Can we get an explanation of "Sensor Focus"? | 01.15.2014, 01:44 PM
So I saw this thread and wanted to see if I could find out for you. I spoke with Jason Attard, one of the senior game designers, and he had this to say:

Galactic Starfighter ships have a sensor radius around the ship and a sensor cone in front of the ship. Increasing your focused sensor range increases the length of the cone, while increasing your sensor radius increases the size of the sphere around your ship. Things that refer to "sensor range" generally modify both the cone and the radius.

Any hostile ships in your sensor cone or sensor radius will show up in your mini map and HUD. You can also see hostile ships that your allies can sense if your communication radius and the communication radius of your ally overlap.

As someone who routinely crashes into things (due to batteries dying, being distracted or, more frequently, bad piloting), I have learned that X on the keyboard will cut your engines and save you from dying horribly.

Hey all,

We have a fix in place for this issue, and we're going to apply that during next Tuesday's maintenance. Thanks to everyone who provided information, as it did help us narrow down the problem.

If anyone is still seeing inconsistencies after the maintenance, let me know and I will look into it.

Unfortunately, Addalar Hyland was rushed away before we could ask any further questions. We will not give up so easily though. We should have more details later today.

I wanted to let you know that I am actively working with Bruce to get you guys a "roadmap" style post. No info on when it will happen yet, but I will give you any updates as I have them. I know you are all eager to hear about what you can expect in 2014. It will be an exciting year and I can't wait for you guys to hear about it!

To your second point Projawa, that isn't exactly correct. Certainly there are designs and systems that can take a while to design and implement, but we definitely have fresh and new designs coming into the game all the time! An example would be the "Tactical" flashpoint design you can see in 2.6. There are always new ideas and designs that we are moving towards.

As promised, I pulled a few questions from this discussion and took them to the Combat team for some answers!

I have also collected your reports of certain PvE items becoming more viable in PvP than PvP gear when it comes to stats after bolster. The Combat team is actively looking into this, and I will update you with information as I get it.

Why does the Bolster system punish the mixing of PvE and PvP mods on the same item instead of applying normal bolster bonuses to the PvE portions of that item?

We specifically wanted to greatly discourage the attempt to mix and match PvE and PvP mods for the best PvP gear. This extra step of no extra expertise if you have any on an item is just a reinforcement of that idea.

Many players claim that bolster is calculated while entering a match, and to gain an unfair advantage you can unequip crystals/augments and re-equip them after loading in. Is this true, or is the bolster calculation dynamic?

Bolster is calculated dynamically. Any time a mod or item slot changes, bolster refigures the stats from that item.

The post mentions an “item rating.” Is this an internal abstraction, or does this correspond to the actual item level seen in the item/mod’s description?

The item rating this refers to is the item rating that can be seen in the item’s description.

Does this only apply to End + Main Stats, or does it apply to secondary/tertiary stats as well?

Any stat that an item could give also gets bolstered, so this would apply to main stats, endurance, and all of the various ratings. We also boost up raw armor values, weapon damage values, and the force/tech power that you get from your weapons.

Are there any other factors besides class/advanced class/spec that factor into the calculation (e.g. skills taken)?

Technically, the only factor that matters is how many points you’ve spent into each of your three trees. It is just that those trees are defined by your advanced class and class. We don’t do any deeper dives into what exact skills you’ve taken.

  • Character Name
  • Server
  • Date when you last participated in a Warzone
  • When you look at your character on the leaderboard, what do you see as the last date it was updated?

Are you referring to the arms deals? That is just a guess from our top analysts, but nothing is certain at this point in time.
