Level 55 entry date | 04.03.2013, 09:16 AM
I was going to shoot in and answer _DarkTemplar_'s question but you folks went ahead and did that already. I am going to just quote bbare on this one as they explained it quite nicely

Good work everyone, carry on!

There are two "updates" that are associated with 2.0

1. The game update

2. The expansion pack.

The game update will include the new skills, skill trees, stat formulas, crafting tier, etc...

The expansion pack includes the additional 5 levels and access to Makeb. By De Facto, it will also include the new operations, HM FP's, and dailies, because those require a higher level.

If you pre-ordered on time, you will have access to both the game update and the expansion pack on the 9th. If you pre-ordered "late" you will have access to the game update on the 9th, but you won't have access to the expansion till the 14th. If you aren't even purchasing the expansion, you will have access to the game update on the 9th, but not the expansion pack until you buy it.

Dev Clarification on "Class Mission" XP Bonus' in RotHC | 04.03.2013, 09:05 AM
As some have already alluded to in the thread, class mission bonus experience will have no effect on Makeb. Technically speaking, the missions you will be going through in Rise of the Hutt Cartel are planetary arcs, etc. and are not classified as class missions.

Thanks!

Display names with numbers not working - IMPORTANT ISSUE PLEASE ANSWER | 04.03.2013, 09:05 AM
Hi there Nimtwo,

We are aware of this issue. Our system has not allowed name creation to include numerical values for quite a long time, and we have compiled a list of affected accounts, are are working to ensure that each one is resolved as soon as possible.

I thought I'd pop into this older thread and request people post on the 'new' thread.

I'd also recommend reading through the posts I made in the second iteration of the 'upcoming information' thread.

Second iteration I recommend reading through as it has 'moar things' explained:

Current thread we want new questions to go into:

For all those posting about the game crash, it looks like I need to be a bit clearer on 'authentication' vs Launcher and Game crashes:

If you get to the point where you can click 'Play' in the Launcher, you are past 'logging in' and have moved into loading the game client. The changes we made to authentication (Display Name only, OTP, Self Service) have nothing to do with those game crashes.

If you can't get to the point where you can type in your authentication credentials and click the Login button, then you have an issue with the Launcher itself. The changes we made to authentication were back-end changes, and while other pieces were also modified on the 2nd, those weren't to do with the Display Name, OTP and Self Service features.

There are other threads (mainly in the Customer Service forum area) about those issues if you have them, and please move questions about the game client issue over there - I won't respond to them as I'm not involved. I do wish I could help, but my expertise is elsewhere.

I'm also only answering new questions about authentication that haven't already been answered in this or previous threads. Those threads are:

Actually that wasn't me specifically - I think that may be the case, and I hope so, as I too collect the pets. I'm not involved in that side of things though, so don't know for sure.

It seems that people without security keys and with ISPs that rotate dynamic IPs like crazy are the most affected by this problem.
-
I am assuming that the One Time Password occurs only when the launcher does not recognize your current IP. This creates problem with Dynamic IPs, as mentioned above. If I am mistaken, please discount the suggestion.
-
Given the apparent problems this otherwise great security upgrade caused, are there any plans to maybe make the check for MAC address instead of IP address? If I understand the system correctly, it would solve the problem of launcher not recognizing the current machine, and using One-Time Password would add the current machine to a "verified" list.
The change in IP addresses by certain ISP's is a great inconvenience for those that use those ISP's. We totally understand that. The problem we face is that we have to take into account a lot more than just changing IP addresses, and have to set the level of security around 'all the players'. This means that some (in this case people that use changing IP ISP's) are going to be inconvenienced more than others. We also have to consider what attacks can be run against the system, and ignoring IP and changing to MAC address instead would actually open up quite a few attack vectors which you don't want us to allow. In reality we pay attention to a lot more than just the IP address, but that's a different conversation which I won't go into detail on 'for security reasons'.

Authentication is one of the most complex systems we have as we try to balance security with user inconvenience. In the end to have adequate security, some inconvenience is required. Believe me, if we could trust everybody to stick to their own account and just have people log in with an auto-saved username, we would. Reality is that there are a few 'bad' people out there that mean we have to treat authentication seriously. And we do.

To alleviate the problem we do have two options on our side:
For subscribers, there is the option to use the Mobile Security Key (and ex-subscribers can continue to use it after they stop subscribing up until they remove the Security Key from their account). This will mean you do not get an email every time your IP changes, and instead have to type in the Mobile Security Key Code.
For all players, there is the option to buy the Physical Security Key to achieve the same thing. Yes, I totally understand the Physical Security Key is currently out of stock in Europe, and we are working diligently with the European Origin Store staff to get that restocked ASAP. I have a tentative date for sometime in the next few weeks, but I'm not going to say exactly when until they confirm that date to the point where I feel comfortable posting it. I do not want to give false hope there!

