  1. Dude, I actually agree with you. I shouldn't be able to sub one month a year and play everything - but since I can, why on earth would I do anything else? Especially when everything this "expansion" has to offer can easily be seen, on multiple characters if you're a masochist, in under a month. That said, I don't think you've got the answer. If they charged me expansion money for every few chapters, it would only take me the first three chapters to realize it wasn't worth my money and just stop playing altogether. One of the major problems with this model is that I'm not invested in this story. At all. I mean, for $15 I'll see where it goes, but if they said "Screw you, you're paying for each chapter," I would just show myself out. If they want to keep this model - and I'm fine if they do - they need to give me value for each chapter, not hold their story hostage.
  2. And in both instances, she'll still show up at the same point in the story to save you at the opportune moment.
  3. Here is EVERY KOTFE "choice." NPC - We need to save the pound! Do you like puppies? Convo Wheel A - I love puppies! NPC Response A - Me too! Let's go save the pound! Convo Wheel B - [Flirt] Well, I can think of doggy things I like... NPC Response B - You're so bad! Let's go save the pound! Convo Wheel C- Let's murder them all! NPC Response C - How could you say that? Let's go save the pound!
  4. I'm not here to hate on the game. I'm not even sure I have high hopes for good changes. It just feels wrong to step away after five years without any kind of plea for the game that I once loved. I want the game to get better. Please know that I come from that stance. And while I enjoyed Ops and did them regularly, I wasn't the kind of person who didn't think this type of content delivery could work. I came here for Star Wars, and for the Old Republic era I loved so much. Here we go. My sub lapses on 8/13. I'm going to let it. KOTFE + all of the "rewards" cost $120 - twice what a normal box game would, and I just don't feel it was worth it. If this is what we can expect going forward, I will probably sub one month a year to take my main through the storyline when it's finished. I know a lot of people plan to do that. I'm worried that there's no reason to do anything but, and that SWTOR will never see the release of 6.0. BUT - I'll renew my sub tomorrow if you just give me a reason to! Reason to sub #1, and unfortunately, this is non-negotiable - communication. I'm sorry some bad men on the internet said mean things about the release of 3.0 and scared you away from talking about your product. Grow up. If I don't know what I can expect in the future, you can't expect me to stick around for it. Ben's letter rang out as completely hollow. IF you had come out and said "there will be absolutely no group content between 4.0 and 5.0" it would have angered some people, to be sure. They would have dropped subs. Guess what? They did that anyway! Only they did that after being strung along for a few months, and now they're much less likely to come back. My guild - which was large enough to earn the Galaxy Conqueror title at the first possible opportunity - is now down to four members. The ones I was in constant communication with have made it clear that they will never return for any reason. They know what to expect from WoW, and so WoW earned their loyalty. You MUST erase the ill will you've created, and the only way you can do that is with transparency. When you announce 5.0 - I should have a clear idea of what it includes for the foreseeable future, or I'm afraid I can't trust you with a subscription. That's important to a lot of people, and since you need a lot of people to revitalize this game, it seems like a no brainer. Reasons to sub #2 - option A - go back to the expansion pack model. If 4.0 had been this storyline, all at once, plus operations, daily areas, the new PvP stuff, and even a less "we only give a flying flip about new players"-y version of this event, you would be drowning in subs. This game would be thriving. It would be a renaissance. People would come back, happily paying a $60 xpac box fee plus a sub. Instead of a mass exodus on the 30th, you'd have people happily plugging away here. It's not too late. If you have this in store for 5.0, see reason to sub #1, and I'll go put my credit card information back into the sub box this instant. Reasons to sub #2 - option B - I was never against this model of content delivery. Even though it drove away almost everyone I played with, I would have stuck around and happily played solo if I had a reason to play. Here are some ways this could have happened with 4.0. *Choices that matter. I know there are deaths that happen here and there if you're mega-dark-side, but honestly, the rest of the game is so completely homogeneous that I can't replay it to see those choices. I think I managed to get my dark side toon to chapter XII before just completely giving up on seeing the story more than once. This is the first expansion that I haven't leveled all my toons to max level. What's more, the choices that do happen only matter for half a cutscene, and then you're right back on the rails again. You're condensing 8 classes into one - sometimes nonsensically so. When you condense them into a "live or die" personality trope, you haven't given me choices that matter. *Worlds to explore. Zakuul. The Infinite Empire. Of hallways. That you can't go back down once you've already seen them. I've played the storyline for almost every 1-50 class twice. Not only does it feel significantly more like my choices matter, but I'm free to get out and do and see things. The most recent toon I leveled, I decided to do and see everything. Every quest. Every heroic. Every exploration achievement. I even decided he would have a way with animals and gave him every type of animal mount. I made that character, and he was fresh and different from what I had done before. There was so much personalization that went into it. Then he became