  1. Some of us are bored at work. Your thread is no different than the other threads on this matter. So don't take the views of this thread as verification that your views are correct. Any thread started on this topic gets a lot of attention.
  2. As a min/maxed "OP" class (Assault VG), I can easily point out the guys in WZs that start posts like this. They are the players that rush me like superman. The funny part of this scenerio is when they are sent/maur or PT/VGs. You get so used to face pwning lowbes in pre 50, and you think its going to be the same post 50. Whether you want to believe it or not, pre 50 is not even either. Pre 50 is actually less even than post 50. Not only does 40+ player have a gear advantage (if they try), they also have an ability advantage as well. You don't see that post 50. I think that the biggest problem is that many of these guys aren't truely into pvp. Most of the guys that I know don't mind a week or so of grinding for the rewards you reap afterwards. Speaking of grinding, the biggest grind I see is reaching 50 on a toon, lol. As far as the OP and his question (50 Pvp, no skill only gear?), this question isn't specific enough to give a good answer. However, I'll do my best . Skill always matters in games whether you have gear or not. The reality is that any player can eventually get the gear. The skilled player will get the gear much sooner and complain less because of it. This is the result of more comms from the win column. Skilled players also attracts other skilled players. As a result, you will be able to get into a decent pvp guild to run WZs with you. MMOs are about playing a game with friends. Having a 4 man team in WZs make a world of difference. Huttball can be easily won with a strat and a group of 4. What you also need to realize is that your team my have a couple of undergeared players, but there is a good chance that the other team has them too. It usually evens out. Again, this is only a grind if you make it one. To sum up my post, the answer to your question is no. It isn't only gear. I've tried to keep this post clean of flames so you should be on the defensive about anything. The gear curve isn't that steep between BM and WH. You just have to put forth a little effort to get over it. It isn't that big of a deal. If I can do it, so can you.
  3. I screwed up my quote, but I'm referring to the post of the taugrim link I think everyone should watch this link. He does offer up some good ideas, However, the only one that really holds any water for me is the spellbook idea. However, I'm not sure how they are going to make something like this effective at level 50. Its basically what happens pre 50. With that being said, Dark Age of Camelot offers extra abillities through gaining realm points. This comes as you gain a pvp level similar to our valor. I didn't play warhammer very long, but since mythic did both, they are probably the same. I wouldn't object to something like this. Even with this type of system, you still have to play a lot or "grind". I'm sure people will still complain about that. What it boils down to for me is that I need something to work for. I need something that I can see a difference in the play of my character. At this point, I really don't care what they do with the game. I'm barely hanging on. I'm full aug WH and there isn't much for me to work for. I'm sure undergeared people see the geared guys as people just running around wrecking people and having fun, but once you get the gear there isn't much more to do. I'm bored. I'm not a pve guy so i don't have it in me to level a new toon. My first toon went through the bag system and this guy went through the new system. It was rough for the first week or so until I got BM gear, but it got much better. Going back to the clip, I used to play against taugrim on a pvp server. He is an average kinda guy with a lot of great ideas about classes and gameplay. I've been following his blogs since rift and I usually roll some similar classes that he does. His ideas for classes are usually very busy and offer a lot of versitility that always makes any class fun. With this game, he made a hybrid spec for the PT/VG that I really enjoyed. Although I'm assault now, I would have much rather stayed with his hybrid tank spec because the fun factor was there. in other words, I always seem to take what he says and give it some thought. In this case, I agree with it partially but not 100%.
  4. I totally agree with Basileus on this. I run pretty much the same spec he does in min/maxed (pretty much, I'm using the reflex armoring 25s rather than 26s in the belt and bracer) WH gear. Although his HIBs are going to be a bit higher than most, you can still crit for over 5k with just the modded WH. Running this build, my aim is around 1940, ranged crit is around 32.5-33.0, tech crit is around 37-38 and my power is 600. I'm almost always top damage. One thing else to note about this build is that you get Burnout. I've ran a non-ap with and without this. I can tell a difference between the two. Although you want to concentrate on burning targets down, you should also drop a random dot in there from time to time. A build like this offers stronger dots so they actually can make a difference in a fight. I just took the time to watch a bit of Bisileus' vids and it seems as though he does the same thing. To sum it up, run AP if you don't have BM+, then you can play around with non-AP builds. In my opinion, you need some gear to support a build like this and still have the burst capabilities.
  5. Why are you so clueless to think that there shouldn't be progression in PVP as well. Some of us have invested just as much time pvping as some of the raid guilds invest in raids. Personally, I don't raid at all. All I do is pvp and run dailies when i need cash. I would rather play a game rather than watch TV in the evenings. Maybe you should do the same if you really want to be at the top of the foodchain in PVP. I don't have the time to raid/PVP and be effective at both, so I choose to pvp. If you read my post, you will see that I don't mind if they hand out battlemaster gear. The idea of not having a gear gap in pvp makes no sense to me at all. Believe it or not, some of us that are against some of these ideas are fairly good guys. I'm very accomodating to undergeared players on my team. I have no issues with my team mates running in recruit gear. After all, recruit gear is still much better than gear I had when I hit 50. The gap between the gear then is much greater than it is now.
