinions on other players. Live and let live.
  6. I've decided to leave SWTOR for now. I sent an email to customer support, but the response I got back asked me to post in this forum so the developers will see it. This in itself seems problematic. Is the organization such that emails do not flow from one department to another? Seems a bit like saying, "Sorry. Not my table." I did receive an exit survey on cancelling my account, but it didn't provide a place for general commentary. It did have spots for comments relating specifically to one issue that you choose to speak to, but I feel like I wasn't able to give all of my thoughts. Maybe all of my thoughts are not welcome, which I understand, but I would like to voice them anyway. I also understand that it's easier to parse the exit survey's numbered & selective ratings as opposed to a freeform commentary. So if this post doesn't garner attention, that's ok too. Maybe it will merely be cathartic for me alone. The main reason I'm leaving is simply that I got bored. I consider myself a casual player based not so much by how much time I put in, but by the lack of seriousness in which I take my gaming experience. I don't get upset if my character dies, or we fail as a group, or a group member seems less than prepared. I don't care about Nightmare mode or even Hard Mode. I initially rolled a gunslinger on the opposite coast to play with friends. When they left, I rolled a Trooper in my part of the country to get a better connection. I figured that eventually I'd be able to transfer my GS to my new main server, but that took so long that I've lost interest before transferring the toon. My trooper was fun for a while, but as I leveled into the upper 30s I got tired of the same battles over and over. I don't really like any of the trooper companions' personalities, and the fact that they all use the AIM stat as primary seems monotonous. Why wouldn't the melee tank use STR instead of AIM? I think making each companion more unique would add to the depth of play. Aric was a jerk to my character early in levels and that backstory stuck with me, even as I chose him for my main companion. Part of the monotony of trooper play seemed to be that most of the abilities are so similar, and the gunfire sounds are all the same. I don't really know if different weapons provide different sounds or not, but more bass would be very welcome in the effect. Which brings me to what I see as shortcomings in equipment. If weapons do have a different sound and "feel" and appearance, it would be very beneficial to try them out before purchasing. It's not standard MMO play, but I do think it's a good idea. Think of buying a weapon in real life: you're allowed to hold it and maybe fire off a few shots. Armor and mods also need help. While I appreciate being able to modify orange items, the implementation seems to have fallen short. The preview window should allow your character to turn & show the realtime position of your character while wearing the previewed item. Mods on the GTN are very hard to find. They don't sell for comfortable profit margins because people think it's easier to purchase mods with planet commendations. This hurts the crafters. Orange equipment also hurts crafters. Once you have an orange item, you don't need green or blue items any more -- just the mods. Also, I thought that the ability to make augments was implemented; I never came across an augment recipe on my armormech crafter. I like the idea of the class stories, but it became monotonous after a while. I got tired of the over-long voice explanations & conversations of some of the NPCs as well. Sometimes I just want to get to the point. There are a few options to do just that with some NPC conversations, but not enough. And honestly, the alien "voices" get so annoying after a while that I read the subtitles as quickly as I could so that I could spacebar out of the conversation. I liked the graphics very much. The character renders are great. I was disappointed that every building I came across had the same textures and basic design elements. I you pick up a building from Tython & plop it down on Tatooine it wouldn't look out of place at all. This may be by design, but some more variety would be nice. I did play WoW for years, and I left because I got tired of many things about the game, but I still miss the forested areas of that game. Something severely lacking in SWTOR. Most of the planets felt vacant and still. Even the planets with vegetation seemed too open. I never got any sense of closeness with the environment. I liked the city planets best: Nar Shadaa & Coruscant. PvP needs a lot of help. I wanted RvR objectives, and maybe there are some at 50, but I doubt it from reading the forums (my main is still only 42). I wanted open area quests like WAR had. RvR objective sieges. I've been through the PvP area on Tatooine many, many times and only seen one other player there--ever. I liked the idea of Huttball, but I hated it. I now understand why PvP football games will not succeed. My favorite WZ was Voidstar, but all of the warzones need to lose the opening cinematics & the flying to your spawn point was annoying. I think the biggest problem you will have developing good PvP is the lag that appears whenever more than a handful of players are on screen. I spent a bit of time in Orgrimmar (WoW) with three times more players than my Fleet ever had and never had the trouble with lag that I experienced over and over with this game. I don't think the PvP I was hoping for will be possible until whatever causes this problem is resolved. I never ran a Flashpoint in my time with this game (3-1/2 months). I would hang around General Chat in Fleet between warzones, but never came up with a group. When I did see chat looking for a Flashpoint I could run, I'd already out-leveled it. I ran a heroic with some other players, which was fun, but we wiped on the last boss repeatedly -- I never did finish that one. I think there should be more & better things to do in space. One of the driving attractions of Star Wars was the space battles. The current space missions are ok. I always figured that my companion was flying for the most part and that I had limited control to assist in threat avoidance (rocks n stuff). The current missions get pretty boring when you realize that higher levels are merely recycled from earlier gameplay with stronger mobs. Space exploration. Space battles. X-wing flying. Planet strafing. Deathstar-like runs. I like this: it appears to me that you can level your character by doing only the class quests. I think that's a good thing because I wouldn't want to repeat the side-quests too much with alts. Perhaps requiring a few side-quests per level would be better though because it seems that right now if you do a couple of side-quests you outlevel a planet pretty quickly. I know that improvements are coming, but I haven't played much at all in weeks. I think that I may have played a total of 2 hours in the last three weeks. Maybe it's depression. I've lost the will to game lol. Server populations need to improve. Server selection should be more informed. Free-trial-weekends are depressing. Items in real-world news regarding SWTOR intimate that development resources will be spent on other EA games. I enjoyed the game for a couple of months. For that, I thank you.