the Outlander, and all of his companions wore what they showed up in, he forgot his wife Nadia without a second thought, and went to go watch the Lana show. *Reasons to keep coming back. It's painfully obvious you were given the mandate "reuse as much old content as possible. GRIND GRIND GRIND!" Here's the real kicker though - I would have done it, if only you had given me a reason to. If I unlock Sana Rae as a companion once she reaches 20 influence, you can bet I would have it. If you could get a Dr. Oggurrobb mount by getting his influence to 20, every person playing the game would have it. Once you've bought enough gifts to supercharge one companion, who acts in all three roles and has exactly the same benefits and attacks as every other companion, there is simply no reason to do it again. *Rewards for coming back. Even if every companion was exactly the same, I'd probably still go through the effort of maxing their affection. The problem is, since it isn't legacy wide, that only counts on one toon. The only kind of person who is going to max influence with all companions is doing it for completion, and since I'm guessing the majority of your players aren't hard-core Korean MMO addicts, absolutely no one is going to do that on every toon they have. But - if you make it legacy wide, and maybe toss in a title or some other shiny for getting all of the companions of a certain type all the way to 50, and BOOM! You have a reason to grind. Even this event, which was the most ludicrous idea ever, could have been good if it rewarded me for coming back instead of starting over . There are plenty of things in that legendary level that I haven't done. If you didn't make it so I had to start over, I would have happily plugged away at filling in the gaps over the summer. If light and dark choices counted from current toons, I would have grinded heroics with choices so that I could get that cool Chiss Jedi companion. I would have kept going to get that legendary mount. Instead, I sat here, logging in less and less, until finally I realized I was paying $15 a month for the privilege of logging in to check for deals on the GTN every week or so. When people stop coming back, you stop getting paid. Reason to sub #3 - the reason I subbed in the first place - to live out my Star Wars fantasy. Every single person that came here did it for that reason. And at first, that was possible. People who are new to the game get to do that for the first time, and have no idea what we old fogies are griping about. But over time, you've slowly taken things away that are vital to keeping the fantasy alive. *Customization - awarding DvL packs for playing content was actually a step in the right direction, but it was ten steps backwards in implementation, and after being stripped of the ability to customize half our companions. Stronghold customization is cool, but since the chair effects are laughably bad, there's no reason to do anything in them. *Things to do - This is mostly covered by previous points, but if all I have is skytroopers to fight once a month, that'd be like only being able to watch Episode I for the rest of my life. After a while, I'd just stop watching Star Wars. The Eternal Championship was actually a great step forward here, but the rewards were lackluster, and the competition went into controversy so soon out of the gate, it seems everyone has all but forgotten about it. *A Star Wars story that I control. Not only are there full minutes of cutscenes where your character doesn't even appear, let alone speak, it just feels like watching a movie. What's worse, the movie isn't even all that interesting, and it really doesn't feel like Star Wars to me. This could easily take place in any sci-fi video game. It might have actually made more sense in the Mass Effect universe, because my trooper building a new cannon at the forge made me laugh out loud when I'm sure I wasn't supposed to. Well, that's me. It's been a fun ride, but I'm off to spend my money on companies who earn it. I loved the game, and would happily come back if they could just show me that anyone in Austin has any passion for their product. Give me a reason to come back, and I will! Sadly, I fear I'll log in once more a year from now, and then bid farewell to this game with the rest of you.
  5. Because they aren't, but they know that the day they actually say it is the day everyone still holding onto the faintest glimmer of hope unsubs. They'll probably unsub anyway, but every day they can prevent that is a win - which is why you'll NEVER hear them say no new ops, and you'll also never hear that any new ops are being specifically created.
  6. Because BW's track record shows they don't release things with game-breaking bugs, and that things that are delayed are then perfect.
  7. Oh come on, we got the typical BioWare "Soon." Anything else would have been an indicator that James Ohlen was being held against his will.
  8. All the stream today was make me realize how long it's been since I've logged in. Haven't even played the latest chapter yet, and don't really see the need to. If I don't log in by the end of next week, I think this may be how my sub ends - not with a bang but a whimper.
  9. No, there's a special on ABC next weekend with a "Rogue One First Look!" - I'm guessing that's where it'll release to the general populace.
  10. I'm pretty sure it's the personification of the game's death. Notice Senya looks grossly outmatched.
  11. Look at the differences between when James Ohlen spoke and Amy Henning. The crowd cheered the loudest at mention of KotOR, but it just seemed like there was zero applause for anything he had to show. Am I projecting, or do you agree?
  12. Everything. Literally everything can drop out of one. They're like GCCs! (Except they have GCCs in them - it's chance cubeception!)
  13. I've seen it go in the tens of millions. Heck, I've sold just the top for five million.
  14. That's one way of putting it. Thank you, people I've never met before!