  6. I'm curious, did we still get all these posts before bioware starting handing out recruit gear? I grinded for my WH gear so I feel as though anyone can do it. The focus should be on the battlemaster gear. People in augmented battlemaster gear should be able to compete in regular WZs. I see it in almost every WZ that I run. At this point, I wouldn't be against BW handing out battlemaster gear instead of recruit. However, people would still whine about not having the best pvp gear in the game. Getting new gear has been the only thing holding me in this game. Now that I'm pretty much done with my pvp gear, I really don't see much of a reason to play. MMOs are and/or should be about progression. Handing out the best gear in the game or making all the gear the same changes that aspect. Do people complain about not being able to run OPs because they have the gear to do so? If they make changes to the pvp gear, why not hand out the best pve gear as well? I really don't care that much either way at this point, but I'm just throwing some things out there. The first WZ I ran yesterday, some recruit geared player says, "here goes another loss". That rubbed me the wrong way so I asked him what was his problem. He said that he was tired of "grinding" warzones against better geared players. I'm thinking that if he's still in recruit gear, he's hardly experienced a grind. Like other have said, when you ding 50, you should have the max ranked/warzone comms. Although I was thinking all of this, my reply to him was to hang in there and do what he can. I told him that it was ok and that most of us have been there. At this point, he started to belittle me because I play an assault vanguard. I then listen to him continue to complain until I finally ignored him. Before you guys flame me for playing a class that many consider to be OP, let me say that I haven't always been assault. I previously ran a tank hybrid until they nerfed the damage. As many of you probably realize, going full tank isn't the best Idea for pvp so I went straight dps. At this point, I had to grind for another full set of WH gear. Attitudes like this guy could effect some of the geared player's view of recruit geared players. I was really cool with this guy and got griefed because of it. We ended up winning the WZ, and all as happy. I gave the undergeared guy my MVP vote because I felt as though he probably needed it. Basically, what you guys should learn from this story is to be cool with people that are cool with you. If you don't have at least battle master gear, stick with a guy that is geared to the teeth. He will take most of the aggro and you can help him kill peeps. Before long, you will be in full BM.
  7. I've been thinking about finding a group to run some HMs with. With that being said, I'm an assault VG in Augmented WH (min/maxed to an extent). What would be the limitations with this as far as pve is concerned?
  8. People are quitting the game because it lacks new content. If you take out gear progression, you will see that number drop off even more. What this boils down to is people want instant satisfaction. You want to have the best right now. I hear many people saying that we want to play many classes according to my mood etc.,. While you guys are leveling up 4+ toons, many of us only have 1 toon that we play. I've got some alts for pre-50 but I've got one toon that I play on a regular basis. Trust me, that guy is geared to the teeth. With that being said, I chose to take one toon and develope his gear/reputation. It all boils down to what MMOs have been and what they should be. Almost all MMOs that I have played include a gear progression element. It gives players something to do while they are waiting for more content. As far as guild wars 2 is concerned, it hasn't released yet. Even when it does, it will not be a good comparison on this. For instance, I'm thinking about picking it up just because its F2P. Does that mean that I prefer that type of pvp? Not really, it just means that I see an entertainment value in a F2P game. I'll surely have a subscription to another MMO as well.
  9. Now it is a place that you go and run some daily quests for extra cash. It was buggy at release. As a result, many people got geared for pvp very quickly. They made a few changes which pretty much solved that problem. For me, illum became something to do other than run warzones. However, the lag was horrific. With that being said, BW decided to do away with the daily and weekly pvp quests rather than fix the lag. That is the way I percieved it. Others may have differing ideas so please chime in.
  10. I don't play a sage; however, I've played against some really good ones. With that being said, I think that either gear or ability has something to do with it. Both can be improved if you play more WZs. Keep your head up.
  11. I'm not denying that this guy got burned down rather quickly; however, that 1.5 seconds is a little unbelievable. The real burst of PT/VG comes from TD/AP being coupled and timed with RS/HIB. Its all about how you time the abilities. Other classes has similar damage but they can't timie them so that they go off at the same time. The powertechs has the same range on those two abilities that the sniper has on his abilities. He claims that he was in range to get a shot off. If I were the powertechs, I would be spamming my TD as he ran in. Once my TD left my toon, I would follow up with a RS. Its highly unlikely that the OP had time to get into cover and get all his cool downs off before the RS got off. If both PTs did this, of course the guy was dead. Consider this and the fact that the PTs may have outgeared him by a whole gear set, of course this was going to happen. I am an assault VG. I went assault after stockstrike took the hit. I had to regear my toon in order to do this. I also consider myself a fairly decent player. With that being said, a good sniper with equal gear has a really good chance of taking me down 1v1. I can give you names of snipers on my server that can make this happen. I don't care what people say. VGs and PTs can be kited. Most people just don't have the skill to make it happen. If one pulls yu in, he burns his only gap closer. If you get pulled in, stun his ***. When he uses his CC breaker, he will probably stun you. After this, all you do is use your cc breaker and stun him again. If you stay 10m from him, you have him kited. This is assuming you have dots or can attack at range of courseEveryone talks about players stacking groups with PTs/VGs. On my server, we see ranked groups stacking "bombing" classes. However, you never hear of players complaining about them. Not only do these guys take out one player, but they also seriously **** up other toons around said player. Basically, there are several classes out there that does serous damage.
  12. Let me say that I switched to assault after the nerf/adjustments made to stockstrike. I enjoyed the shield/hybrid (Ironfist) much more. 1. Other players usually see assault VGs as being overpowered due to the high burst dps. However, the main burst is the combination of timing your plastique with HIB. In my opinion, the only players that think we are over powered don't really know how to deal with us so they scream nerf. They do this with most every class. 2. I think the assault spec is what it should be. It is on par with other dps classes and it is squishy.
  13. DAOC was the best pvp I've ever experienced. When there was a call to arms, everyone came out and defended the realms. This is the only game that I really miss. My first game was EQ at release. I can't say that I played UO so I really can't comment on that. Planetside was a really fun game and I'm looking forward to Planetside 2. However, I can't put it in the same catagory as these other MMOs.
  14. I find that last statement hard to believe. If you get three shotted by any class, you lack gear/stats. If you lack gear/stats, you aren't going to be three shotting anyone.
