What's the difference between gathering and missions? Do you get different types of resources to sell from Underworld Trading/Diplomacy etc than you do from Bio/Scavanging...?

I am also interested in this. Profitable crew skills to have post nerf, without debate about the nerf. I know each server has it's own supply and demand, but what is generally a profitable way to go?