As some folks have indicated in the thread we did recently post more specifics on exactly what this will look like when it goes live. Here are links to three of Amber's posts on the topic from yesterday:
Hope that helps!

The link to Origin hasn't changed at all - there is a promotion happening across some other EA games that you must have hit the criteria for, which meant that you have been sent the pet. I'm jealous, I don't have the pet myself!

Perfect 16man nightmare kephess video | 04.02.2013, 12:05 PM
Really cool video(s) guys, I love watching Ops runs! Really good of you to provide it from different perspectives as well. This was a nice clean run for sure (at least in my humble opinion)!

Kephess is still one of my favorite Ops bosses in the game, I love this fight. Keep up the good work.

That is correct. You will no longer need Recruit gear because of the way Bolster now works. The 'Advanced Gear' missions have been removed, because the item game at 50-55 has changed significantly. Flashpoints at 50+ now drop significantly better equipment than before, and gearing up at 55 is a whole new ballgame.

Personal Answer: I called Torian "Turian" pretty much the entire time I was leveling my Powertech.

The answer to your question is that these colors will now come from Reverse Engineering! The patch note reads:

Artifice now allows players to Reverse Engineer the following Advanced Indestructible, Advanced Hawkeye, and Advanced Eviscerating color crystals:
  • Black-Blue
  • Black-Red
  • Cyan
  • Purple

In addition to fixing the memory leak and updating our website and launcher with new security features, today's maintenance had a lot of back end preparation for Game Update 2.0 and Rise of the Hutt Cartel. Luckily, we were able to complete everything and get the servers up an hour earlier than anticipated; we appreciate your patience.

Sorry for any confusion or frustration caused by the messaging! We'll be sure it's fixed for future maintenance.

Because of Daylight Saving's Time last weekend, we'd changed the time zone to be congruent the current UK time. However, we'll be posting our English maintenance times in US Pacific time (currently PDT) and GMT from now on to use a standard that most people in the world are used to converting from. The French and German times will remain in Central European Time (currently CEST).

Comms and 2.0 | 04.01.2013, 02:24 PM
Hi again!

It was pointed out that the conversions I gave don't list the Tionese Crystal:Planetary Commendation ratio, which is 2:1. We'll get the Patch Notes updated with this info as well.

Quote: Originally Posted by Burtlebe View Post

In Game Update 2.0, Warzone Commendations will not change at all from their current functionality. There will not be a weekly limit and the current cap will remain at their current levels.

Quote: Originally Posted by Burtlebe View Post

I double checked with the developers on this one: All gear that can be purchased with Classic Commendations will be level 50, so you'll be able to purchase those pieces at level 50. As for gear purchased with Planetary Commendations, the Makeb gear is currently level 52, but you'll be able to use other Planetary vendors to purchase gear below level 52. On a side but related note: Level 55 PvP Gear will not be able to be purchased until level 55.

Thanks
Hi telosweb,

This is a great question! The Patch Notes will include the following weekly limits for each Commendation type, which will reset at the same time as the weekly Operations lock out reset schedule. Please note that these have been updated and are not the same numbers that were on the PTS:
  • Planetary Commendations - Unlimited Weekly; 50 Maximum
  • Classic Commendations - 200 Weekly; 400 Maximum
  • Basic Commendations - 300 Weekly; 600 Maximum
  • Elite Commendations - 200 Weekly; 400 Maximum
  • Ultimate Commendations - 150 Weekly; 300 Maximum

Additionally, with Game Update 2.0 there will be a one-time "overflow" limit in place that will allow players to go above the maximum. Planetary Commendations will have an overflow limit of 100, and Classic Commendations will have an overflow limit of 800. Basic, Elite, and Ultimate Commendations do not have overflow limits. The overflow limits are not in addition to the maximums amounts above; they're the total number of Commendations of that type that players will be able to hold after Game Update 2.0. Anything converted above the overflow limit will be lost. Players who have used the overflow limit and have more than the maximum number of Commendations will not be able to gain new Commendations until they fall below the maximum amounts.

Question of the Day - 4/1/2013 | 04.01.2013, 12:56 PM
Happy Monday! Today's Question of the Day is:

If you could name your weapon, what would you name it and why?

I say what better name for an adorably pink Lightsaber than "Pinky"?!

What about you?