  7. Interesting take on the situation, but I think you're way off base. It would appear that you're suggesting players continue to pay a subscription fee for a game they're not enjoying. Why would I do that? We make suggestions and maybe some changes are made, but if a game isn't fun I see no reason to waste my time or money on it. The reason I've played several games over the years was to enjoy them for as long as they held my interest. It's not fickle to move on when you become bored. It's an example of the free market working as intended.
  8. I really like the idea. RvR adds another layer of gaming, which is always good. It's possible to also give faction-wide rewards based on PvE achievements by keeping track of flashpoints completed or bosses downed. Both systems would definitely benefit from some sort of balancing factor, whether buffed stats, extra NPCs or some other mechanism. I loved keep sieges in WAR. You didn't have to be grouped. All you had to do was watch the General Chat and descend on the castle to have fun -- didn't they also have hotspots on the map? That was cool too. The mechanism that WAR used to even faction imbalance worked well. I disagree that a third faction would help matters. I played PlanetSide for a long time, and rather than two low-pop factions ganging up on the larger one, usually the two bigger factions would crush the smallest one, then fight each other. Something else that I think might hurt this idea is the timeframe of SWTOR. I think we're supposed to be in the midst of a cold war, which doesn't bode well for RvR. I'm sure the writers could work something out, but I suspect the overarching storyline has already been decided in advance and wouldn't lend itself to RvR very well.
  9. my votes: Snap-to-grid removable portraits scaleable buffs in operations frame skin / color options fix the Novare Coast Objective bug more hotbars (which I understand is in the works - just reiterating) if you do allow user addon scripting, please still develop your own -- I don't like needing to download & update an external addon simply because the standard UI is deficient. I like the provided customize UI feature a lot.
  10. I think there's some good parts to the theory. I don't know the server structure in detail, but I assume separate servers are created to allow a maximum number of players to exist on one computer without negatively impacting performance for them. So why can't we have an instance of a planet that allows players from two different servers to exist simultaneously? It's similar to cross-server warzones. I don't think invisible numbers would solve a large problem of player concern regarding unique character names. To solve that particular problem you'd need to attach a server identification of some sort. This approach solves the problem of having only 10 players on Hoth, for example. It's Bioware's game, so whatever they do is their thing. I'm just talkin' here.
  11. That fight sounds like a simulated PvP fight against a coordinated team. I can see how it would be frustrating.
  12. It seems unfair to me that if I'm fighting a mob long enough for the medpack cooldown to run out that I'm still not allowed to use another. There are certainly other means to balance gameplay, but I think the 1x / fight was the easiest.
  13. /sign The new iteration of GTN search is counter-intuitive at best. The patch notes were confusing, not because of how it was worded but because of the convoluted functionality of the disabled search button. I thought GTN was broken, and I wasn't the only one. If there's no results from a search, just display "no results." I can't even remember what they were trying to fix, but I doubt it was as bad as the patched version.
  14. /sign simply not using a certain companion shouldn't be the only option since that class of character (ranged tank for example) may be what you need or desire.
  15. Seriously? Bobby Knight plays this game? That's kinda cool, but I figured with all his anger and stuff he'd be Sith for sure
